Chapter 439: Ordered To Engage
The human line advanced steadily instead of rushing blindly.
One hundred meters.
Fifty meters.
Twenty—
“Now!”
CRASH!
The two forces collided violently.
Mana struck against demonic flesh.
The impact sent shockwaves spreading across the battlefield as the first ranks slammed into each other with terrifying force.
Julia moved like flowing water.
Her sword flashed once.
Then twice.
Two charging demons split apart instantly before their bodies even realized they had been cut. Blood sprayed across the snow while she stepped forward without slowing.
Phillips roared beside her and swung his massive blade downward.
BOOM!
The ground shattered as several demons were crushed aside and thrown backward like broken dolls.
Behind them, Frostvele knights pushed forward with disciplined precision. Spears pierced advancing demons while shield bearers absorbed brutal impacts.
Unlike Arcadia’s exhausted frontline forces, Blank soldiers fought with coordination and trust.
Years of preparation now revealed their value.
But demons did not fear death.
They climbed over fallen comrades and attacked wildly, biting, clawing, and tearing without hesitation. One young knight was dragged down screaming before another soldier rushed forward and cut apart the demon chewing through his armor.
Above the battlefield—
SWOOOSH!
Defensive turrets from Frostvele fired continuously. Brilliant beams struck dense demon clusters and exploded among enemy ranks to relieve pressure from frontline troops.
Explosions erupted again and again.
Yet the demon army continued advancing.
Inside the battlefield chaos, Miranda and Nera directed support attacks while coordinating formations through communication crystals.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Shockwaves kept striking nearby as stray attacks landed dangerously close.
This was their first true large-scale battlefield command.
Miranda was struck several times by backlash waves and staggered backward, armor dented and breathing uneven. Nera managed to hold her ground better, but even her face turned pale from continuous mana exhaustion.
Amid all this chaos, one figure stood completely different.
Leo.
BOOOOM!
Leo charged forward fearlessly while wielding twin swords. His movements were wild yet precise, and every strike carried brutal killing intent.
His wolfish ears seemed to capture the sounds perfectly allowing him ample time to react.
The more he fought, the stronger he seemed to become.Blood splashed across his armor, yet instead of slowing, his eyes burned brighter.
He looked like a beast tasting blood for the first time and becoming addicted to it.
“Come here you ugly bastards!” Leon roared while slashing downward.
One demon lost its arm instantly.
Another lunged toward him, only for Leon to twist his body and drive both blades upward through its chest.
“Damn pests! Keep coming!”
He kicked away a corpse and rushed deeper into enemy ranks. His swords spun like storms, tearing flesh apart while curses escaped his mouth without restraint.
Demons surrounded him, but instead of retreating, Leon laughed harshly and pushed forward again.
Each kill only fueled him further.
Even nearby soldiers stared in shock at his relentless advance.
With Julia and Phillips leading from the front, human forces slowly pushed demons backward step by step.
But even amid chaos—
Another presence began approaching.
Far behind demon ranks.
Slow.
Heavy.
Terrifying.
THOOM.
THOOM.
THOOM.
The battlefield vibrations returned again.
Julia sensed it instantly and her expression changed for the first time.
“…So they brought another one.”
Beyond rising smoke and burning corpses, an enormous silhouette moved forward.
A second Belphegor-class beast.
It was wounded but alive.
Its mountain-like body dragged across the battlefield while torn flesh still smoked from earlier injuries. Each step crushed corpses beneath it, and the ground trembled violently under its weight.
Slowly, its enormous mouth opened again.
A horrifying suction force began forming, pulling snow, debris, and even demon corpses toward it.
On Frostvele’s wall, Emma’s eyes sharpened instantly.
She placed both hands firmly on the Arcane Burst Cannon controls.
“Recharge complete,” she whispered.
Mana gathered rapidly as glowing runes ignited across the massive weapon.
Below, Julia tightened her grip on her sword while staring directly at the approaching monster.
The demons had stopped testing defenses.
Now they intended to break Frostvele completely.
……
The marching of the Demon Army did not strike Frostvele alone.
Along the Northern Circass region, another massive demon force advanced steadily, attempting to penetrate the fertile plains that served as the main access route toward the capital of the former Ruthiana Kingdom.
This region was currently held by Duke Lancelot.
Unlike the chaotic situation unfolding elsewhere, the battlefield here had fallen into a strange stalemate.
The Demon Army had suffered heavy losses after defeating Arcadia’s Knight Squadrons earlier. Their movements had slowed noticeably. They attacked in waves but avoided committing their full strength.
To ordinary commanders, it looked like exhaustion.
But Duke Lancelot was no ordinary man.
Standing atop the fortified command tower, he watched the distant battlefield through a viewing crystal. His sharp eyes narrowed as demon troops withdrew once again after a brief clash.
This was wrong.
“It is a deliberate trap,” he muttered under his breath.
Behind him stood his son, Rake, holding several freshly delivered reports.
Lancelot turned slightly.
“How is the situation on our side?”
Rake straightened immediately.
“Father, we have blocked their advance and are engaging in daily warfare,” he reported calmly. “Both sides are still in the gauging phase and have yet to deploy their full strength.”
Lancelot nodded slowly, but he noticed hesitation in his son’s tone.
“However…” Rake continued, frowning slightly.
“However?” Duke Lancelot asked sharply.
Rake hesitated before speaking.
“Instead of worrying about here, I am more worried about Count Ethan.”
Lancelot’s gaze sharpened instantly.
“Can he defend the provinces?” Rake continued seriously. “Most other nobles have fled, leaving the surrounding territories vulnerable.”
He paused before adding in a lower voice.
“The force attacking them is not small. According to reports, there are two Legendary Realm Demon Generals commanding the army along with a Belphegor demon.”
“WHAAATTT!”
Duke Lancelot nearly slammed his hand onto the table in shock.
“Why didn’t you inform me before!”
Rake stiffened slightly.
“I just received the news at dawn, and I was occupied managing troop movements. Also, didn’t Count Ethan previously defeat two demon generals? I thought we shouldn’t worry too much about it.”
“Shut up!” Lancelot snapped immediately.
“What do you know?”
His expression turned grave.
“What if he used secret means before? How can we delay this? Who knows if Frostvele might have already fallen!”
He began pacing restlessly.
“Quickly arrange communication. I must contact Count Ethan and confirm the situation. No matter what happens, we cannot allow demons to enter the charted territories of humans.”
With that, Lancelot shoved the reports back toward Rake and scolded him again for his carelessness before moving toward the communication chamber.
Moments later, the long-distance communication array activated.
Mana light flickered and the connection was linked.
On the other side, Ethan’s figure appeared within the projection crystal.
Ethan gave a polite nod.
“Duke Lancelot.”
“Ethan,” Lancelot said quickly, skipping formalities. “I called because you already know the situation. How is it?”
