Chapter 786: Chapter 786: Qiqi’s Dream
Although Su Jin didn’t bring out vegetables of various colors, the spread of dishes still made Kou Ning’s eyes widen in amazement.
“Everyone, please wash your hands first. Aunt and the others should also be arriving home soon,”
Clad in an apron, Su Jin carried a pot of soup out from the kitchen, looking every bit the part.
“Kou Ning, would you like to have some snacks first?”
Su Xiangzhe pushed a fruit plate filled with sunflower seeds and peanuts toward him.
“No need, Uncle, I’ll just wait for dinner,”
Kou Ning said, swallowing his saliva.
Su Xiangzhe held back his laughter and stood up to help Su Jin serve the rice.
Lin Tianzhen and Mao Zhihang knew Kou Ning would be coming over tonight, so they weren’t surprised to see him sitting primly at home.
“Kou Ning, eat up. Are you going out to kill zombies later?”
Concerned that Kou Ning might feel awkward, Lin Tianzhen kept using the serving chopsticks to pile various foods onto the plate in front of Kou Ning.
Knowing Kou Ning had a good appetite, Su Jin gave him a plate instead of a small bowl.
“Mmm-hmm, I have to go out. I’ll head straight out after eating,”
Kou Ning responded while gobbling down the food; was Su Jin’s cooking really that delicious? He felt like crying.
The fatty yet not greasy braised pork, he could polish off a plate by himself, and the lion’s head meatballs surrounded by little bok choy, the spicy boiled beef with chili oil…
Though he had eaten the stir-fries Lin Tianzhen brought him before, compared to these freshly cooked meals, it just wasn’t the same.
“Is a Metal-Element Level Seven really that powerful? Going out alone at night to kill zombies, aren’t you afraid?”
Lu Guanhai asked curiously.
“Not afraid. What’s there to be scared of? I’ve been out there day and night before, I can protect myself,”
Kou Ning replied.
“Kou Ning, don’t be courteous, we’re counting on you to clean up the dishes tonight,”
Su Jin said with a smile, thinking that if Lin Yunguo came out and saw Kou Ning consuming the food like this, he would also be delighted.
“Okay,”
Kou Ning nodded and picked up a braised pig trotter to gnaw on.
“Seeing a young man eating with such gusto makes me think I’ll have an extra bowl of rice tonight,”
Lin Tianhui, who hadn’t been very hungry, found her appetite stir as she watched Kou Ning eating as if it were a live mukbang show right before her eyes, especially since the villa was not as hot as outside.
“Isn’t that the truth. Sometimes, when I see this kid eating at the store, I can’t help but grab some snacks myself,”
Lin Tianzhen agreed, and what was key was that no matter how much Kou Ning ate, he never seemed to gain weight, maintaining his perennially lean figure, which she envied terribly.
“Aunt Lin, you aren’t fat at all, each one of you is a great beauty, what’s there to fear?”
Kou Ning tossed a bone into the trash bin at his feet and picked up his chopsticks to eat the spicy boiled beef slices.
Su Jin smiled and shook her head, seeing that her family didn’t seem to be uncomfortable with the presence of a stranger.
Compared to Kou Ning, who enjoyed a hearty dinner with his family at the base, Lu Hao and his group had a somewhat sadder evening, as they had finally encountered the mutant mosquitoes previously mentioned by Su Jin.
“Forget the mosquito net being useless, even tents might not work, right?”
Guo Yang looked at the mutated mosquitoes outside the glass window and said, “These mosquitoes could definitely easily puncture the tent.”
Local Tyrant Gold bared its teeth and glared at the mutated mosquitoes outside, its little hands constantly waving in the air as if it wanted to swat the mosquitoes down.
The group was now in an abandoned two-story restaurant along the road because there were the fewest zombies here, and the surroundings were mostly overgrown with deserted farmlands. They tidied up and then realized that the mosquitoes that appeared were surprisingly large, with the biggest truly being the size of a palm.
But now there were no other places to rest nearby, and likely, these kinds of mutated mosquitoes existed around here.
A mosquito larger than a dragonfly kept banging its gray proboscis against the tightly closed glass window—it’s back patterned like snake skin, making Huang Yunxiang feel uncomfortable.
Lu Hao, from behind the glass window, exterminated a batch of such mutated mosquitoes, but it wasn’t long before some more flew over from other places.
In the end, it was Lin Cheng who used his Earth-Element Special Abilities to seal all the windows shut, leaving no gaps around.
Doing so was beneficial; although everyone no longer worried about the mutated mosquitoes, the air-tight room made everyone feel oppressively hot.
Luckily, there were the special ability fans invented by Nie Qing, along with Lin Xiuyuan’s ice-element special abilities, that made everyone feel a bit better.
“I’m so tired and hot; I don’t want to eat.”
Liao Yifan said listlessly as he lay on the bed.
The second floor of the abandoned restaurant had no partitions, and they planned to rest here collectively. The beds were, of course, folding beds from Guo Yang’s space, but they also made Yin Chengtian and the others, who had been on the road all day, feel incomparably comfortable.
“Let’s still eat some boxed meals while they’re still fresh.”
Guo Yang arranged everyone’s meal. He had originally planned to cook some noodles with utensils, but indeed, boxed meals were the most convenient.
“Everyone get up and eat something; we still don’t know what might happen tonight.”
Lu Hao said. When you’re out, you have to be prepared for anything.
Local Tyrant Gold also seemed to feel very hot, only willing to lean against Lin Xiuyuan’s ice wall while nibbling on the cookies Guo Yang had given it.
Before falling asleep, Mao Qiqi seemed to hear the sound of mutated mosquitoes tapping against the glass from outside the wall. With those rhythmic, intermittent noises, she too fell into a heavy sleep.
However, perhaps because the room was a bit stuffy, Mao Qiqi felt as if she had spent the entire night having bizarre dreams.
There were scenes from before the apocalypse when she went to a classmate’s birthday party, and then in the blink of an eye, she was with her family on a long journey, a vast grassland and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Lastly, there was even a scene in a stifling, dim environment where a tall man was tightly bound to a table, with silver-white hair and blood-red eyes glaring at something…
And above the man stood Han Yizhou, who held two surgical knives. Han Yizhou stood there expressionlessly, the man she had seen die at the S city base—how could he appear in her dream? And who was that silver-haired man? Why did he feel both familiar and unfamiliar to her?
When Mao Qiqi opened her eyes again, she found her clothes were soaked with sweat—it turned out that the ice blocks made by Lin Xiuyuan had all melted. So hot…
Hu…
Mao Qiqi sighed in relief, glad that all of that was just a dream.
“Qiqi, are you awake?”
Lin Cheng removed a portion of the Earth Element Ability, and the blinding light of early morning suddenly streamed in—it was already daylight outside.
“Uh-huh, I had a lot of dreams; it’s a bit stuffy in here.”
Mao Qiqi said, her clothes needed changing too.
“Ah, I also had a dream, dreaming of a lot of big mosquitoes chasing me.”
Liao Yifan also woke up, her recent dream nearly scared her to death.
“There are no mosquitoes outside anymore; those things must be afraid of the light.”
Lu Hao said as he tidied up the bedding.
