Chapter 435:Attack on Frostvele
War had always been unpredictable. The tide of battle could change before anyone even realized what was happening.
Only a few days ago, Arcadia’s army had been advancing victoriously across the Frontier. Reports of success arrived one after another, and many believed the demons were already collapsing under imperial pressure.
Then everything changed.
In the blink of an eye, Arcadia’s relentless advance turned into retreat.
After the devastating defeat in the valley, imperial forces suffered heavy losses. Surviving troops withdrew in disorder while Legendary Realm commanders struggled to regroup the shattered formations. Supply lines broke apart, communication faltered, and panic slowly spread among newly appointed Frontier lords.
The demons did not waste that opportunity.
They struck back with terrifying speed.
Demon armies surged forward like a flood breaking through weakened walls. One region after another fell. Newly assigned human lords were either killed during sudden assaults or fled in fear, abandoning their territories without resistance.
Cities burned.
Fortresses collapsed.
Within only a few days, most of Frontier was once again under demon control.
Only the Northern western region still stood.
And that region belonged to Ethan.
Inside Blank territory, Ethan had been in seclusion, focusing on preparation and internal development when an urgent alarm shattered the calm atmosphere.
A sharp crimson light flashed across the communication crystal.
The Red Alarm.
The highest level warning.
Ethan appeared instantly in the command chamber, his expression serious.
“What happened?” he asked urgently as soon as he arrived.
Officers stood stiffly while tension filled the room.
“My Lord… big trouble,” one of them reported with a pale face. “The demons have come knocking on our door.”
Ethan sucked in a cold breath and slowly closed his eyes.
“Damn… I knew it,” he muttered quietly. “The extra region is hard to chew.”
He walked toward the balcony and looked toward the distant northern sky.
“Haaa…I hope we have prepared well enough.”
………
At the same time, deep within a dense mountainous forest located only a few miles away from Frostvale City, the demon army advanced steadily through snow-covered terrain.
Dark clouds gathered far beyond the mountains, and even from this distance he could feel faint waves of violent energy approaching.
Thousands of demons marched forward.
Their heavy footsteps crushed frozen earth while their beast-skin armor rattled with every movement. Some carried enormous axes while others dragged jagged weapons forged from black demonic metal. War banners made from monster hides fluttered violently in the icy wind.
Unlike humans, the demons felt no cold.
Their blood burned with such intensity that falling snow melted instantly upon touching their skin. Steam rose faintly from their bodies as if heat itself followed their march.
The forest trembled under their presence.
At the front of the army walked twin demon commanders.
A towering man with a massive frame led the left flank. His muscles bulged beneath thick armor, and every step he took left deep marks in the snow. Beside him walked a woman wearing the husk-like shell of a demonic lion across her shoulders.
Beneath that fierce exterior was a delicate and petite oval face. Yet her calm eyes carried fearless confidence. Her healthy yet rough skin and relaxed posture gave off an untamed wild aura that made nearby demons instinctively lower their heads.
Herios approached quickly and bowed slightly.
“Sister, the scout team has discovered a human magic array nearby. Our whereabouts may have been exposed.”
He paused before continuing.
“Should we change our direction of attack?”
The woman, Kiea, did not even slow her steps.
“No need,” she replied calmly.
She glanced ahead toward the distant mountains.
“Based on intelligence from the scouts, there is no main knight force of the Arcadia Empire here. Also, as per scouts, Count Ethan is only a Legendary Realm expert and he has not been spotted here.”
Her lips curved slightly.
“Just some private soldiers of human nobles. With you and me, two Legendary Realm fighters, they are not our opponents at all.”
She spoke as if stating a simple fact.
“We can just crush them in one swoop.”
Herios nodded immediately.
“Yes.”
Confidence spread across the demon ranks as they continued marching forward.
Even if their movements had been discovered, it did not matter.
In the face of overwhelming strength, preparation meant little.
An hour later, the massive demon force emerged from the forest and arrived at the outskirts of Frostvale City.
Watchtowers immediately sounded alarms.
War drums echoed across the frozen plains as horns roared from the city walls. Soldiers rushed into defensive formations while mana barriers flickered alive along Frostvale’s massive defenses.
From atop the walls, human defenders watched the endless demon army gathering below.
Snow continued to fall silently between both forces.
Weapons were raised.
Banners fluttered violently in the wind.
Reaching the outskirts of Frostvele City, the demon forces did not waste even a single moment.
The attack began immediately.
War drums thundered across the frozen plains while demonic horns echoed through the mountains. Snow scattered under the violent surge of demonic energy as their frontline units halted and formed organized assault ranks.
Herios stepped forward and raised his arm.
“Mages… prepare attack!” he commanded loudly.
Behind him, an old demonic mage moved ahead. He wore a necklace crafted from the teeth of unknown beasts, each fang stained dark with age. His shaman-like robes fluttered violently in the cold wind while strange symbols glowed faintly across the fabric.
The old mage lifted his staff toward the sky and shouted with fierce vigor.
Dozens of powerful demon mages gathered around him instantly.
They closed their eyes and began chanting together. Their voices overlapped in deep rhythmic tones while invisible waves spread outward. Instead of using structured spell circles like humans, they communicated directly with the spirits of heaven and earth through their minds, pulling elemental power into existence.
The surrounding air trembled.
Mana gathered violently above the battlefield.
The next second.
Boom! Boom!
The sky distorted.
Hundreds of burning meteors suddenly formed high above the clouds. Each one measured more than ten meters in diameter and burned with terrifying heat as they descended rapidly toward Frostvele City.
The falling meteors tore through the air, leaving blazing trails behind them.
Each meteor carried destructive force comparable to high-level magic.
With hundreds descending at once, the damage would have completely destroyed the city if left unchecked.
But Frostvele was not unprepared.
Before the meteors could strike, faint blue light suddenly rose from the ground. Layers of runes carved across the territory activated simultaneously.
A massive protective curtain appeared out of thin air and enveloped the entire city.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The meteors slammed into the barrier one after another. Explosions erupted continuously, shaking the mountains and sending shockwaves across the plains.
Fire spread across the sky like blooming suns, yet every impact was resisted.
The barrier trembled but held firm.
Herios narrowed his eyes.”It seems the human nobles of this province have made quite the preparation.”
Kiea crossed her arms calmly.
“However, don’t stop. Attack.”
