- Chapter 529:The Shocking Reality

For a few seconds after the explosion, the entire battlefield fell into a heavy silence, and even the sound of weapons clashing seemed to disappear under the weight of what had just happened. The massive cloud of smoke and fire still rose into the sky, and the ground beneath continued to tremble slightly while cracks spread outward like scars across the land.
Han stood still, and his grip on his weapon tightened unconsciously while his eyes remained fixed on the distance where the explosion had occurred. His chest rose and fell slowly as he tried to steady himself.
“That… was one hell of a throw…” he muttered, and his voice carried clear disbelief.
Hale stood beside him, and although he had witnessed many brutal battles before, his throat still felt dry as he stared at the aftermath. His eyes did not move from the crater forming in the distance.
“If that hit the army…” he said quietly, and his words trailed off before he could finish.
He did not need to say more, because both of them understood exactly what would have happened if that attack had landed among their forces.
Ethan paused and turned at them.
“Yeah great!”
“Your comrade is fighting and you all just keep on spouting bullshit from sidelines.”
“What a nice way to chill.”
His words made Han and Hale swallow up.
Around them, the soldiers of Arcadia stood stunned, and many of them had stopped moving entirely while their weapons hung loosely in their hands. Some lowered their blades slowly, and others looked toward Ethan with expressions that mixed fear, respect, and awe.
On the other side, the demons had already begun to retreat, and whatever courage they had left was completely shattered by what they had just witnessed.
“No… no… fall back!” one of them shouted, and his voice was no longer commanding but filled with panic.
They no longer cared about formation or orders, and they turned and ran without looking back, while some even stumbled over each other in their haste to escape.
The battlefield that had been filled with killing intent just moments ago shifted into chaos as the demons fled.
Ethan stood in the center.
His arm slowly lowered after the throw, and the draconic scales covering it began to recede while the crimson glow faded gradually. His breathing remained steady, but his eyes stayed cold and focused as he looked toward the smoke.
He did not move immediately, and instead he waited while the wind slowly picked up and began to disperse the thick smoke.
Bit by bit, visibility returned.
A massive crater came into view, and the land within it had been completely destroyed while nothing remained standing. The ground itself had turned into a scorched wasteland, and even the air above it shimmered from the residual heat.
At the center, nothing remained.
The Abyss Sect member was gone.
Not even ashes were left behind.
Ethan stared at the empty crater for a moment, and then he let out a slow breath while the tension in his shoulders eased slightly.
“Good.”
Behind him, Han and Hale approached cautiously, and both of them carried a different look now as they observed Ethan more carefully than before and then decided to suck up to him.
Han spoke first, and although he tried to keep his tone steady, a trace of respect had already crept into it.
“Marquise Ethan,” he said, “that was… beyond expectation.”
Hale gave a small nod and stepped closer while still glancing at the crater.
“You just wiped out a Mythic rank like that,” he added, and his voice held both shock and relief.
Ethan did not reply immediately, and he simply turned his head slightly to look at them.
“They shouldn’t have come here,” he snorted softly.
His tone was not loud, but it carried enough weight to make both of them fall silent for a moment.
Han let out a breath and forced himself to return to a more composed state while he looked around the battlefield again.
“The enemy formation is broken,” he said, and his voice regained its authority. “We should push forward before they regroup.”
Hale agreed immediately and nodded.
“If we let them escape too far, they will reorganize again,” he added.
Ethan nodded once.
“Then move at once”
There was no hesitation after that.
Han turned sharply and began issuing orders, and the soldiers who had been frozen moments ago quickly regained their senses while picking up their weapons again. War horns sounded across the battlefield, and the human army began advancing in an organized push.
The momentum had completely shifted.
Ethan remained where he stood for a moment longer, and his gaze slowly drifted upward toward the sky as if he was thinking about something deeper.
The image of that divine spear flashed through his mind again, and the feeling it carried lingered in his chest.
“God of Darkness…”
His eyes narrowed slightly.
“Abyssal Sect… I wonder what you are cooking.”
His voice was low, but there was a clear edge to it now.
Then he lowered his gaze again and looked ahead as the human army swept through the valley, clearing out the remaining resistance and securing the area step by step.
Ethan stood there silently, observing everything while waiting for the next command, and although the battle here had ended, he knew clearly. This was only the beginning.
A month passed quickly after that battle, and the reports from the frontlines were finally compiled and sent to the Emperor. The results were clear, and the impact of those battles could not be ignored.
Lucien, who had previously been in charge, was held responsible for the earlier failure, and his rank was lowered without delay. His name, which once carried authority, now became a warning to others about negligence and poor command.
At the same time, Ethan, Han, and Hale were praised for their performance, and their names were mentioned repeatedly in the official reports. Their actions were recognized as decisive, and they were instructed to continue leading their forces forward.
On paper, the situation looked excellent.
However things on the ground were far from the truth.
