Chapter 458: The Past And The Present
Not only that, but the sun and moon cycles kept changing nearly every half second until eventually, everything stopped again.
The air, despite him not being able to feel it, felt heavy. The sky was dark, and Rael knew this was the time before he and Zafira had broken the Eclipse.
Rael glanced down at the debris of Celestara and, to his surprise, spotted a platinum-haired figure dashing around, juggling debris with a bored expression.
Of course, that figure was none other than Rael from the past.
From the timeline, this seemed like only a few hours before he met Zafira’s parents. Clearly, since Rael couldn’t go back any further, roughly three to four months was the limit for glancing into the past, at least for the moment.
Nonetheless, having the possibility to do so was extremely overpowered. He could study his opponents from a distance, and even find out their secrets and weaknesses.
But since he had this special opportunity, Rael watched the scene below him unfold as the past Rael finished up and began heading toward the little house he had built for Zafira in the cherry blossom forest.
The events had played out as they did in the past, with Rael meeting Zafira’s parents and them talking it out.
However, Rael, the one who was watching this all unfold, was fully focused on Zafira’s warm expression.
The last time he had seen her face was through a hologram, but now, it was almost like he was there, when in reality, he wasn’t.
Even so, he didn’t dawdle in this place for long since he knew it would only make him more and more depressed. So with that in mind, Rael imagined the time moving back to what it was.
I can’t look into the future, but I can see everything in between, Rael thought, and it seemed to work like a charm as bit by bit, time sped up.
After just a few seconds, he found himself staring at the familiar giant crater, and out of it, two people emerged. Rael and Solenne.
They fought, and as expected, Rael was getting his ass handed to him without even putting up a solid fight. In the end, he flew into the Demonic Lands’ mountain and activated the Premium Perk that made him lurk inside Solenne’s mind for a while.
However, to his surprise, when he activated that Premium Perk, an extremely strong pulse rippled out from him, spreading everywhere. If he were to guess, this was the force that made everyone forget him in the first place.
Still… Rael glanced down, spotting the familiar construct with a katana running toward him and then crumbling into pieces.
It was Chop-E, and the current Chop-E’s recollection of what happened seemed accurate.
“…”
I really hope I can bring all of them back eventually, Rael thought with a sour look, and then clapped his hands, causing the entire Prophetic Realm to turn dark once more as the visions he had just seen vanished.
Rael was sure he could take it up a notch. Perhaps he could even figure out where Lucien was. But for his own sake, and the fact that his headache was growing even more severe, Rael withdrew the Fate Threads back into his brain.
Slowly, he navigated the Fate Threads into his Dragon Heart, and in the next instant, the world turned back to normal.
Burger sat in front of him, wagging his tail. When Rael spotted that, Burger froze, a frown appearing on his face.
“I take it you were successful?”
“Kinda.” Rael shrugged and stood up. “I couldn’t see the future, but I could see the past and present. That’s something, right?”
“Hmm… You couldn’t see the future?” Burger repeated. “That’s a little odd. Even at such low mastery, you should be able to see a few weeks.”
He glanced up at Rael. “You did infuse the mana into your eyes, right?”
“…”
“Right…?”
Rael gestured at his brain ,then whistled, causing Burger to stare at him in disbelief.
“You… How is that your logical conclusion? You see shit through your eyes, not through your brain. How were you even successful? You know what? Don’t tell me. At this point, I’m starting to think I can’t teach you anything.”
“Come on, I’m sure there’s something,” Rael replied with a smirk. “Let’s see here… We got the Dragon Heart Affinity out of the way. What else is left? Basic dragon training? Dragon transformation? Can I transform into a dragon now? I can, can’t I?”
“Shut up.” Burger raised a paw. “No, you may not transform into a dragon. I understand you’re feeling okay, but even if you’re such a monster who can comprehend difficult concepts quickly, your body is only slightly more than human. I give normal dragons a month before they can transform into their dragon form. For you, I give a week.”
He narrowed his eyes. “If you don’t want to cripple yourself, then put aside your arrogance and listen to me.”
“Then…?”
“Since you’re not a total moron, I don’t have to teach you how to fly efficiently. However, I do want to teach you how to use Draconic Words.”
Having said that, Burger stood up on all fours and grinned.
“Sit.”
His voice resounded in a language that Rael didn’t know, but because of his Draconic Intelligence stat, he could understand it.
But more surprising was the fact that Rael’s body was instinctively lowering. However, before he could obey the dog, Rael spread the Fate Threads all throughout his body, canceling the effect of the Draconic Words and staring at Burger with a frown.
“So you’re going to teach me a language now? Are you serious?” Rael asked.
Burger shook his head. “Nope. Draconic Words are not that hard to learn. Just imitate my earlier accent and infuse your Fate Affinity into your throat. You’ll get the hang of it right away.”
Right as he was about to continue, Burger suddenly vanished from sight, and a moment later, he reappeared inside Rael’s mind.
[Before you call me a pussy, I want you to know I’ve reached the time limit for how long I can be outside your body, and thus I was forced back here,] Burger said, then coughed once.
[Oh, and you should probably prepare yourself. They’re here ahead of time.]
“What—”
<Ding!>
<The monsters of the Depths have arrived.>
