Chapter 873: Chapter 873: The Future of the Base
By late afternoon, the family lost track of how many zombies they had killed; the day felt endlessly long as every hour of rest in the space equated to just ten minutes outside.
Su Jin occasionally went inside to spend time with Lu Xi and Lu Wang. Unknowingly, the zombies that had already breached three locations were nearly eliminated.
“There are still zombies from three locations that haven’t come out yet,”
Mao Qiqi said. Perhaps the distance was too far, and despite standing there like human “food” all day, they hadn’t completely attracted them over.
“Then let’s come back again tomorrow,”
Lu Hao suggested.
“Why don’t we just stay and not go back tonight, continue tomorrow?”
Lin Xiuyuan proposed, as they’d have to come out early the next morning anyway.
“I think that works, and we don’t need to remove the Man-eating Flower either,”
Su Jin thought it was the perfect solution, saving fuel and time.
Seeing no objections, Lu Hao agreed. After washing the crystal cores, Huang Yunxiang hurriedly informed everyone, then entered the space to upgrade to Level Six.
In the space, one night was equal to four days. To pass the time, Su Jin placed a pot of spatial cow blood next to the Man-eating Flower. The scent attracted a continuous stream of zombies, giving Su Jin and Lu Hao a chance to use up some special abilities during their downtime.
“Maybe I have a chance to level up this month too,”
Su Jin said, feeling a faint sense of nearing Level Eight while enviously watching Huang Yunxiang.
“Hmm, I haven’t felt that way yet,”
Lu Hao didn’t feel unbalanced; Su Jin’s special ability started at Level Three, and with the Man-eating Flower’s support, it was already impressive that they were level.
However, the Heart Talk Team’s absence for a night left Guan Shouzhong deeply unsettled. Even though Liang Wei and Wei Junhao reassured him, he still drove towards the Vacation Villa at dawn to check on the situation.
But being alone, he dared not enter when he saw the dense zombie horde ahead.
After a day and a night, are there still so many zombies?
What’s going on with Captain Lu and his team now?
Returning without results, Guan Shouzhong notified the base’s survivors about the situation, advising them to stay in unless necessary, due to the unusual circumstances.
Just as dusk fell, Xiang Sanjin rushed back, ignoring hindrances as he burst into the meeting room, excitedly announcing to everyone, “Captain Lu, the Heart Talk Team! They’re back!”
“They’re back?!”
Guan Shouzhong stood up, running outside without hesitation.
“I told you they’d come back,”
Wei Junhao said, but still followed them out.
“Ah yay~”
Miracle seemed to sense something, reaching towards the door as if wanting to be picked up.
“Xiao Qi, I’ll stay and wait with you. Your dad and the others should be back soon, “
Liang Wei was fond of children, initially wanting to go out, but he couldn’t leave the little one alone, showing the difference between how men and women care for children.
Seemingly understanding, little Miracle settled down, reaching again for Su Jin’s hanging mobile above, the jingle creating a crisp sound each time touched…
Seeing Lu Hao’s group returning unscathed put everyone’s mind at ease.
“Captain Lu! Are you all okay?”
Guan Shouzhong asked nonetheless.
“I said we’re fine, here you go,”
Lu Hao handed him a map, and Guan Shouzhong took one glance, shocked.
“This…”
Several places he had previously marked on the map were crossed with red Xs!
How is this possible? Just two days!
“Yes, all six locations have been cleared,”
Lu Hao answered, seemingly understanding the doubt in Guan Shouzhong’s eyes.
“There… there were fifty to sixty thousand zombies, you all?”
Guan Shouzhong still couldn’t believe that in just two days, a few of them cleared fifty to sixty thousand zombies?
“A bit tired, we’re going to rest first, you can send people to tidy up the site,”
Lu Hao said, noting that after killing zombies, they immediately rushed back without rest, also leaving the zombie corpses at the Vacation Villa uncleared.
“What’s going on? Could it be like I think?”
Xiang Sanjin moved closer, eyeing the map inquiringly, but seeing the familiar marks, he understood, the red mark was Captain Lu’s symbol for mission completion…
The news of the complete annihilation of zombies around the Vacation Villa, including its vicinity, quickly spread across the H Province base. Survivors, worried about a massive zombie tide for the past two days, initially doubted the veracity of the message.
It wasn’t until the base officially posted a notice that people were surprised into belief.
“It’s true! When we passed by today, we took a look and oh my, it was all zombie corpses!”
“We saw it too, the places where zombies were trapped—there were none left!”
“Did the base send people to clean it? But there hasn’t been any large-scale dispatch recently…”
“I heard that our Base Leader hired a very powerful team, about ten people, to clear those areas.”
“How can that be, only about ten people? Are you joking?”
“…”
Amid guesses and doubts, Guan Shouzhong straightforwardly announced the truth over the base’s broadcast, confirming that indeed a bounty team called the Heart Talk Team was responsible for eliminating that many zombies.
What is a bounty team?
Few in the H Province base had heard of such a team, allowing Guan Shouzhong to take this opportunity to explain their significance, sharing the status of bounty teams across bases, and encouraging everyone to register and form bounty teams.
“Bounty teams can not only take on tasks from our base but also from others. Humanity’s future won’t be confined to the present stagnation; connections between bases will form, and I hope everyone can actively participate, working together with other bases and humanity to progress!”
Guan Shouzhong’s voice was powerful, and as people looked towards the broadcast, many were moved by his words about the future.
The future of humanity?
Do they really have a future? They had always thought this small city was their last sanctuary, fearing the zombies would eventually consume it. Yet now, the Base Leader was speaking of the future.
But indeed, there was a team of about 10 people who wiped out so many zombies in two days.
Maybe humanity truly can!
The Novel will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone!
