Capítulo 631: Convincing Marlen?
[…]
[I see…]
She was eerily silent all the while Rael explained what he needed to.
He had honestly thought that she wouldn’t let it slide.
After all, rules were rules.
Whoever enters the Depths may not leave.
Even the people who joined alongside Rael in the succession ceremony were likely still on the Sathmir Continent.
They just couldn’t leave.
Rael was the only person who was allowed to leave and enter however he wished.
There were a few players too, but he was sure most of them were from South Korea.
Since that was the case, they were now all frozen in time.
Nonetheless, as the silence seemed to turn suffocating, Alune finally spoke up.
[I believe something can be arranged.]
Really?
His expression immediately relaxed.
Can you accept him, then?
[Indeed. But only on one condition. He must go through thorough testing. We don’t want a Divine Realm spy entering the Depths. I’m sure you can understand just how big of a problem that would be,] Alune said.
Doesn’t Lucien already know how to enter the Depths? Rael asked, puzzled.
[Chronos and Evelyn tossed him out and closed the gateway that he used to enter and leave the Depths. They are the only two who are immune to his mind control.]
Hearing that, Rael flashed an amused look, then nodded.
It was interesting that they could monitor everything so easily.
But at the end of the day, the Depths wouldn’t exist today if they were any more careless.
Therefore, on Rael’s side, he felt like his job was done.
All Marlen needed to do now was to pass the screening that Alune was going to conduct.
Although he didn’t know her too well, he could trust her enough to keep her word.
And so…
[If that’s all, I would like it if you contacted me again when you have Marlen. I’ll personally descend and talk to him,] Alune said. [Until then, good luck, Rael.]
With those words, he felt the connection cut off.
But he didn’t linger on that for too long, as he didn’t want to waste any time.
Therefore, he closed his eyes, and then imagined himself in that plaza with hundreds of Dimensional Shops everywhere.
And when he opened his eyes, he was already there, wearing a suit and mask.
To his genuine surprise, there was one shop in particular just ahead that stood out the most.
It had a massive line of people, and not only that, every single one standing there looked really strong.
That shop’s name, of course, was The Infinite Shelf.
I’m glad it’s doing well here too. It seems like if it gets enough sales, it gets marketed in this place, and if that’s the case, I can expect my money to increase drastically.
But aside from that, Rael searched around the place and eventually found Marlen’s shop, then entered it without a care in the world.
Appearing in that weird supermarket, he soon saw Marlen sitting behind his desk.
Rather, he was passed out, drooling on his desk.
He must’ve been tired.
Or lazy.
Either way, Rael approached him silently, and then tapped the glass, causing him to abruptly open his eyes in wariness.
But when he spotted that it was just Rael, he eased up.
“It’s you again. How long has it been?” Marlen grumbled. “Thought you forgot all about me.”
“I couldn’t really visit due to some circumstances, but I’m here now,” Rael replied. “On a better note, I talked to Alune, and she said as long as you get past a few tests, you’ll be able to go back to the Depths.”
“Go back? Right… Honestly? I don’t really feel like going now,” Marlen said. “I’ve gotten all comfortable here, and I feel like if I leave this place, I’m going to be in for a world of pain and suffering. By that, I mean I’ll have to do a lot of work that I don’t want to.”
He gestured around the shop.
“Here, I can just sit around and do nothing while also getting a bunch of cash. I can just wait for Solenne or whatever to die. I can live forever, so I’d only have to wait a few eons or so.”
Wow…
This guy really was lazy, huh?
He would much rather spend his days just doing nothing instead of actually moving his life forward.
Just how long had he been at this?
Three decades?
That many decades doing absolutely nothing seemed just a little…
“You’re a bit of an airhead, aren’t you?” Rael sighed. “I get you from a lazy perspective, but don’t you actually want to start living again? You got an opportunity to get your life back, and you won’t be shackled as much. The Depths got a lot better since you left, so I’m sure you’ll find something you like.”
Honestly…
Rael felt like he was talking to a wall.
Marlen was just nodding and humming.
In the end, it didn’t seem like he actually heard a word that came out of Rael’s mouth.
It felt like a waste.
Both a waste of time and a waste of a perfectly capable individual.
But Rael wasn’t going to force him if he didn’t want to.
“Out of the goodness of my heart, I’ll ask one last time, I guess. If you don’t want to go, then that’s fine. But tell me straight up. Are you better off living the rest of your life in this shop, or would you want to get some degree of freedom again?”
Before he could reply, Rael added, “Solenne and I have already waged war on each other. No place is going to be safe, and I have a feeling you won’t be safe here either. That’s it from me, though. I won’t try to convince you any more. The rest is in your hands.”
With that, Rael simply waited for an answer.
Oddly enough, it wasn’t an immediate rejection.
Marlen didn’t reply for a while, until finally, just as it seemed like he had fallen asleep, he spoke again.
“I…”
