Chapter 496:The More The Better
The moment did not stay private for long.
At the far end of the corridor, behind a half-closed door, five figures stood completely still while peeking through the narrow gap.
Sophia slowly lowered her hand from the door handle, her expression turning complicated.
“…So,” she whispered softly.
“No one is going to say anything?”
Diana blinked once and adjusted her glasses slightly, her eyes still fixed ahead.
“I… did not expect it to progress this fast,” she said quietly.
Lia leaned against the wall, folding her arms while trying very hard not to smile.
“I mean… I saw it coming,” she muttered under her breath.
Mira, on the other hand, had both hands covering her mouth, her eyes wide in disbelief.
“Did she just—” she paused, clearly shocked.
“Yes,” Selena replied calmly from the side, her arms crossed.
“She did.”
A brief silence followed as all of them processed what they had just seen.
Then,Sophia slowly turned her head and looked at the others.
“…Our husband just got kissed by the assassin who tried to kill him.”
Diana nodded without hesitation.
“Yes.”
Sophia’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“…And he didn’t even move.”
“Also yes,” Diana replied in the same calm tone.
Mira finally lowered her hands, still looking stunned.
“Why does this feel normal somehow?” she asked quietly.
Diana snorted lightly.”Because it is.”
Sophia rubbed her forehead and let out a slow breath.
“No… no, it’s not.”
Selena shifted slightly and leaned against the wall.
“It actually is, considering him,” she said calmly.
They all went quiet again for a moment.
Then Lia leaned forward slightly and peeked again through the gap.
“…She’s crying,” she whispered.
Diana nodded.
“He’s patting her head.”
Sophia slowly looked up at the ceiling as if asking for patience.
“…Of course he is.”
Mira tilted her head slightly, clearly trying to process everything.
“…Wait… is this how it starts?” she asked hesitantly.
Selena raised an eyebrow.
“How.. what starts?”
“You know…” Mira gestured vaguely with her hands.
“First crying… then confession… then—”
“Stop,” Sophia cut in immediately, her tone firm but still low.
“We are not making a timeline out of this.”
Lia chuckled softly and shook her head.
“Too late. It already happened.”
Diana coughed lightly, then spoke in a calm and analytical tone.
“…From a psychological perspective, this is actually quite reasonable.”
All of them turned to look at her at the same time.Diana adjusted her glasses again.
“She experienced prolonged emotional suppression, followed by exposure to stable and non-hostile treatment. Emotional attachment was inevitable.”
Sophia stared at her for a moment.
“…You’re analyzing this?”
Diana blinked.
“Yes.”
Selena nodded slightly.
“She’s not wrong.”
Mira sighed softly.
“I don’t know whether to be impressed or concerned.”
Lia smirked.”I’m impressed.”
Sophia shook her head slowly, then crossed her arms.
“…I leave him alone for a few days and he comes back with treasure, a new slave, and now a confession…”
She paused for a second, then suddenly let out a small laugh.
“Hehehe… you see, my husband has got some charm,” she said while rubbing her nose proudly.
Selena glanced at her sideways.
“That’s nothing to brag about,” she replied calmly.
Sophia immediately frowned and looked at her.
“…Don’t say it like that,” she muttered.
Lia snorted again while Mira tried to hold back her laughter.
Diana simply adjusted her glasses once more, her expression unchanged.
The group remained there quietly for a moment longer, still watching the scene unfold, but now their expressions had softened slightly.
Despite the surprise, there was no real tension among them.
Only a strange sense of acceptance.
Kassandra had prepared herself for the worst.
She thought she would be watched closely, judged silently, and treated with distance. After all, she had once come here to kill the very man they all loved. Even if they did not punish her, she expected cold eyes and guarded behavior.
But what she received instead left her completely stunned.
Warmth.
Acceptance.
And something she never expected… excitement.
Especially from Sophia.
Sophia walked around her slowly, observing her from head to toe with a thoughtful look, and then suddenly clapped her hands with a bright smile.
“Yes… now we just lack an elf and a dragon,” she said casually.
“….”
The words made everyone in the room freeze.
Diana blinked and Lia turned her head slowly.
Mira looked confused.
Selena just stared at Sophia silently.
“Sister… aren’t you going way above?” Diana asked carefully, adjusting her glasses.
Sophia waved her hand dismissively.
“Sheesh… this is pretty normal. You don’t know anything,” she said confidently.
Then she suddenly raised her fist in the air.
“Our goal is to conquer everything!”
Her loud declaration echoed through the hall.
At the far corner, someone nearly choked.
Ethan, who had been quietly standing in the shadows, stiffened for a moment.
He slowly wiped the sweat from his forehead and muttered under his breath.
“Damn… my wife is way fiercer than I expected…”
He paused, and then a faint smile appeared on his face.
“…Ah… from where can I get such a wife… I love it.”
With a quiet chuckle, he stepped back and disappeared from the area, leaving the scene behind.
…..
Meanwhile, far to the northern side of Frostvele…
SWISHHH!
A deadly cold wind tore through the land.
The freezing air cut across the surroundings like blades, causing everyone present to shiver violently. The ground was covered in thick ice, and every breath released into the air instantly turned into frost.
“Hiss…” faint trails of breath turned into snow as they left their nostrils.
“It’s so cold…” one of the men muttered, his body trembling.
“Even at the Master’s stage, I am feeling this cold. I think others below might die.”
Another voice followed, slightly strained.
“Forget Master… even I am at Half-step Emperor realm and I am freezing,” Randall said, his brows furrowed as he tightened his cloak around himself.
He turned his head and looked at the lean man beside him.
The man’s body was covered with small warm fur beasts crawling over him, their bodies radiating heat.
“You’ve got it good, Young Lord Wales,” Randall said with a slight shake of his head.
Hearing this, Wales gave a bitter smile.
“I would not call this comfortable,” he replied quietly, adjusting one of the creatures on his shoulder.
He was about to say something more then suddenly..
RUMBLE!
The ground beneath them shook violently.
Everyone staggered slightly as cracks spread across the frozen surface.
“What the hell?” Randall shouted, his expression turning serious instantly as he looked ahead.
