Capítulo 836: The Difficult Choice
“I’m doing this to protect them. If they can’t enter, then good. At least they won’t have to worry about the people who are inside, since I’ll be keeping them at bay for as long as I can.”
At his words, both of them fell silent, including Nyx.
Honestly, Rael couldn’t see what happened in that realm, but he knew that if he went there, those people, or even Lucien, would never descend into this universe.
But deep down… he didn’t want to leave.
He had so many projects he had been working on, and so many things he wanted to do. The Sketa Online project across multiple worlds, the mega city, hanging out with his friends, hanging out with his wives…
The thought of forever losing such an option hurt him more than anything, but at the end of the day, Rael knew that the alternative was everyone he loved and cared about dying, then him finally fighting a powerful army all by himself.
In short, he would lose everything in exchange for a short moment of happiness.
Why was it always like this?
…Why couldn’t he just live a normal life?
He was so dead set on just living in Celestara forever with Zafira, getting married, having children… but then Solenne and the others had to step in and completely ruin that.
At times, Rael wished he could just snap his fingers and turn back time to live as just some regular lad.
There would be no Solennes, no Luciens, no the Depths or whatever… Just a fun little world where he could live his life to the fullest.
“…”
Shit.
Seeing Rael’s determination, and clearly somehow being able to read his thoughts a little, Renoir and Gaia both knew what he was thinking, so the two of them let out a sigh in unison.
“Why don’t you do what I did? Make everyone forget you. We both got the same skill,” Renoir said.
Rael narrowed his eyes.
“I know it’s cruel, but I never want them to forget me. Look, I’m not planning to die. I’m just going to go in there, clean up the mess, and come back. Time should pass a little faster here, so if anything, let Zafira and Lilith know about me, and that I’ll be back soon… Because I promise, I will be trying my best to find a way back from there.”
“Well, shit. Alright then, I guess I’ll have to tag along then,” Renoir said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Me too,” Gaia chimed in.
The moment she did though, Rael just lowered his head apologetically.
“If you leave, then I’m afraid no one else will be able to fight back against Solenne and the others. The same goes for you too, Nyx.”
Instead of responding in his mind, Nyx suddenly manifested herself in front of him, wearing a slight frown on her face.
“Why am I not going?”
“Because you’re the strategist,” Rael said.
Then, before she could reply, he added:
“You two are probably the strongest beings in the multiverse at the moment, so if you’re not here, I’m afraid the people I care about are going to die. I know I’m asking for a lot, but please, can you do this for me?”
Nyx seemed very reluctant, and so did Gaia. If anything, Gaia’s reluctance was written all over her face, because in no universe did she expect to ever be put in this kind of predicament.
She obviously wanted to follow him, since she felt like if she didn’t, he might end up dying all by himself there.
But she also knew that if she were to go, and Lucien were to come back, then he would kill Zafira and Lilith since no one else could oppose him.
In the end, it was clear that she didn’t have much of a choice here, so like the mature woman that she was, she just turned her head away from him slightly and nodded.
Seeing that, Rael exhaled a relieved breath. As for Nyx though…
“Come on, dude. I already made all the plans, formations, and everything else. What else is there for me to do?”
Rael sighed.
“Ask Gaia instead of me. Does she need you around?”
Nyx immediately turned to Gaia.
“Do you?”
Gaia pondered over it for a moment, then gave a very flat answer.
“Your strategizing takes too long, and the strategies I can come up with are superior. You can go with Rael. I’ll stay behind…”
Hearing her tone, Rael couldn’t help but wince slightly. He wanted to take her along, he really did…
“Gaia?”
“Yes?”
“I’m going to come back, and when I do, do you want to go out on a date?”
Gaia’s brow twitched.
“A date?”
Rael nodded.
“I want to get to know you a little better, if you’d let me.”
She paused for a moment, then grumbled slightly.
“Of course I’d let you. But you must come back first. Don’t make any empty promises to me, since without any knowledge, I know you won’t be able to keep them. Instead, simply do your best out there, and I will do my best out here.”
A faint smile appeared on Rael’s face as he simply nodded at her in return. Then, he turned around. In the same instant, the pouting Nyx went back into his mind, and as for Renoir…
“I gave Gaia full control of all of your constructs, so she’ll be able to summon them from the Mirror Realm at will. I also gave her access to the Abyss, and all the knowledge she needs to access the realm we’re going to in case your wives want to come as well. Now then, I’ll be taking us straight into the Abyss, so don’t get lost and follow me very, very closely. Do you understand?”
Rael once again nodded.
“Are you coming along with me because you want to find your wife?” he asked.
“Obviously. If she was powerful enough to get taken away, then she’s powerful enough to still be alive over there. In short, stop asking questions and follow me,” Renoir replied, and in the next instant, he opened a spatial crack over to the Abyss before jumping through.
Rael gave Gaia one final look, and then with a lonely smile, jumped through as well.
