Chapter 347:The Church Of Light
Ruthiana being taken over by Arcadia made Ethan restless, and he could not stop wondering what lay ahead.
And he was not the only one.
Many others carried the same uneasy thoughts, their hearts filled with quiet anxiety about the future.
Ethan did not take this lightly. He called Ray over and spoke in a low voice.
“Take Claira away,” he said seriously. “Prepare for emergencies.”
Ray stiffened. “You think something might happen?”
“I don’t know,” Ethan replied honestly. “But I won’t gamble on her safety. We don’t know if the people from Arcadia will be friendly.”
Ray nodded without hesitation and quickly left to carry out the order.
Meanwhile, Ethan began to plan his next steps. He still did not fully understand the strength dynamics of the world at large. The battle had shown him just how small his knowledge truly was.
He even questioned Rathlos about it.
From him, Ethan learned that above the Emperor rank were Legendary Knights, and beyond them were Mythic Knights. That alone made Ethan’s heart feel heavy.
Those were the limits of Rathlos’s knowledge. Anything beyond that belonged to legends and rumors. Rathlos had never come into contact with such beings.
According to wyvern standards, Rathlos explained, he was still extremely young. If measured by wyvern age, Rathlos had only just stepped out of his teenage years. By human standards, that placed him at around twenty-five.
He was quite young.
Yet during those days, Ethan chose not to overthink everything. He focused on stabilizing his realm, enjoying the gains in strength, and letting his body and soul settle.
Ten days passed quietly.
On the tenth day, Ethan was sitting cross-legged, meditating, when a loud cry suddenly tore through the plains.
WHOOSH!
A powerful wave of pressure erupted outward.
Ethan’s eyes snapped open as a massive figure descended from the sky and landed beside him.
Rathlos stood there, his expression solemn.
“They are here,” he said.
Ethan swallowed hard and slowly stood up.
Even from several kilometers away, he could feel it. A deep, bone-wrenching pressure pressed down on the land, heavy enough to make his breathing slow.
He walked forward, eyes narrowing.
In the distance, a massive force was approaching.
An entourage.
Rows upon rows of figures advanced in perfect order, their presence overwhelming. Even from afar, Ethan’s heart sank.
The weakest among them… was at King Tier.
“What kind of force is this?” Ethan muttered under his breath.
Then Rathlos spoke beside him.
“They are from the Church.”
Ethan froze. “Church?”
“Yes,” Rathlos replied. “They are not royal knights. They are Paladins of the Goddess of Light.”
Ethan exhaled slowly.
“Let’s go,” he said.
……
The entourage soon arrived at the ruins of the city.
Holy light shimmered around them like a veil. The paladins walked in formation, each clad in silver-white armor engraved with sacred runes. Their presence radiated discipline, faith, and quiet power.
The holy aura flowed around them in waves.
From the central carriage, a familiar figure stepped down.
It was Sera.
Behind her, another figure emerged.
She wore a pure white dress, simple yet elegant, and a soft glowing robe was wrapped around her eyes, hiding them completely. In her hand was a slender staff engraved with holy symbols.
Walking beside her was an old man with wrinkled skin and messy bluish hair. His posture was relaxed, almost lazy, as if he were on a casual stroll rather than entering a ruined battlefield.
Albert stepped forward with a polite smile.
“Welcome, sister,” he said.
Sera nodded and gestured behind her.
“This is the Saintess of the Church of Light,” she announced. “And these are the Paladins who came with her.”
At once, everyone straightened.
Nobles, guards, and knights stepped forward and bowed respectfully.
“Greetings to the Saintess.”
“Greetings to the Church of Light.”
The Saintess raised her hand gently.
“It’s fine,” she said softly. “There is no need for such formalities.”
Her voice was calm and soothing.
She walked forward, stopping before the towering pillars of light.
Everyone held their breath.
Some wondered if she was blind.
Others wondered if she could truly see something they could not.
Suddenly, a small gasp escaped her lips.
“Marvelous,” she said, her voice filled with awe.”Who did this?”
“Even after standing for nearly two months, the power within these pillars has not dimmed at all.”
She turned slightly.
“Grandpa Moreno,” she asked. “What do you think?”
The old man scratched his chin and nodded.
“It’s great,” he said casually. “Didn’t expect to see something like this in such a desolate place.”
He glanced around lazily.
“So,” he asked bluntly, “who did it?”
The crowd instinctively parted.
A handsome young man stepped forward.
White hair with blue eyes.
With calm steps,Ethan walked out.
A few people gasped quietly at the sight of him.
But Moreno’s expression changed instantly.
His eyes gleamed.
SWOOSH!
In a blink, Moreno vanished.
Ethan barely had time to react before the old man appeared right in front of him.
“What the—!” Ethan froze.
His instincts screamed danger as Moreno raised his hand.
Ethan prepared to defend.
But instead of a strike, he felt two light taps on his shoulder.
“Tap! Tap!”
“Hahahahaha!” Moreno burst out laughing.
“What a good lad!” he exclaimed loudly. “I like you already!”
He leaned closer and whispered conspiratorially.
“By the way, what’s your secret for looking this good? Give this old man some tips.”
“GRANDPAAAA!”
An angry shout rang out.
The Saintess stomped forward.
“Please don’t ruin the Church’s reputation,” she said sharply.
She then bowed politely to Ethan.
“I apologize on his behalf,” she said. “He has a few loose screws.”
“What!” Moreno protested.
She ignored him.
“We will discuss matters after this,” she continued calmly.
Then she turned her attention back to the pillars.
“Seeing these pillars,” she said softly, “I almost forgot what lies behind them.”
The atmosphere grew serious once more.
Everyone’s expressions fell flat as they watched the people from the Church of Light move about. Many could not help but think the same thing.
Why do these people feel a bit insane?
Moreno completely ignored the strange looks and suddenly shouted.
“Knights, surround the place!”
