Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster - Chapter 454: Affinities [ 2 / 2 ]

Chapter 454: Affinities [ 2 / 2 ]
Let’s see… Rael glanced around and grouped a few other affinities.
[Void], [Time], [Fate].
They all seemed like interesting concepts, except he wasn’t sure exactly what the Void affinity did. In fact, the only clue he had about it was through his Void Cloak skill, which he hadn’t touched in ages.
It allowed him to completely avoid any attack with a 50% chance, so he could assume it had something to do with the Law of Space. Perhaps it was the higher form.
However, given how little he knew about it, Rael decided to put it behind him and focus on the other two.
Time and Fate… Rael mused, rubbing his temples.
If he were judging just from the skills alone, Time was superior.
He could deal a lot of extra damage to people who were much older than him, and frankly, everyone in the universe who was at least Grade 6 was old.
As for Fate… it’s tied to Karma and Causality. It would be useful in not getting deleted, but my causality was reset after I used the Premium Trickery: Death perk.
He wasn’t sure whether his negative causality would come back after everyone remembered him, but on the off chance it would, Rael didn’t want to get deleted.
After all, Rael was already on one strike out of three. When he finally left the Depths, he would be under the world and universal laws again.
So, between Time and Fate…
I’m going with Fate.
There were only a couple of them left, so Rael decided to speedrun.
Beast affinity? It does seem interesting, but I’ll get the Beast King Transformation after I kill 100,000 beings with my fists. So it’s a bit useless at the moment.
Minus the Beast affinity, he was only left with: [Fear], [Plasma], [Soul], [Fate], [Dream] and [Nightmare].
I have Burger’s annoying ass around, so I can get rid of the Soul affinity, Rael thought, narrowing his eyes.
Nightmares seemed interesting, but they were too invasive. Rael preferred Dreams since people always had their guard down while dreaming. With that, Rael was only left with four affinities.
[Fear], [Plasma], [Fate], and [Dream].
Come on… Why are all the choices so good? Rael thought with a groan.
His abilities synergized perfectly with [Fear].
His powers increased drastically with [Plasma].
His survival was more likely with [Fate].
And lastly, he would gain even greater control of the Dream and mind realms if he were to pick [Dream].
“Fuck…” Rael mumbled, turning to Burger, who was digging a hole in the ground.
Upon realizing Rael had spotted him, Burger froze and swiftly filled up the hole, acting as though nothing had happened.
“Did you make your decision yet?” Burger asked in a stoic tone. “If you did, then—”
“I don’t know which one to pick,” Rael cut him off flatly and quickly told Burger the options he was left with.
After a brief moment, Burger let out a sigh and spoke.
“Get rid of Plasma. If you become a Plasma Dragon as you are now, you will be instantly erased by the universe. It’s a power far too great for a Grade 1. Maybe once you’re Grade 4, then you can finally try it out.”
Rael nodded. “And the others…?”
“It’s your choice, Rael,” Burger replied with a serious expression. “I am your companion in a sense, but I am not a person who gets the right to decide what kind of dragon you would start off as. All three of the remaining choices are incredibly powerful.”
With that, Burger fell silent, yet with his front paw, he instinctively began digging at the ground.
Rael didn’t tease him about it and instead focused on himself.
It was a really difficult decision because all three of those affinities were things he would pick in a heartbeat. Now, to choose between the three of them…
Alright… Rael took a deep breath as a resolute expression formed on his face.
Finally, he began the last round of elimination.
[Fear] was incredibly powerful, and it would help increase his Fated One’s Willpower stat. However, aside from combat utility and stat gain, it was pretty shallow compared to the other two.
Therefore, with a heavy heart, Rael crossed out [Fear] in his mind. Now, he had to choose between the final two.
[Dream] and [Fate].
With [Dream], I could literally be a dragon who rules over Dreams. It would expand my control over my existing power… But…
“Hey, Burger?” Rael called out. “When will I be able to infuse the other affinities into my Dragon Heart?”
“Others? I guess that depends on your mastery of them,” Burger replied, tilting his head. “You see, the initial decision is always like a freebie. So as long as you have at least a tiny connection to that affinity, you will be able to make it yours. But moving forward, it’s not the same.”
He clicked his tongue. “Once per Tier, you will be able to assimilate another mastered affinity into your Dragon Heart… Or, you may enhance your existing Affinity. That’s what I have done, and I believe it’s the superior choice… But you are not obligated to follow my path. Make your own.”
Once per Tier…
“How many Tiers are there?”
“Ten,” Burger said. “Eleven if you have a Dragon God bloodline. That’s something that might be possible given your Premium Inheritance perk.”
“I see…” Rael sighed as he ruffled his hair. “Okay. I think I made my decision.”
“Oh?” Burger smirked. “You did? Let me guess, you picked [Dream] because of how shallow [Fate] sounded, right?”
A moment of silence ensued, but soon enough, Rael shook his head.
“It’s the opposite,” he said. “I am choosing [Fate]. It’s… it’s the only affinity that doesn’t overlap that much.”
Rael took a deep breath and explained.
“[Dream] is already connected to Draconic Neuroweb, Sloth, and Pact of the Mind. Even my Mindforged Emperor race directly ties into Dreams, and so do the Primordial Mark and Mind Weaver’s gift, so I feel like picking it would be a bit wasteful and pointless.”
Instead…
“But [Fate], on the other hand, I only have a single skill and the Eternal Fatekin race. It gives me a resistance to Causality Damage and efficiency with Prediction-Based skills and abilities. That’s it. I’m not immune to the world and universal laws. But I’m confident that by taking the [Fate] affinity, I can make myself immune to the world and universal laws somehow.”
Simply put, [Fate] was far more beneficial than the other affinities. It would allow him to grow stronger while also avoiding universal deletion. The only downside was that it might seem initially weaker compared to the other ten affinities he could’ve chosen.
Still, the skillset [Fate] would grant him was something he was looking forward to.
So with that, out of the eleven major choices, he ended up with [Fate].
“It’s a good choice,” Burger said. “That’s likely what I would’ve picked as well in your position. Void is also interesting, but using powers that belong to the Void outside of it isn’t very smart… unless you have the Fate affinity.”
He took a few steps toward Rael and sat down on the ground, glancing up at him.
“As it so happened, one of my previous wives used to be proficient in the Fate affinity, so I managed to learn a thing or two,” Burger said, narrowing his eyes.
“But first things first… Let’s assimilate that affinity into your Dragon Heart, shall we?”
