Chapter 353: Undead Unrest
Once home, Ethan returned to his full duties as a husband.
Work, training, and showering his women with blessings filled his days.
It was the same routine again and again.
Boring, yet fulfilling.
Time passed quietly.
Soon, several of his wives became pregnant, leaving only Sophia and Diana yet with child. The manor grew livelier each day, filled with laughter, arguments, and the constant movement of servants and guards.
As for the transfer of land, Ethan did not know what exact changes would take place. He only knew that things were moving. Not long after, an envelope arrived bearing the royal seal.
The contents were simple.
The Blank family was free to extend their territory for now, but they were requested not to overextend beyond the western part.
This was more than enough for Ethan.
There was still a vast stretch of land between the current borders and the western limit. Even so, something about the message left him uneasy, though he could not pinpoint why.
Now, Ethan was free to act.
His first order was to form a mage squad tasked with surveying the land and searching for minerals. While the search teams moved out, several roads were constructed to improve connectivity.
He also planned to establish a few more towns.
At the same time, road construction aimed at improving transportation efficiency was launched immediately. According to the current progress, the main roads between several cities and towns could be completed in about half a year.
Once finished, the circulation of goods would greatly improve.
The development speed of the Blank territory would take another step forward.
Everything seemed to be going well.
However, Ethan did not get to enjoy this peace for long.
That night, he received bad news.
There was a problem in one of the newly established cities.
That evening, a large amount of gray-black mist suddenly appeared deep within the forest near the city. From that mist, thousands of undead monsters emerged and attacked the workers at a logging factory.
Many were killed.
Now, the city was surrounded by a massive army of undead.
“What?” Ethan asked, his voice sharp.
“Where did so many undead come from?”
Upon hearing the report, he could not believe it.
The forest near the city was not an area rich in negative energy. It should have been impossible for so many undead to form there naturally.
Something was clearly wrong.
“There must be something fishy about this,” Ethan muttered, clenching his fist.
A cold thought crossed his mind.
“Could it be the work of abyssal mages?”
His heart skipped a beat.
If that was true, then the situation was far more serious than it appeared.
To control such a large number of undead, there had to be a lich behind it.
If that lich was not eliminated quickly, and if it was allowed to rampage and conquer the city, a full-scale undead disaster would erupt within his territory.
That was something Ethan could not allow.
Fortunately, this time he had sufficient forces.
Without hesitation, he gave his orders.
“Send Hall and Joel,” Ethan said firmly. “They will take the Order of Eternal Blades with them.”
The messengers bowed and rushed out.
Ethan stood alone for a moment, staring at the map spread before him.
His territory was growing, but so were the dangers surrounding it.
“Haaa…That’s the disadvantage of living in such a world..There is always someone who is cooking something.”
…
A day later.
“Damn! Which son of a bitch is causing trouble?” Randall roared as his figure shot through the half-finished stone walls and straight toward the legion of enemies.
BOOOOM!
Like a cannonball, his body slammed into the ground. The impact created a violent blast that sent brittle undead bones flying in all directions. Skulls shattered, ribs snapped, and rotten limbs scattered across the mud.
Behind him, the Order of Eternal Blades moved as one.
The swords were drawn in unison.
Swords slammed forward, cutting into the incoming undead tide. Holy runes along the blades glowed faintly as they sliced through decayed flesh and bone.
Randall rose from the crater, gripping his sword tightly. His eyes swept across the battlefield.
“Beast undead,” he muttered, frowning.
This was different.
These were not the slow, shambling corpses they were used to. These undead moved with animal instincts. Some crawled on all fours, others charged blindly, jaws snapping, eyes burning with cold blue fire.
A massive undead bull burst through the horde, its skeletal hooves tearing up the ground. Rotting muscle hung from its bones as it lowered its head and charged straight at Randall.
Randall was taken aback for a moment but he shook his head and stepped forward.
At the last moment, he grabbed the creature by its massive horns. His boots dug deep into the soil as he let out a roar and lifted the undead bull clean off the ground.
“Get down!”
He slammed it back into the earth.
BOOOOOOM!
The body exploded into fragments, bone shards and black mist spraying outward.
The Order of Eternal Blades advanced.
They moved in tight formation with their shields raised and swords striking with precision. Every step forward was marked by another undead falling apart. Heads were cleaved cleanly. Spines were split. Limbs were cut away and trampled underfoot.
Explosions of light and force erupted as knights activated their techniques. The forest edge shook and the trees snapped. The ground cracked under the constant impact.
The deeper they pushed, the thicker the mist became.
The air grew colder.
Soon, they reached a clearing.
At its center was a small crater. Dark mist poured out endlessly, thick and heavy, like smoke mixed with oil. From inside, undead creatures continued to crawl out, one after another.
“Huh?” Randall narrowed his eyes.
“This place…” one of the knights said as he landed beside him. “It looks like a dungeon breakout.”
Randall’s grip tightened.
“Let’s take a look.”
They took a step forward.
The ground trembled.
A deep rumble echoed beneath their feet, as if something massive was shifting below.
Cracks spread across the earth, snaking outward in all directions.
Then—
SWOOOSH!
A gigantic bony hand burst out of the ground and slammed into the surface. The shockwave knocked several knights back and sent dirt and stones flying.
Another hand followed.
Slowly, a massive body forced its way out of the crater.Bone scraped against stone. The sound alone made his skin crawl.
It was a towering skeletal figure emerged.
