Reincarnated as an Energy with a System - Chapter 1850: Don’t Say Anything

Chapter 1850: Don’t Say Anything
Ning flew back to the top of the roof where Larissa lay huddled up in the corner and checked on her. The effect of the vampire lady’s ability still affected her psyche, but since she hadn’t done anything bad like the drows had, she should be fine after a bit of rest.
He left the roof with her and placed her on the sidewalk before heading over to the masses to help them take unconscious men away. It was a few minutes before enough room had been created for the firefighters to reach the wreckage that was Ning’s apartment and put out the fire.
The fire had spread to the other apartments too, but not much of them had been destroyed, and the people in there had long since evacuated, so they were safe.
The police arrived later and started questioning everyone.
Ning walked up to them and explained everything that had happened there to a certain degree. He told them that his apartment was shot with a bazooka and that he knocked them all out as they were growing violent. There had been enough bystanders to verify his words.
He was still asked to come with them to the station to give full details on what had happened. After letting the cops know that a detective had been affected too and pointing to Larissa, he went with them.
On the way to the station, he pulled out his phone that he thankfully had on his person and thought of someone to call. After some thought, he called Blake. He was the person he had to go to for any and all situations.
Blake accepted the call on the third ring. “Sir Valen, am I needed for something?” he asked.
“Uh, yes. Do you know of a place I can stay at for a while?” Ning asked. “My place blew up.”
“Huh?” the man on the other side took a moment to understand what was being said. “Wait, your house blew up?”
“Yeah. Someone came and shot a bazooka at the house while I was inside,” Ning said. “Not to worry, I’m fine, but I will be needing a place to stay. And… there are a few more things I might have to talk to you about tomorrow in regards to things I did today.”
“Where are you? Are you home? I will come right away!” Blake said.
“I’m on my way to the station with the cops,” Ning said. “I should arrive there in about 10 minutes.”
“I’ll meet you at the station. Do not answer any of their questions without me present,” the man shouted before turning off the call.
Ning called another number afterwards, but Ragnar, the chief, didn’t pick up his direct line. ’He must not be at work,’ he thought. It was quite late, after all.
Ning thought of calling Mira and Jack to let them know what had happened, but those two fools would still be drunk and delirious. They would have to find everything out tomorrow through the news while their brains were hammered away by their hangovers.
He arrived at the station some time later and walked in with the cops. He sat down, and the cops looked him up, only to be surprised that he was a former detective himself, currently working as a counselor for the homicide division.
“Do you know why they targeted you?” the cops asked him. “Why would someone bring a bazooka to your house? Did you get into trouble with some gang or mafia?”
“No,” Ning said. “As I explained earlier, those men were not thinking right. They weren’t themselves. That’s why I only knocked them out and did nothing more.”
“But there had to be a reason, right?” the cop asked. “Can you think of something you may have done?”
Ning was about to shake his head when the blond-haired angel came rushing through the door.
“Do not answer anything,” he shouted, Melly following behind him in tow. She had a disheveled look, as though she had left her house without taking a second to go over her looks.
Blake, on the other hand, looked as pristine as he had earlier during the day.
As soon as she reached him, her lifeless demeanor changed, and she took over as the lawyer. “My client will not be answering any of your questions,” she said.
“Ma’am, we’re just trying to find out what happened,” the cop said.
“I’m sure you can find it some other way. My client will not be answering,” Melly said. “If he is not being charged with anything, I will be taking him away.”
The cop wanted to protest, but there was nothing else he could do but let him go until someone higher up took a look at the case.
Melly practically dragged Ning away, taking him out to a car that waited outside.
“You didn’t say anything, right?” she asked.
“Only the parts that everyone saw. There was no point in hiding those,” Ning said. “But don’t worry. I didn’t say anything that could incriminate me.”
“You shouldn’t have spoken until we came,” Blake said. “Are you alright? You said your house blew up. What was it, a faulty gas line?”
“More like a bazooka,” Ning said with a laugh.
The two next to him looked at him with wide eyes. “Why… why would someone hit your house with a bazooka?” Blake asked.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ning asked, his voice lowering. “It’s because they wanted to kill me.”
“Who would want to kill you?” Melly asked. “Have you already made enemies?”
“It seems so,” Ning said. “Me gaining my powers has made me enemies of a certain group that I know nothing about. Today’s incident was the doing of one of their members.”
“What… exactly happened?” Blake asked.
“You’ll learn it in the news soon,” Ning said.
“And this enemy of yours? Anything happened to him?” Melly asked.
“She,” he clarified, “is dead.”
The two looked at him in shock.
“Let’s get in the car. I’ll give you the whole spiel on what happened.”
