Rael approached them and smiled slightly.
“You’re joking, right?”
Alune grumbled.
“I’m afraid not. He retrieved the power he had been talking about, but now that power latched onto him pretty tightly. One of us would need to go into the Abyss, find him, and then free him. That, or we could wait a few days until he figures it out by himself.”
Wow…
This guy really was unbelievable, wasn’t he?
He had tossed Rael into that realm so confidently earlier, and even chatted with him. Now he was stuck? How was that even possible? Because of some stupid power? Bullshit…
“I hate side quests,” Rael said with a sigh.
But right as he was starting to regret coming here in the first place, the space around him cracked slightly. Just then, a hand came through it and was sucked back inside. The space closed shortly after.
“Uh… He said he almost got it,” Alune informed.
“So he was bullshitting us?” Rael raised a brow.
Alune paused for a moment, then shrugged.
“I think he made it overly dramatic for no reason.”
And clearly he did, since that same bastard went ahead and cracked the space three more times, until finally peeking his head through. Then, he just hopped to the other side, arriving in front of the three of them once more and letting out a chuckle.
“Heh. My bad. I didn’t mean to worry you lot.”
Rael narrowed his eyes.
“Did you get what you needed?”
“Yep.”
“Then are we ready to leave?”
Renoir smirked.
“You know, I remember you being a lot more patient a few minutes ago. Did someone pop your patience cherry?”
Rolling his eyes at Renoir’s words, Rael went ahead and nodded at Gaia and Alune.
“We’re ready. Any way we can shorten the trip? Not sure where we are, but I’m guessing moving across long distances quickly or through teleportation might push us into the Abyss.”
Instead of replying, Gaia pointed at Renoir.
“Heh. Yeah, I’ll be the one to do so. Check this out.”
In the next instant, Renoir snapped his fingers, causing a portal to appear in front of them. The portal seemed to lead directly into the Depths, rather, the Plague Lands where Rael had first arrived.
But something was a little off about this portal, and right as Rael was about to ask, Renoir went ahead and explained it himself.
“I’m using the mana of the Abyss to create this portal. Since I’m literally using the mana of the thing that would fuck us over, you can see how this’d fix something, eh?”
Kind of.
But then again, hearing that, Rael had a sudden question, especially after Karina’s earlier message.
“Who started the Memory Record? Or I guess, the apocalypse? Back when I first went in, I saw a completely white being. Also, when I started my own apocalypse in another world, the system said something about me being too early. Care to fill me in?”
He raised a brow.
“Hmm… Hold on a second,” Renoir put both hands over his temples and fell into thought.
And once he was done, he just let out a sigh.
“Got no clue, to be honest.”
“My ass you don’t have a clue. These are your fragments, so that means they’re your memories, aren’t they?” Rael said.
Once again, Renoir just shrugged.
“It’d be best if you just believed what I said for once. Had I known the identity of that being, or whatever shit you did, then I’d openly share. Or wait, do you think after I told you about your true origin, I’m still in the mood to bullshit you?”
He scoffed.
“If that’s the case, bang your head into the wall for me. But only after we go on through.”
The moment he said that, he grabbed Rael by the collar and tossed him through the portal. Gaia and Alune went through willingly, and finally, Renoir came through last.
The Plague Lands still looked the same as before, except maybe they were a little more lively. Rael didn’t do much to contribute to that liveliness, except for giving a few people certain items.
For one, he had a whole group of people in the country above the Plague Lands waiting for him.
On that note, didn’t he also ask his constructs to fix a city at the top of the Plague Lands?
Jeez…
Every time he thought of how much he missed, he became even more pissed.
Despite that, now that they were in the Depths, they could finally escape to the normal realm.
Or rather, that was what he thought for one whole second when all of a sudden, a powerful presence descended from the sky. The moment Rael looked above, he spotted the Beast himself.
He was levitating in the air and staring down at everyone present, including his daughter, Alune.
Soon, he descended. The moment he did, he glanced over at Rael and flashed a deadly look.
“You were the one who brought her?”
“Nice to meet you too, Zarkul,” Rael replied, then nodded. “I was. I didn’t have any bad intentions though, and I promise, I didn’t forcefully drag her out.”
“She wasn’t supposed to be out,” Zarkul said. “She was supposed to be home, resting and recovering from her injuries. And you… worst of all, you…”
“Alright, calm down, champ, you’re about to pop a blood vessel,” Renoir chimed in.
Coughing once, he added:
“All is fair when it comes to adventure, eh? And hey, have you ever heard the term, uhh… Rael, give me a term.”
“When life gives you lemons—”
Renoir bonked Rael over the head, and then turned back to Zarkul.
“A-Anyways… My name’s Renoir. Or rather, it’s Rael Altros. I’m your grandfather, of sorts. Not sure. My wife and I slept together and our child had a few of his own children. You’re the child of one of the children’s children.”
Then, he extended his hand and smiled widely.
“Nice to meet you. Let’s get along.”

A/N: I might have to use a LOA (leave of absence) tomorrow as I have exhausted my stockpile. My health’s been a little on the nose, but if I get better, then expect chapters to come out tomorrow, even if a little bit later than usual.
