Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family - Chapter 776: Information overload

Chapter 776: Information overload
“You! And you!” the professor shouted, pointing at both of them.
He took a second of pause before clapping his head, realizing something. “So that’s why—”
Just as he said that, he suddenly clutched his head with both hands.
“URGH! TOO MUCH! MY BRAIN IS HEATING UP!”
Professor Lichtenstein held his head in pain as he began to juggle two topics at once.
First one was obvious, of course, with Michael turning out to be a Natural Maugnetic—something thought only to be as a thing of legends and myths.
Second was Jaku, the demi-human anomaly, who had somehow achieved something no one ever thought was possible: becoming a Maugnetic.
Both of these were intricately tied to the Ancient Era as well as the Modern Era.
Natural Maugnetics were thought to have been extinct ever since the Ancient Era was over.
Meanwhile, a demi-human Maugnetic was something that was only theorized to be possible in the future! They were supposed to be the next step of the evolution for the living beings in this world.
Those two ideas were separated by thousands of years of history, yet they were in parallel to each other. They were two sides of the same coin.
“URGHHH!”
The professor spent his whole life searching for every single piece if clue about the mystery of the world for his entire life.
He was accustomed to only getting a small piece of evidence–a fragment, a shattered piece, or a burned page, that slowly gave him more and more images about what happened in the Ancient Era.
He would never get a clear picture, only a hazy one.
But now, he was looking at two completely intact physical evidences of the mystery of the world in the form of Michael and Jaku.
It was as if the professor had spent his entire life living in a desert, searching for just a tiny drop of water, and now suddenly found himself in the middle of an ocean, drowning.
It was information overload.
“TOO MUCH! TOO MUCH! TOO MUCH!” the professor shouted.
He frantically clutched his head as it pulsated, trying to contain all the neurons firing in his brain.
At first, Michael thought that the professor was just overacting, something that was just part of the professor’s crazy personality.
But then he realized that the professor was actually getting hurt. The pain in his face was real. Not only that, but the Light mana in his brain and skull was in complete disarray. It was bouncing all over the place, having an enormous amount of activity that wasn’t normal at all.
His mana was moving too fast and too chaotically to be considered safe.
“Professor?”
Something was happening to him, and it couldn’t be explained by normal science or magic.
Michael used his Drone and let it hover above the professor, just a mere inch away from him.
And there, he saw the root cause of the problem.
A small piece of Aubility Power had wormed itself into the professor’s brain.
It was subtle. If a normal 1st stage Maugnetic had an Aubility Power thread as thin as a finger, then the one in the professor’s head was even smaller than the width of a hair.
He wouldn’t have even noticed if he wasn’t actively searching for an anomaly.
“What’s going on, professor?” he asked.
But it was at that moment that the thin thread of Aubility Power suddenly expanded outwards, spreading around like vines that clung onto the professor’s neurons.
The professor inwardly gasped, his eyes rolling back, before passing out on the ground, cold.
Michael was alarmed. “Professor Lichtenstein!” he called out.
Thankfully, the professor’s Light mana around his body was still stable, meaning that his health wasn’t in any danger at all.
However, his head was a completely different story.
The Aubility Power threads had completely taken over the professor’s brain, like an overgrown dead tree that grew from the back of his skull.
And because of this strange ’mass’, the professor’s brain activity completely came to a stop, with the neurons’ glow slowly fading before becoming frozen.
His brain was technically dead, yet his body was completely fine.
What’s happening!? Is he alright, Harbinger?
The only other person who could explain this was a Diva.
[Hmmm… this professor of yours is not normal. He’s a crazy son of a bitch.]
What?
Harbinger manifested above Michael’s head, taking control of it.
He moved his mechanical arms and pointed it to the very source of the professor’s problem: the thin thread of Aubility Power that started this all.
[That… is a GodForge piece,] Harbinger revealed.
“WHAT?!” Michael shouted out loud.
He was actually speechless for a second, not knowing how to even process that.
But… but how could a GodForge piece even get to the professor’s brain?
[That’s why I told you he’s insane. How else could it have gotten there if he didn’t put it there himself.]
Michael was completely flabbergasted. Back in his previous life, he had heard of nightmare scenarios in which people performed cosmetic surgery on themselves in order to conform to a certain beauty standard like thicker lips or sharper nose.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that even in this world, people would try to perform surgery on themselves in order to become a Maugnetic. People would do anything to become powerful.
Michael understood that, no matter how crazy it may seem.
However, he couldn’t understand why the professor would put a GodForge piece in his head!
That was literally crazy! There was no reason to put oneself in such extreme danger. It achieved nothing. A GodForge piece only gave power to a person if it was in their heart because it allowed Aubility Power to pulsate and spread throughout their body like blood in the veins.
Michael stared at the professor, wondering if he had really been dealing with a lunatic.
So how do I save him?
No matter how crazy he was, Michael still treated the professor as his friend. He couldn’t just let him die like this.
Can I get the GodForge piece from his brain?
He could beckon the GodForge piece to come towards him just like what he did with Sergio.
But Harbinger advised against it.
[If you want to kill him, then sure. The GodForge piece is what caused him to be in such a critical state. But it’s also what’s keeping him alive.
You have to let whatever…process… it’s currently in and let it do its thing. Interrupting it will only cause more damage.]
Michael bit his lips, feeling guilty. How did this even happen? Is it because of me?
The professor only got to this state because of his discovery of the truth about Michael’s real strength and heritage.
He would have never thought that revealing such a secret would cause such peril for the professor. If he knew, he wouldn’t have revealed all of it at once.
He shook his head. Regret wasn’t going to do anything. The only thing he could do was keep the professor safe and hope that he’d come out safe at the end of all this.
He looked around and saw nothing but the tall pine trees of the Werewolf Forest around him. With the full moon in the night sky, the entire scenery looked peaceful and quiet.
However, this was not a good place for the professor to be.
