Chapter 869: Chapter 869: A Very Good Colleague
It turned out that the intelligence from the Heart Talk Team was quite accurate.
Just twenty minutes after entering H Province, the convoy was blocked by zombies. After everyone worked together to eliminate them, they were blocked again after just over ten minutes…
“I knew there were a lot of zombies here, but I didn’t expect so many…”
Liang Wei frowned as he watched the Heart Talk Team and Wei Junhao fighting outside the window.
“It seems that the further north we go, the worse the zombie situation becomes?”
Pei Yuan had a feeling. In comparison, the situation in S City was much better.
“It must be that there are fewer survivors here, a vicious cycle.”
Ren Yingjie only hated that he didn’t have a special ability; otherwise, he could help with killing zombies too.
However, the members of the Heart Talk Team were each like a one-man army. Su Jin even spawned a man-eating flower beside their car to reduce the pressure from the zombies outside on the vehicle.
Lin Xiuyuan and Huang Yunxiang had restored their original appearances. After learning that there were Water Element Ability Users in Wei Junhao’s team, Huang Yunxiang was no longer stingy with her water ability, attacking in conjunction with Su Xiangzhe’s thunder element ability in a wide-ranging assault.
Having eaten and rested well, Kou Ning was sitting atop the RV, sending down long metal blades like a cutting machine, harvesting the zombies’ heads below.
“Dead City or whatever, as long as there’s food, I could stay there for a year.”
Kou Ning muttered.
“Wouldn’t you get bored?”
Su Jin, curious after hearing this, asked. Kou Ning wasn’t exactly a loner; how did he endure being in a city alone?
“Entertaining myself, you know. I have hundreds of attack methods, researching them is fun too.”
Kou Ning again unleashed strands of metal wire, slicing a few zombies rushing towards him and Su Jin into minced meat.
“Impressive.”
Su Jin had long wanted to praise him; Kou Ning was indeed a talented special ability user — his metal element seemed made for him.
“Xiao Jin, let me handle this side.”
Lu Hao, hearing Su Jin’s praise of Kou Ning, immediately walked over from a distance.
Because of the hot weather and the high temperature around his fire element ability, he usually stood a bit further from everyone while killing zombies. With special ability users’ keen hearing, even if Su Jin was complimenting a “guest” of theirs, he still felt he should pay attention.
Since the birth of Lu Xi and Lu Wang, Su Jin’s eyes had only been on the two kids.
Lu Hao thought wistfully.
“Well, your jealous husband is here, I’ll head over there.”
Smart as Kou Ning was, how could he not see Lu Hao’s expression, although to Su Jin, it was just a poker face.
“…”
After a sweaty battle, Ren Yingjie also got out of the car to help everyone dig crystal cores. Pei Yuan and Liang Wei also wanted to help but were stopped by Su Jin.
They could now use special abilities to dig crystal cores. Pei Yuan and Liang Wei were older and found it inconvenient to bend over and use tools.
“I heard that Su Jin, you were originally from here too?”
Ren Yingjie asked while digging.
“Yes, unfortunately, our hometown has turned into a dead city.”
Su Jin bitterly smiled.
“Ah, this damned zombie virus!”
Ren Yingjie was helpless; his hometown was no different.
Fortunately, after the second blockade, the three cars successfully plowed through wave after wave of zombies along the road without incident, finding a place to rest overnight before the afternoon.
“I didn’t expect our H City to be the area with the least zombies around here.”
Su Xiangzhe felt a sense of accomplishment hearing Mao Qiqi’s assessment.
Mao Qiqi said that within several dozen miles, the number of zombies was least inside H City. The reason was something the family naturally knew well.
It wasn’t in vain that they spent the past few months practicing their abilities by coming here to kill zombies whenever they had the chance.
“Let’s go back to the hotel we rested at last time.”
Su Jin suggested; they didn’t plan to bring everyone to their house, as it wouldn’t accommodate them all.
“Yeah, that works.”
Mao Qiqi agreed.
“Su Jin, Lu Hao, how long do you estimate it will take to reach the base in H Province?”
After resting for a while in the hotel lobby, Liang Wei asked.
“We’ll try to get everyone there tomorrow.”
Lu Hao said.
“You’ve been there, how is it?”
Wei Junhao inquired curiously.
“Except for the number of zombies, everything else is fine.”
Lu Hao recalled that when they left, Guan Shouzhong’s base was well-stocked and even reinforcing the city walls. It should have developed by now.
“More zombies, I like it.”
Kou Ning said on the side, chewing on a bone he finished eating at some point.
“Beyond H Province is Z Province. I wonder what it’s like there.”
Liang Wei looked at the map; it was still an unknown place with no information or intelligence.
“That area was sparsely populated even before the apocalypse. I think it shouldn’t be too bad, just worried the roads might be hard to find.”
Su Xiangzhe analyzed, hearing last time that Chang Xuan’s group of scientists went as far as Y Province but didn’t find any small bases in Z Province.
“Uncle Liang, perhaps we should consider returning after finishing with H Province.”
Wei Junhao thought that if there was a major base in Z Province, Chang Xuan’s team would surely have heard of it or found it. If they hadn’t, either it had fallen or was a very small, secluded base, making it insignificant to consult.
“Xiao Wei makes sense, but I still want to see if anyone at the H Province base has intelligence on Z Province once we get there.”
Liang Wei didn’t completely dismiss Wei Junhao’s suggestion. Z Province was indeed far, and its significance was limited, but it piqued his curiosity.
No one expected that the Heart Talk Team, previously said to have only visited the H Province base, actually had a friendship with the Base Leader there.
And it seemed to be a very good kind of friendship.
Always mature and composed, Xiang Sanjin almost jumped for joy when he saw Lu Hao and Su Jin’s group, his happiness akin to a child.
“Captain Lu! Sister-in-law! You guys… boo hoo hoo.”
After the excitement, Xiang Sanjin even teared up in front of them. Why does he always feel like he’s meeting long-lost family whenever he sees Captain Lu and them?
“Alright, enough crying. Captain Lu, who are these folks?”
Guan Shouzhong naturally noticed the group of people following them, who didn’t look like Heart Talk Team members or refugees.
After Lu Hao’s introduction, Guan Shouzhong realized that Captain Lu was indeed promoting their base.
“Su Jin, they call your man Captain Lu? What’s the story there?”
Kou Ning asked, edging closer.
“They used to… be colleagues, really good colleagues.”
Su Jin didn’t know how else to explain, so she could only say that.
