Chapter 814: Chapter 814: Secretly Protecting
Liang Jiuhui soon learned about the Wei Family from B City coming to the S City base to purchase supplies from the Heart Talk Team, but he didn’t make it public because even he was surprised by the amount of supplies the Heart Talk Team possessed.
Although both Heart Talk Stores had signs limiting the purchase of supplies, regular customers knew they were rarely subjected to these limits.
The Heart Talk Store seemed to have become a living signboard for the S City base; everyone who passed by would glance at the store, feeling as if they had hope and direction just by looking at it.
Therefore, to protect the Heart Talk Store, Liang Jiuhui would only covertly support the Heart Talk Team in certain matters and would not make a big show of giving them any publicity or awards.
The same was true for this incident; even though Liang Jiuhui was aware of it, he made no moves to oppose or publicize it. He knew he didn’t need to worry about the Heart Talk Team’s supply reserves and wouldn’t use this incident to flaunt the relationship between the S City base and the other two bases.
“Let’s leave it at that, just waive their teams’ rent. Let them handle the rest on their own,”
Liang Jiuhui told Shao Zian.
“That works, the rent is paid by the Heart Talk Team, I’ll refund it to them later,”
Shao Zian nodded in response.
“Is there any news from the hospital yet?”
Liang Jiuhui asked, referring to Lian Jiyue’s situation.
“Nothing yet as of this morning, but it seems like Lian Ze has made some progress. He is discussing with the Heart Talk Team about going outside to find more precise diagnostic equipment,”
Shao Zian could tell that Lian Ze was deeply concerned about Lian Jiyue’s safety; he had even temporarily stopped the work at the Mecha section of the Weapon Research Institute.
“Looking for diagnostic equipment? What did the Heart Talk Team say?”
Liang Jiuhui asked. Lian Jiyue had joined the Heart Talk Team only later, and more than joining, it was more like he was saved by them, but the Heart Talk Team had always treated him well, even risking their lives to rescue him.
“Agreed on the spot,”
Shao Zian answered with a smile.
“That’s decent of them, dealing with these kinds of people really puts one at ease,”
Liang Jiuhui remarked, not surprised by the decision of the Heart Talk Team, and he hoped Lian Jiyue would recover quickly…
Looking at Lian Jiyue, who was lying on the hospital bed receiving nutrient solution, Lu Hao also felt quite conflicted. Upon deeper reflection, if it weren’t for their relationship with the Heart Talk Team, the Han Family might not have brought Lian Jiyue back to the B City base, so he too wanted to do his utmost to save him.
“Thank you all, can I join you tomorrow?”
Lian Ze asked.
“Of course, you’re the expert after all; we don’t know much about those things,”
Lu Hao nodded in response.
S City had no lack of large hospitals and research institutions pre-Apocalypse. After hearing about it, Liang Jiuhui also timely sent them an updated map. Although they might not be able to find the equipment Lian Ze needed in one day, at least they had a clear target now.
After learning that Lian Ze was Han Wan’s son, Luo Yan couldn’t help feeling uneasy, but Lian Zongren indicated that he had told Lian Ze everything truthfully, and Lian Ze seemed indifferent to these matters.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you at the main entrance tomorrow,”
after saying this, Lian Ze bid farewell to Lu Hao and the others directly, with no unnecessary small talk, including towards Lian Zongren.
Although Lian Zongren had long been used to this behavior from Lian Ze, he still felt that Lian Ze seemed a bit angry.
In the Space, Mao Qiqi, Lin Xiuyuan, and Lu Guanhai were sweating profusely as they walked out of the Teleportation Array from H City; they had been fighting zombies all morning. Lin Xiuyuan and Nie Qing had even taken care of several High-Level Zombies, but the Crystal Cores still needed Su Jin to retrieve them.
“Are the zombies in the entire H Province more abundant or what? Just in our alley, we’ve been killing for days, and they still keep coming,”
Su Xiangzhe said while gulping water.
“There’s definitely an abundance, so we can go there often to kill them,”
Mao Qiqi replied, her enthusiasm for killing zombies at her own hometown’s doorstep undiminished.
Although summer was hot, the alley was shaded by buildings except for a few scorching hours at midday, making it feasible to go kill zombies there at other times without having to drive out of the base, which also saved a lot of fuel.
“I’ve already put water in the tank, so hurry up and wash off the sweat. It’s almost time to eat,”
Huang Yunxiang said while working with Su Jin to prepare canned fruit.
Su Jin was making canned fruit again because Lu Hao planned to take a trip to City A, which might take three to five days. But before that, they still needed to accompany Lian Ze to find the equipment he needed.
“I don’t know when this ’cargo’ will finally be unloaded. I’m eager to go out with you guys,”
Su Jin pouted as she spoke.
“Didn’t Doctor Liu say it would take another month or so? What’s the hurry, child? If you end up with two mischievous brats, you’ll really have your hands full,”
Li Xiuying spoke irritably, her family seemingly more inclined to venture out even in these apocalyptic times.
“No worries, when the time comes, I’ll take my grandchildren with me and let the young ones do the running.”
Lu Guanhai had just finished washing up and came out from the annex, eager to take care of Lu Hao and Su Jin’s children, a lifelong dream of his!
“Cut it out! What kind of young learners could an old man like you possibly raise? I’m actually worried for my grandchildren,”
Nie Qing never missed an opportunity to attack Lu Guanhai verbally; everyone in space was anxiously looking forward to the babies, all vying for a chance to care for the children.
The moment Lu Hao walked in, he heard Nie Qing and Lu Guanhai bickering inside the Lu Residence, and nobody in the family dared intervene anymore; they just ignored the two.
“You’re back,”
Upon seeing Lu Hao, Su Jin’s eyes brightened. Lu Hao had stopped by to see Liang Jiuhui on his way back from the hospital to express his appreciation for the map he was provided.
“I’m back, let me wash my hands and help you with cutting,”
Lu Hao said, smiling and ruffling Su Jin’s hair.
“Let’s prepare to eat after you wash your hands, putting aside the fruit for now. Eating is the most important thing,”
Lin Yunguo put two dishes on the table quickly and spoke as he did so.
“Grandpa, what’s that big basin on the floor for?”
Lin Xiuyuan asked as he walked over.
“Oh, that’s for Kou Ning, I have Xiao Jin take it out to him later tonight,”
Lin Yunguo responded cheerfully.
“He can eat a whole face basin every day? He sure can eat a lot!”
Lin Xiuyuan clucked in surprise, but then he thought about how Kou Ning was out killing zombies all night, which might require a lot of calories. Having just come back from killing zombies all morning, Lin Xiuyuan and the others were also famished.
“Brother-in-law, I want to go too tomorrow,”
Mao Qiqi mentioned during the meal, deeply concerned about helping Lian Jiyue recover sooner.
“Yes, that works. Having Qiqi there will indeed speed things up,
Lu Hao said with a smile.
