Chapter 527: Grimverse Arena, Mission Starts
Almond, Lily, and the others arrived in the Grimverse Arena.
The scale of this Arena was simply too immense. It was planetary in size, but not like a round planet. It resembled a mountain the size of a planet, divided into vast sections.
Since Almond and Lily were here for the first time, they received notifications from the Grimverse.
[ You have been registered in the Grimverse Arena. Your starting rank is Bronze. ]
[ You can ascend higher in the Arena by increasing your rank in solo queue duels. The ranks are as follows: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Challenger, and Apex. ]
[ To successfully graduate from the Academy, one of the many requirements is that you must reach at least Platinum rank. ]
“This is interesting.”
Almond raised his eyebrows.
“The notifications you got aren’t everything,” Admiral Rudra said with a smile. “All of us have already reached Silver-rank, so we can go up to the Silver section of this mountain. When you move up, you can also participate in personal challenges and team battles with bets to earn resources.”
“That’s very good.” Lily grinned. “The best and fastest way to get resources is from those who already have them.”
“You don’t need to be in a hurry to rank up, so let’s finish the mission first,” Big D said. “Good missions are hard to get, and they provide the most points we need for everything else. We have to use facilities and other things to increase our experience progress as Grim Students, but we need points for that — and we can only get points from missions.”
“That said, the mission will only give rewards to ten people, but there are eleven of us,” Silvester said with a wry smile. “We have one spot left, so it’s either Almond or Lily.”
The Regalons present in the academy were Almond, Lily, Admiral Rudra, Silvester, Hiroshi, Arjun, Julian, Big D, Kexell, Viktor, Bianca, and Liang.
“I think we should do the smart thing here,” Bianca said. “This is an important mission, so the strongest should go and the weakest should remain behind. In terms of overall combat power, I’m the weakest, so I’ll give up the spot and stay on the lookout for any new high-ranking missions that pop up.”
As she finished speaking, Bianca readily removed herself from the mission tab, creating two empty spots.
“Sounds good.” Almond nodded. “But before we leave for the mission, I think we should select our residency. The mission sounds like it’ll take multiple days, and we have to get our final residency within five days, right?”
“Yes, but this mission shouldn’t take long because you see that number in the corner? That’s the deadline. It’s three days, which means this conflict between the city and its invaders will end within three days, regardless.”
Admiral Rudra continued, “We’ve chosen the side of the dwarven city, but students from other academies will also be there — and some will have chosen the invasion side.”
Almond and Lily instantly realized the crux of the matter.
“So that means this war could end early because of interference.” Almond blinked. “If we go late, we risk failing the mission.”
“Exactly.”
“Alright, let’s go right away,” Lily said, selecting the teleport option and vanishing.
Almond and the others followed, and the group arrived in the dwarven city’s central plaza.
All of them received a notification from the Grimverse about their status.
[ Your <War Profile> in the status has been activated and will track your performance during this mission. You will get rewards upon mission completion accordingly. ]
[ War Profile – Almond ]
Mission: Changing Tides (A+)
Performance Points: 0
Rank: 117th
Two dwarves approached them shortly after, just as they were checking their War Profile tab in the status that had unlocked.
“Hello, students. Can you tell me which academy you are from?”
“We’re from Turning Crown,” Julian answered.
The eyes of the dwarves lit up.
“Grimlord’s academy! Please follow us. We’ll be leading you to the elite camp.”
The dwarven city was built on floating islands, an esoteric structure that reflected the creativity of the dwarves in their craft.
Molten rivers flowed across the city, and the temperature was high.
The city had large, advanced heavy artillery and was heavily fortified with towers armed with weapons.
“We’ll be providing you with custom-made armors as well, but there’s a meeting ongoing right now in the elite camp. It’s better if you all head there right away.”
In the northeastern part of the city stood a large glass dome. Inside were fifty-eight Grim Students from various Grimlord academies.
Adding Almond and the others, the count reached sixty-eight.
Everyone in this city was a Grim Student or held an equivalent Tier-2 position. The majority of the dwarves were Blacksmiths or Warriors, who were Tier-2 positions.
Many communities had their own ways to obtain desirable positions in each tier, so not everyone would be Grim Students.
Grim Students from academies also had the choice to join any community and progress from there if they wished. Everyone was free to leave the academy by losing their Grim Student position and gaining a random or choice-based position if they liked.
It wasn’t uncommon for Grim Students who entered low-ranking academies — those manifested by Tier-5 and Tier-6 powerhouses — to choose to join a city or community they encountered during missions if they felt they could progress better there.
But Grim Students from academies held by Tier-8 (Grim Emperor) and Tier-9 (Grimlord) powerhouses wouldn’t do that, as these academies were simply the best at accumulating potential and fostering stronger progress.
…
The meeting ended half an hour later.
The next wave of invasion from the Harapixies was about to arrive in three to six hours, so time was of the essence.
The Grim Students from Tier-8 and Tier-9 academies were stronger, so they were assigned positions in the upcoming battle accordingly.
The strongest teams were given the best positions to dominate the battlefield and fight against elite enemies — something everyone wanted, as higher performance meant better scores and higher leaderboard rankings.
Almond and Lily hadn’t had their Combat Power measured yet, so they were promptly led to generate their Combat Power to determine their position.
“The two of them haven’t been measured yet, but their team’s total combat power is already quite high.”
“It still can’t match that team from the Glorious Ascendency Academy, though. That guy in their team was ranked 4th in the Overall Grim Student Examination leaderboard this year.”
“It’s him? Tsk.”
“The others in his team are also all from the top 100. The gap is too big.”
“Wait, does that mean more top academies have sided with the Harapixies?”
“Aren’t we screwed then?”
“Who cares? Most of us have fatal transport talismans. We just need to do our best and get as many performance points as possible before we are about to die. This will end in three days anyway.”
“They’re starting.”
Almond and Lily began their battle against two Blacksmith Warrior dwarves.
