Chapter 781: Chapter 781: Kou Ning Who Has Been to City C
The matter of people from C Base coming to S Base didn’t spread much, as Wu Zijian and his friends didn’t make it widely known.
During their stay at S Base these days, they didn’t go out to wander around much. However, they did make some purchases at the Heart Talk Store. Since Guo Yang was unfamiliar with them, he only apologetically informed them of the Heart Talk Store’s purchase limit policy.
“Our team’s supplies are limited, and I’m sorry to say that each of you can only make a one-time purchase of 30,000 Crystal Cores worth of supplies,”
Guo Yang said.
“Only 30,000? How come I heard someone bought 50,000 worth at your store?”
Zhao Jin asked incredulously.
“It’s like this, sometimes our team will go out and find some supplies that are nearing expiration. Those are not subject to the purchase limit. But recently, the supplies we’ve found are limited, so to ensure the store can keep running, 30,000 is already the limit,”
Guo Yang explained convincingly, leaving Wu Zijian and his friends with no rebuttal.
In fact, some of the teams from the base that regularly purchased supplies were aware that the two Heart Talk stores did not limit them. Since these few weren’t from the base, this made the teams waiting in line behind them feel secretly delighted, as if being a local regular meant VIP treatment.
Boss Guo certainly has never imposed a limit on them.
Heart Talk Store really always looked after its own, that kind of face wasn’t something just anyone could get.
“Your store is impressive! To be able to get so many supplies and even sell them to others, our base doesn’t have a store like this,”
Wu Zijian chatted up Shi Jin while he was counting the Crystal Cores, this young fellow seemed easy to deceive.
“Um, thank you,”
Shi Jin counted the Crystal Cores attentively and responded perfunctorily, as if he hadn’t really heard what the other party was saying.
“How much grain can you sell in a day here?”
Wu Zijian continued to act curious.
“Our base provides three meals a day, so people generally don’t buy too much grain,”
Yin Chengtian answered, looking at Wu Zijian with a guarded expression.
“Ahaha, young man, don’t get me wrong, I’m just envious,”
Wu Zijian, knowing he had said too much and seemingly unable to pry any information from the group, dropped the matter.
It wasn’t until the group had left the Heart Talk Store that Wu Zijian, who had kept a smile the whole time, showed an unhappy face.
“Brother Wu, I heard there’s a branch here. They only sold us 30,000 here, so why don’t we go to that branch as well? Even if they limit purchases, we can still buy another 30,000,”
Zhao Jin strategized as they walked along, knowing that securing these supplies was definitely a win.
“I was thinking the same thing. Let’s take advantage of the fact that they haven’t had time to communicate with each other and go there today,”
Wu Zijian nodded and said. The two stores were not close to each other, and even with the phone lines open in S Base, the other branch wouldn’t recognize them right away.
In the Heart Talk Branch, Su Jin and Lu Hao were still putting away supplies in the small warehouse out back. In the nearby rest area, a man with an eye patch lay in the corner, soundly asleep despite the noisy comings and goings of the Heart Talk Branch, which seemed not to disturb his slumber.
Su Jin and the others had gotten used to Kou Ning sleeping in the store every afternoon, and even the customers who found it odd had grown accustomed to it. After all, it didn’t interfere with anyone else, so it didn’t seem to be a problem.
As Lu Hao came out from the small warehouse, he happened to see Wu Zijian and his group in line.
“Captain Lu! So you’re also here on regular days,”
Wu Zijian said with feigned surprise, initiating a conversation.
Lu Hao nodded and, out of politeness, still hosted them in the rest area. They were here to buy supplies as well?
“Wow, your shop’s business is really booming, with an endless stream of customers coming and going,”
Wu Zijian continued.
“It’s alright, they’re just individual customers; it’s a small business,”
Lu Hao replied.
“We’ve never had such a store at our C city base; this is the first I’ve seen, and I really do want to buy more supplies, hahaha”
The robust voice belonged to Wu Zijian.
The man who had been sleeping in the corner stirred, but Lu Hao had his back to Kou Ning, and Wu Zijian and the others paid no attention to him.
“There’s no helping it if you want to buy more; our team hasn’t gathered much in the way of supplies recently, and in order to ensure the supply for the whole base, we’ve had to limit purchases.”
Lu Hao answered with a smile. Zhao Jin and the others didn’t look too pleased upon hearing this, having thought they could buy more supplies since they had come across Lu Hao, but he was not giving in easily.
“I see, but about the task we discussed yesterday…”
Wu Zijian continued to ask.
“We can take on the task for your C city base, but we’ll have to see once we get to C city,”
Lu Hao didn’t make any promises; they had never heard anyone mention the situation in C city.
“You guys are so noisy,”
Kou Ning scratched his neck and sat up, ripping off his eye mask.
Wu Zijian glanced at the young man, feeling as if he looked familiar but couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before.
“Why don’t you go back and sleep? You won’t find peace here,”
Su Jin came out with a tray of tea, muttering about the noisy Kou Ning as she walked, but the affection in her tone outweighed the annoyance, simply because Kou Ning had now become quite familiar with Lin Tianzhen and the others.
“I come and go alone early and late every day, only coming here to soak up some human energy. Aunt Lin has never chased me away,”
Kou Ning stood up, stretched lazily, and without any embarrassment, took a cup of tea from Su Jin’s tray and started drinking.
“If you want to drink, go pour it yourself, there’s still some inside,”
Su Jin was amused, her cups were counted according to the number of guests, and here was Kou Ning behaving as unruly as Lin Xiuyuan.
Kou Ning, however, did not go inside but pulled up a chair next to Lu Hao and sat down.
“Are you all from C city?”
Kou Ning asked with a cheery smile.
“Precisely, we’ve come here from the C city base,”
Wu Zijian replied with a smile, feeling ever more certain that Kou Ning looked familiar.
“Ah, that brings back memories. I stayed there for a good long while. By the way, was the C city base built last year?”
With a sip of water and a nostalgic smile, Kou Ning asked.
“Nonsense, our base was certainly there last year. Have you been to our place?”
Zhao Jin’s words surprised both Lu Hao and Su Jin—Kou Ning knew about the C city base?
Putting down his cup, Kou Ning stood up and carefully helped Su Jin to move to the other side while laughing and saying:
“I’ve never been there.”
For some reason, after Kou Ning spoke, Lu Hao distinctly felt Wu Zijian and the others all exhaled in relief simultaneously.
Just then, a metal wall suddenly obscured the Heart Talk Branch’s resting area, followed without warning by a metal spike coming straight out of Kou Ning’s hand, piercing Wu Zijian’s neck!
Blood gushed out like a fountain.
Kou Ning laughed, “Of course, I’ve never been to the C city base, because… there’s no such base at all!”
