Chapter 544: Ch 544 – Auntie, are you jealous?
Yino had always known many of her secrets while living in the He mansion, but he was grown up now. He was no longer the crybaby who clung to her. He felt it was time to be honest with her about her identity, her role as the Pavilion Master of Hundred Spirits Pavilion, and what their relationship actually was. After all, they weren’t actually related by blood.
“Such a small matter doesn’t need the National Advisor to answer…”
“There’s no one else here. If you want to ask something, I can answer you now.”
Xinyao leaned against a massive peach tree outside the temple with her hands behind her back. She lowered her gaze and couldn’t look him in the eye.
“I want to know your relationship with the National Advisor.”
Yino took a step forward until they were only half a step apart. The girl was silent for a moment before looking up.
“I suppose I am a subordinate of the Phoenix Lord. When you were born, the National Advisor placed me in the He mansion to act as your guardian.”
“So you aren’t my real auntie? We don’t have a blood connection?”
Xinyao’s face turned pale at his question. She was shocked that he had figured out the secret she had hidden for so many years so quickly. Beyond the shock, she felt a deep sense of insecurity. She was afraid that he would feel distant from her now that he knew the truth. She feared he would hate her or call her a liar for making him live a lie since childhood.
However, before those negative emotions could make her cry, she saw a look of warmth and tenderness on Yino’s face.
“I’m sorry. I really am not your auntie…”
She bit her lip and admitted it in a small voice. She didn’t understand why he wasn’t angry about being deceived. Instead, his eyes showed an even more intense emotion than before.
“Why…”
She gripped the edge of her skirt with her slender hands. She looked helpless and confused, or perhaps she was just pretending not to understand.
“Because I already knew you weren’t my real auntie.”
“If you were really my mother’s sister, how would you explain your blonde hair and golden eyes while mine are black? If we were related, how would you explain your golden totems while I have black seals and black wings when I release my bloodline?”
Yino spoke calmly. He knew that when she asked why, she was asking about his feelings for her rather than the bloodline.
“As expected of the little guy I raised. You really are smart!”
Xinyao forced a smile and stood on her tiptoes to pinch his cheek. At some point, Yino had grown tall enough that she had to look up at him. When he was little, she used to squat down to play with his round face. Ten years had passed, and now she had to reach up just to touch his head.
“Auntie, I have one more question.”
“Go ahead.”
“The Pavilion Master of Hundred Spirits Pavilion in Western Province City is also you, right?”
The hand on his face froze again. She looked embarrassed as she pinched his cheek and turned her head with a red face.
“So smart! Nothing can be hidden from my little rascal!”
“But… why did you lie to me at the pavilion and say you sold Junior Yunjin?”
Yino’s eyes turned cold as he brought up the grudge. Xinyao’s smile stiffened. She looked away and puffed out her cheeks as if she didn’t care.
“She’s just a human girl… Besides, I was just testing your strength. I didn’t actually do anything to her. I even gave her the best service on the seventh floor.”
Thud!
Yino suddenly slammed his hand against the tree next to her face, pinning her there.
“Is that so?”
He looked at her coldly. She tried to move to the side, but Yino slammed his other hand down to block her last escape route. As his face moved closer as if he were about to kiss her, she finally dropped her arrogant act.
“Fine! It was my fault! I’m sorry! I won’t use such mean jokes to lie to you again!”
Her face was bright red because Yino was leaning in so close. Once she apologized, his cold expression turned gentle again.
“Hmph. I’ll forgive Xinyao this once.”
He whispered into her ear. The girl’s eyes widened. She puffed out her cheeks and pinched both of his cheeks with her hands.
“Wait, what did you just call me?”
“Xi…nya…ooo.” Yino struggled to speak while his face was being pinched, but he acted like it was nothing.
Xinyao felt even more embarrassed. She took a deep breath and adjusted her hands to pinch his lips together.
“You brat! Even if we aren’t related, I’m still your auntie!”
“Mmph…”
Yino couldn’t talk. He nodded to admit his mistake, and she finally let him go with a huff. Even though she had her revenge, the blush on her face wouldn’t go away. She had always been the auntie he respected. She never expected he would treat her so aggressively because of an outsider!
Yino watched her and reached out to pat her head.
“What? Is Auntie jealous?”
“Jealous?!”
Steam practically rose from her face. She looked at him in disbelief. It had only been a few months, but the boy who used to follow her around had grown up enough to tease his own auntie.
“You little pervert! Your wings have grown strong, haven’t they? You pick up a few girls outside and now you think you can be frivolous with me?!”
She swiped his hand away. Her face was red and round, and even though she tried to look angry, she just looked cute to him. Yino stopped playing around. She tried to grab his collar to teach him a lesson, but he caught her wrists and pinned her against the tree again.
“Maybe you aren’t jealous of me, but I’m jealous of you. From now on, I don’t want the mansion to force you into any more blind dates. I want you to only hold my hand for the rest of your life.”
He whispered into her ear while locking his fingers with hers against the tree. His other hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her close to his chest.
