Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse - Chapter 860: RV

Chapter 860: Chapter 860: RV
Kou Ning, who was eagerly planning to join the Heart Talk Team on their mission, was quickly disillusioned.
He turned his head to look at the few uncle-like figures seated behind him and felt even more despair. Wasn’t he supposed to be with the Heart Talk Team? Why was he sitting in a car with these uncles?
“Young man, my name is Liang Wei. You can call me Uncle Liang.”
Liang Wei smiled warmly at Kou Ning, who was examining them after having turned his head.
Dr. Pei and Ren Yingjie, who were traveling with him, also introduced themselves.
“Kou Ning.”
Kou Ning nodded briefly, simply introducing himself.
“Ah, it’s Xiao Ning. We’ll be counting on you for this journey.”
Liang Wei’s nickname almost led Kou Ning to buckle the seatbelt incorrectly. Xiao Ning? Not suitable for someone as imposing as him, come on!
He turned his gaze to the modified RV beside him and couldn’t help but sigh.
For this outing, Lu Hao had specifically provided an off-road RV for the Heart Talk Team. While the space inside was limited, all sorts of furniture and facilities were complete. Lu Hao even, with the excuse that children might be noisy, “kindly” placed Kou Ning in Liang Wei’s car.
Su Jin’s promise of “having meat every day” was irresistibly tempting.
Oh well, he’s getting a free ride and food without realizing he’s providing free labor, Kou Ning thought contentedly.
“I wish we had gotten these RVs earlier when we could.”
Lin Cheng was also satisfied looking inside the RV, expressing how well thought-out it was by Liang Jiuhui, even including a place for baby cribs.
“Yeah, we hadn’t thought of it at the time.”
Su Jin agreed, admitting they had overlooked such a good thing when they were gathering resources before.
“I didn’t know people from your side of the mountain lived in such comfort, even putting houses on vehicles to take along.”
Nie Qing remarked that it was his first time seeing an RV. Originally, he thought it would be crammed inside, but to his surprise, the space was surprisingly large, even with a shower room.
“The most important aspect is the good privacy, even if someone boards the vehicle, they can’t see the back at a glance.”
Lin Xiuyuan commented.
The vehicle slowly drove out of the gates of S City base under Su Xiangzhe’s initiation, with Liang Wei’s vehicle in the middle and Wei Junhao’s group following behind. The Heart Talk Team led this outing, and they would first head to A City, followed by D City and H Province.
Due to the recently ended Zombie Tide and the sun-baked roads every day, the outside of the base seemed somewhat desolate, with cracked surfaces everywhere. Dust was blown by the wind like fine sand, giving a sense of desertification.
Li Xiuying and Lin Yunguo, brought out by Su Jin, couldn’t help but worry about humanity’s future as they looked at this world.
“In the future, Xixi and Wangwang, when they come to understand, this is the sight they’ll see, it’s quite pitiful.”
Lin Yunguo said.
“Yes, but I believe their generation holds the hope for a new beginning, starting from the beginning to create a new world.”
Su Jin said as she put small socks on Lu Xi and Lu Wang.
Lin Xiuyuan had placed some ice cubes in the car, so the temperature inside remained cool. Although they planned to move Lu Xi and Lu Wang into space later, Su Jin was still worried about their feet getting cold.
Mao Qiqi found a spot with a small table inside the RV and started reading a book, whether due to the family’s steady driving skills or the vehicle’s superior performance, she felt no jolting.
Though they encountered some zombie disturbances on the road this morning, the Heart Talk Team cleared the zombies quickly, leaving Wei Junhao’s group without needing to get off the car as the family had already dug out the Crystal Cores.
“Look, 800,000 worth it or not?”
Wei Junhao said proudly.
“They’re even more remarkable than when they came to rescue us last year.”
Pei Yuan also praised.
Just then, a discordant rumbling sound appeared. Kou Ning touched his stomach, asked Xiao Liu for the walkie-talkie, and asked,
“Hey everyone, when is lunch?”
“As soon as we find a reasonably cool and safe spot.”
Lu Hao replied. It was already midday, no wonder Kou Ning was calling for food.
The Heart Talk Team had traveled this road many times, and indeed there was a safe spot nearby. When the group got off the car, they marveled at finding such a clean and cool place.
This used to be a private rural restaurant situated on a high slope beside the road before the apocalypse. Although the bamboo forest behind had turned yellow and dry, it still cast a shadow making the place cooler.
Lu Hao and the team had discovered this location during their last trip to A City. It had been cleaned beforehand so that just a bit of wiping would allow everyone to rest.
“It’s nice here, seems like someone had rested here before.”
Pei Yuan said.
Liang Wei nodded, “And after resting, they tidied up, must have been a good group.”
Huang Yunxiang grinned to herself, it was her, after all, who had used the Water ability to clean the place.
“While in the RV earlier, we cooked two big pots of rice using the electric cooker, the dishes were prepared in the morning, just need to reheat them and then we can eat.”
Huang Yunxiang said as she gestured Lin Xiuyuan to serve the food.
Lu Hao hugged a little one under each arm as he got off the car, while Su Jin took out a double baby stroller from the space, letting Lu Hao place the two little ones inside.
“Awake?”
Liang Wei showed great interest at the two babies, his eyes never leaving the stroller.
They’re so adorably chubby!
“Su Jin, will they fuss in the car? They’re too cute!”
Bai Ying was almost exclaiming with hearts in her eyes. After seeing zombies and the rough men around her, these two fair adorable babies were melting her heart.
“They’re fine, occasionally they fuss. They practically slept the whole way in the car just now.”
Su Jin replied with a smile, her gaze full of affection for the two children.
With so many people around, the family no longer worried about safety and began preparing lunch, while Luo Hongyi and Zheng Shu rushed over to help organize.
Su Jin also took out a standing fan and outdoor battery from the space, ensuring everyone wouldn’t be sweating too much while eating.
“What kind of pork knuckle is this? So big?”
Kou Ning asked in surprise. It clearly tasted like pork knuckle but was so large in size. Could it be mutated wild boar?
“Bear maybe? We hunted it earlier up North Mountain?”
Lu Guanhai scratched his head, responding uncertainly.
“Ahead seems to be North Mountain? I’d like to stop there; do you think it’s convenient?”
Ren Yingjie asked, knowing North Mountain was rich in resources. As an agricultural researcher in the apocalypse, he didn’t want to miss the opportunity there.
“Sure, we can rest around there in the evening as well.”
Lu Hao nodded in agreement.
Ren Yingjie instantly became pleased, beginning to hope he’d find something useful to contribute to the base.
“Great, I’ll go hunt some mutated beasts tonight, then we won’t have to worry about meat on this journey.”
Kou Ning said.
