Reincarnated as an Energy with a System - Chapter 1854: Open House

Chapter 1854: Open House
Three days later, Ning’s flight license was finally approved.
The centaur judge shook his hand as he happily gave him the news. “I’ve never seen someone with so much speed and yet so much control in my life. Are you sure you only awakened a few days ago, sir?”
Ning gave a beaming smile. “Thank you for the compliment. And thank you for being the judge.”
“It was a pleasure to. I’ll see you around.”
Ning nodded and left.
Blake stood underneath a small tent meant for bystanders. He waited for Ning to arrive before standing and clapping a little. “Congratulations on passing the test.”
“Thanks. Now I won’t need others to drive me around,” Ning said and watched Blake carefully for any sign of reaction. The man showed none, as if having to drive Ning around for the past few days hadn’t been troubling.
“The open house starts in half an hour. Should we leave?” Blake asked.
Ning gave up on trying to get the man to feel exasperated and nodded. “Let’s go.”
While Ning was supposed to receive 20 million Jorans as a signing bonus from the agency, he didn’t get all of it. Some went to tax, handled by the agency for him, and some went to a trust fund that Ning had set up to help with charities and whatnot that he might want to support later on.
Nothing had been touched yet, but it now held a full 8 million Jorans after taxes, leaving Ning with 4 million. Ning didn’t want a house that cost more than half of it, if even that.
The open houses they went to check that day were modern designs, seemingly built specifically for rich youths who wanted to show off more than anything. Those houses were meant to do nothing more than stroke their own egos.
Ning cared very little for those houses. He went around a few more and, in the end, fell in love with a small house of no more than four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, and a lounge area. There was a swimming pool in the backyard and enough space for a small private garden.
The house was old, previously owned by a wood elf couple who had lived there until the wife died and the husband left to stay with their children, who now took care of him.
The house was thus being sold.
Ning liked the house. It had a history and a warmth to it that he couldn’t explain. It was also more in the suburban area of the city, making him like it quite a lot more.
“If you want, we can look at something better,” Blake whispered in his ear as they walked around. “This house is a little old and—”
“No, I like it,” Ning said. “In fact, I think I’ll take it.”
Blake stared at him for a moment, trying to see if he was serious. Once he saw Ning’s determined look, he nodded.
“I’ll have some people come and take a look at the house tomorrow, see if there are things we’re being lied to about regarding its state. Once we’ve confirmed that, we can proceed with negotiations,” Blake said.
Ning agreed to that.
“Let’s get this done within the week if possible,” Ning said. “While the hotel room is nice, I would like a place that’s my own.”
“I’ll take care of everything, don’t worry,” Blake said. “You should just make sure you’re in your best condition for tomorrow. We can’t afford to mess up a single thing during the test.”
Ning couldn’t help but find it funny how nervous Blake was. Since tomorrow was the day of his Hero license test, he had to make sure he didn’t make any mistakes that could fail him.
Many of the agency’s plans depended on it.
Once Ning was done with the open houses, he left with Blake. He still had to rely on him for the day to take him places since his physical flying license card wasn’t created yet. That would come tomorrow.
Blake was ready to take Ning back to the hotel, but Ning wanted to stop by the station. He bought a few boxes of donuts on the way and passed them along to the officers at the station.
“Fancy a donut?” Ning asked as he arrived next to Mira.
Mira turned around. “Sir Valen? Ooh, you got chocolate!” She picked out the donut and ate it, only belatedly questioning why there was a donut.
“I got my flying license,” Ning said with an excited smile. “Great, right?”
“Oh! Really?” Mira asked.
“That’s great,” Larissa said as she walked up from behind them, tossing a stack of documents on her table. “Now you won’t need me to be a chauffeur. Or that man.”
Blake stood far away by the door, refusing to walk in.
“He’s happy too,” Ning said before presenting the box to Larissa.
“I’m not hungry. You can keep it in the resting room.”
Ning nodded, placing it to the side for now.
“Find out if any of these men in these reports have any correlation to the woman in the investigation room. The earlier, the better,” Larissa tasked Mira.
“New case?” Ning asked.
“The wife kills her husband at night,” Larissa said. “Next morning, she confesses to the crime. Only, we can’t find her fingerprints anywhere on the murder weapon.”
“Was it wiped clean?” Ning asked.
“Maybe, but we found out she had been cheating on her husband for a long time, and now we’re trying to find out who that may be. The forensics say that the stab wound on the victim is far too deep to come from a frail woman like her.”
“Ah, you think a lover is involved.”
“It’s almost a guarantee. Just have to find out who it is. The neighbors claim they saw some men coming and going from their apartment, so I brought over a list of every man that comes in contact with the woman. Hopefully, Mira will find out some similarities from them, and we can go canvassing the neighbors again. See if they recognize them.”
