Chapter 447: The Demoness Assassin
Meanwhile, outside Frostvele, the battlefield had finally fallen silent after hours of brutal fighting.
Smoke still rose from shattered ground while broken weapons and demon corpses lay scattered across the snow-covered plains. The once white land had turned dark with ash and blood, and soldiers of the Blank army moved carefully across the field, clearing the remains and checking for survivors.
Medical teams rushed between injured soldiers while engineers began dismantling damaged siege equipment. Some knights dragged demon bodies into large piles for later disposal, and others collected usable armor and weapons left behind.
High above the battlefield, Ethan hovered briefly before descending toward the ground where the bodies of Herios and Kiea lay.
He walked forward calmly and bent down, removing the storage rings from their hands.
Opening Herios’ ring first, Ethan scanned through its contents.
Inside were stacks of preserved food, heavy armor sets, enchanted swords, and various combat equipment. Most of them were high-quality items suitable for elite warriors.
“All SS-rank gear…” he murmured softly.
Even for frontier warfare, such resources were extremely valuable.
He nodded slightly and stored everything away before turning toward Kiea’s ring.
The moment his consciousness entered it, Ethan paused.
Inside were neatly arranged belongings, including clothes and personal items, but what truly caught his attention were enormous piles of mana crystals stacked like small hills.
Almost all of them were A-rank.
Ethan’s eyes widened.
“Fuck… That’s fucking filthy rich…”
Aside from the crystals, there were numerous rare potions and several powerful attack rune scripts stored carefully.
He clicked his tongue.
“She might have thought it was useless here, so she didn’t dare to use it.”
Without wasting time, Ethan sealed the ring and stored it safely before flying back toward Frostvele Castle.
By the time he landed inside the fortress courtyard, cheers had already spread across the estate.
The moment his boots touched the ground, several figures rushed toward him.
“Dad, you were so cool!”
“Haaa… That was awesome!”
His children practically pounced on him before he could even react.
Ethan laughed and grabbed them into a loose embrace, ruffling their hair affectionately.
However, Miranda immediately slapped his hand away.
“Father… don’t touch my head. You are going to mess my hair.”
Ethan snorted.
“Shut up, punk, and let me touch it.”
She crossed her arms with an annoyed expression while trying to fix her hair again.
Leo stepped forward eagerly instead.
“Father, you can touch mine.”
Ethan burst into laughter and roughly messed up Leo’s hair along with Nera’s.
Both protested immediately while the surrounding soldiers chuckled at the warm scene.
After a brief moment of playful banter, Ethan finally walked toward Julia.
Without hesitation, he pulled her into a brief hug and gently patted her head.
“You fought splendidly.”
Julia exhaled quietly, though her expression remained calm.
“So what? I am still quite behind.”
Ethan shook his head slightly.
“It’s okay. You will get stronger.”
His tone carried simple reassurance rather than empty comfort.
Nearby stood Baron Phillips and Emma, both still wearing battle armor marked with signs of combat.
Ethan stepped forward respectfully.
“Father. Mother.”
Phillips laughed heartily and grabbed his shoulder.
“You arrived just in time again.”
Emma smiled warmly while nodding.
“The cannon worked well thanks to your preparation.”
They exchanged a few brief words about the battlefield situation before Ethan finally asked,
“What about the demon?”
Phillips glanced toward the inner fortress.
“Lady Amber had imprisoned her.”
Ethan nodded slowly.
“Okay. I will take a look.”
With that, his expression turned serious again as he began walking toward the underground holding chambers, leaving behind the lively courtyard that was still celebrating victory.
The stone corridors beneath Frostvele Castle were cold and silent.
Torches fixed along the walls burned with steady blue flames, and their light stretched into long shadows across the damp stone floor. The loud celebrations taking place above the castle had already faded into distant echoes. Down here, only the slow dripping of water and the steady humming of magical formations filled the air.
Ethan walked calmly through the corridor with steady steps.
Two elite guards stationed outside immediately straightened when they noticed him approaching.
“My Lord.”
He gave a small nod and continued forward without stopping.
At the end of the passage stood a reinforced iron door covered in sealing runes. Several magic circles rotated slowly across its surface, locking the space inside completely. The pressure coming from the formation alone was enough to warn anyone that the prisoner within was extremely dangerous.
Amber stood before the door with her arms crossed.
When she noticed Ethan approaching, her serious expression softened slightly.
“Are you alright? Did you suffer any injury?” she asked while quickly scanning him from head to toe.
Ethan stopped beside her and briefly glanced at the glowing runes.
“I am fine.”
His voice remained calm as always.
“How is she?”
Amber’s expression immediately turned serious again.
“She is barely alive.I sealed her meridians and suppressed her demonic core. Even if she wakes up, she won’t be able to move.”
Ethan nodded once.
“Good.”
Amber hesitated before speaking again, lowering her voice slightly.
“She tried to bite off her tongue earlier.”
Ethan’s eyes narrowed faintly.
“Expected.”
Demons of that level rarely allowed themselves to be captured alive. Death was often preferable to interrogation.
Amber studied his face quietly for a moment before continuing.
“You really crushed their command structure,” she said softly. “Two legendary generals died, and one assassin captured. No… you already killed three legendary realm generals before. The demon army will surely feel this.”
Ethan did not reply immediately. Instead, he stepped forward and placed his palm against the sealing rune.
Mana flowed smoothly from his hand and synchronized with the formation.
The iron door unlocked slowly with a heavy metallic sound.
Cold air drifted outward as the door opened.
Inside, the prison chamber was small but heavily reinforced. Suppression arrays covered every wall and extended across the floor like glowing veins. Chains forged from enchanted alloy bound the demon girl tightly to a central pillar. Holy inscriptions flickered continuously, draining her remaining strength bit by bit.
Her head hung low.
Blood stained the corner of her lips.
Her breathing was weak but steady.
As Ethan stepped inside, her eyelids trembled slightly.
