Reincarnated as an Energy with a System - Chapter 1776: Princess Shara

Chapter 1776: Princess Shara
The sun finally rose on the horizon, and the day arrived for when the new Emperor would be chosen for the entirety of the Onyx Empire.
People from around the city started making their way to the city as they would be required to vote now. After the debate yesterday, most people, if not all, had made a choice on who they were going to vote for.
Everyone had now more or less learned about the fights last night. They had heard various screams throughout the city as people died all over the place. They were surprised there weren’t many bodies around at all.
They could only wonder how quickly all those deaths had been cleaned up.
The people arrived at the palace and waited outside for the gates to open. As people piled up, an individual walked out of the gates, looking as if he was lacking sleep, but still held his head up high as he spoke to the masses.
“It is decided that there will be no voting done,” the man said. “Your Emperor will be decided through another method. You may stay or leave as you wish.”
The man turned around and walked in.
The citizens were confused for a while, rightfully so, and as the confusion grew, their frustrations did too.
“What’s going on?”
“We came here to vote.”
“Let us vote for our new Emperor.”
“You fucking liars!”
“The Golhlog bloodline should just die.”
“I curse your seven generations.”
“Give us Empress Shara!”
A large protest started out at the start of the palace after that. These people knew they had lost and that there was absolutely nothing they could physically do to make things happen.
What was happening was certainly unfair, but that was to be expected as they were now being occupied by an opposing army. They were just angry that when a sliver of light showed in their dark future, these people moved to fill that light with more darkness.
The crowd protested for a while before they stopped one by one, turning around to look at some different sounds that came from the back.
People began moving aside and everyone quickly made way for a group of big men with strong builds who walked up to the town square. They quickly saw the people at the forefront of this huge group of armies and noticed who they were.
“It’s her!”
“She’s here.”
“It’s Princess Shara!”
It was unclear who was the first one to call her that name, but as soon as the person said as much, everyone copied him. Soon, they all began saying it.
“Princess Shara!”
“Princess Shara!”
“Princess Shara!”
“Princess Shara!”
Shara felt slightly uncomfortable at all the attention. She was even more uncomfortable because they were not just curious about who she was now. Now, everyone had certain expectations of her.
“What… what do I do?” she whispered to her right.
Mari looked all around. “Just turn your head toward them and smile. All they need to know is that you are looking out for them.”
Shara nodded ever so slightly and did as she was told. She looked on either side, giving the faintest of smiles.
That was enough to make everyone cheer for her even more.
They reached the palace gates, and the guards outside seemed very nervous about what they were supposed to do. Should they let them in? But then, how could they do that knowing that there were so many Undead?
To their surprise, a voice boomed through the air, giving the order.
“Come on in, Princess Shara,” the prince’s voice came from inside.
The gates opened.
Shara walked in with not just Ning and the soldiers, but also the Undead. At this moment, even they were surprised why they were allowed in so easily.
Not all Undead could be taken in, so most of them had to stay outside. Still, the number of Undead that were taken in was nearly enough to fill the entire front yard of the palace.
Ning looked around after entering to see what was going on. He tried searching for ballot boxes where the people would be voting for them, but as they had expected, the votes were out of the question now.
“So, they really did get rid of the votes,” Matthew said. “I expected as much, and somehow I’m still disappointed.”
“They’re just going back on their words with no shame now,” Mari said. “If the voting system is gone, then have they prepared a new system or what?”
Since the coalition had both failed in assassinating Shara and failed to get rid of the main force that made Shara a threat — the Undead — it was clear that they wouldn’t stick to the voting system at all.
That would be quite stupid of the three to do since the winner was more or less already decided.
They also seemed to know that they couldn’t put fake votes in the ballots, since Ning’s group would be on the lookout for that.
’But to entirely throw out any goodwill they had with the citizens,’ Ning thought. ’It appears they are not bothering to hide themselves anymore.’
He now wanted to see just what they had planned.
A group of people walked out of the palace, which included the Prince, Jema, and Oleander. A few other people surrounded them, but those three were the main folks that anyone cared about.
“We were going to inform you about the cancellation of today’s event, but we couldn’t find where you were to deliver the message,” the prince said.
“I’m sure if you wanted to send us the information, you would have found a way,” Shara said before anyone else could speak. “I see that I have scared you into ditching the idea of choosing an Emperor through votes.”
The prince didn’t give in to her bait and remained smiling.
“We were going to continue with voting, but it seems new information has surfaced, so we must make some changes,” the prince said. “From henceforth, you can no longer be a candidate to become the Emperor of this empire.”
