Reincarnated Hero System - Chapter 1157 - 1157: Coincidence?

With the aid of one of the Teleportation Waypoints in the Sandfire Palace, Evan’s group, now joined by Bianca, warped to the Rigburn Region’s Farsa Station City, where they boarded the train that the Deadly Sin Siblings and Kayla were already on, headed for Plaham Station City, the last stop before Tarse’s White Sand Desert, where Dragondune was located.
The route required them to pass through one of Tarse’s ‘Dunes,’ Meekdune, a place scattered with the ruins of ancient cities that had collapsed after their oases dried up, depriving the inhabitants of water.
“Sure, I expected Emperor Lloris to be cooperative, but I didn’t expect him to be this cooperative,” Evan said as he watched the train gradually come to a stop in front of them.
They were in the VIP section of the station, and the train that had arrived was reserved solely for Evan’s companions.
The Emperor of Tarse had provided one of the finest trains, comparable to his own personal train, for Evan’s team to use when travelling through regions without teleportation waypoints.
This was how Laurene, Eliza, the Deadly Sin siblings, and occasionally Paladins and Holy Knights had been able to move across Tarse, dealing with energy hotspots and completing other tasks Evan had left to them when he had been sent back in time.
“Considering your track record, it’s only natural he’s this cooperative, don’t you think?” Laurene remarked as she stepped into the familiar train, and Evan followed, replying, “True, I do have a track record of being a pain in the behind for the Demonic Hand.”
It was precisely Evan’s track record, having handled the incidents in Lacertilia and Cheverton with minimal casualties compared to how many lives would have been lost if those Disasters had struck those nations unprepared, that made Emperor Lloris willing to assist him in dealing with the Demonic Hand, despite how much information Evan still withheld.
Bianca followed with a sigh, and as soon as Evan stepped inside, admiring the train’s interior, a streak of lightning darted toward him.
He opened his arms, catching Kayla as she hugged him tightly. Patting her head lightly, he said, “You’re a lot clingier than I expected. Also, please stop glaring at her.”
He muttered the second part to Eliza, who was giving Kayla a dangerous look, but she didn’t respond, simply moving past them and heading deeper into the train.
Evan sighed, lifting Kayla, who had transformed to her cat form, in his arms and walked further to where the Deadly Sin siblings were.
Upon arriving, he was met by another familiar face, Cheisnih, the ‘Spider Nemesis’.
“Sup, Cheisnih,” he said, holding up his palm.
She returned the gesture, and after a brief high five, he turned to someone who hadn’t been present when he’d spoken with his companions in Gerfast earlier.
His third contracted spirit, Milena.
“Nice to see you again, Evan,” she greeted calmly, and at this, Evan shook his head with a sigh.
“You know, Milena, I sometimes forget that you’re actually my contracted spirit and not Nadarus’, given how much time you spend with him.”
Milena blinked at his words, adopting a pensive look for a moment before saying, “Well, since you forget, I might as well move over to him. I’ve taken a liking to seeing how he scams people.”
“Excuse me?” Nadarus interrupted, looking up from his crossword puzzle. “I don’t scam people. I simply make them offers they can’t refuse.”
“Sure. Let’s go with that,” Milena responded, not even taking her eyes off Evan, who chuckled at the exchange and shook his head.
“Nah, I like the little buff to my Ice Attribute your existence gives me, so I’d very much like us to remain contracted. You can do whatever you want with him, though.”
At that, Milena raised an eyebrow, scrutinising Evan before asking, “Do you even need the buff at your current level?”
Somehow, she seemed able to tell that Evan had become much more powerful despite his near-perfect concealment, and at her question, Evan replied matter-of-factly, “It’s a percentage buff, Milena. Of course, I need it.”
Turning around, he continued, “And while we’re on the topic of contracts, I want to renew mine with you, Roselia, and Nadarus.
Since our contracts had a level-sharing clause and there’s now a disparity in our levels, the contracts are dormant. Being able to utilise your powers is extremely convenient, and I don’t want to lose that, just like I don’t want to lose the convenience of using the powers of my contracted spirits.”
He stepped forward, entering Cheisnih’s shadow and dropping into it like it was a pit before emerging from the shadow of a nearby couch, where he sat down and added, “They’re pretty damn useful.”
Evan’s contracts with Kayla, Kuro, and Milena shared EXP and Levels, as did those with Roselia and Nadarus.
Leviah’s contract with him was more of a business-type agreement, providing no direct benefit to Evan, so there was no issue there.
Now that Evan was level 900 and they were still in the 600s, the contracts remained dormant, except for Kuro’s, which he had renewed while they were waiting for the train. Unless the contract terms were restated, they would stay dormant until their levels caught up to his, so he needed to renew them now, since that was going to take quite some time.
The renewal process took only a few minutes since both parties already knew what to do. Once it was done, Evan turned to Bianca, who had been silently sitting in a corner.
“Bianca, I’ve been meaning to ask, how did you deal with Felicia?”
“I’m curious as well,” Laurene added, taking her gaze off the magic catalyst in her hands and moving it to the Celestial Dragon.
After appraising Bianca, neither Evan nor Laurene could find any skill or ability in her status that explained how she had managed to stop Felicia from taking over her body.

Her skills focused on Glass and Mirror Manipulation, along with Light Magic that complemented those abilities.
Evan figured her innate Glass Manipulation Abilities and Unique Skill were what led to her gaining the Mystic Eyes of Reflection, but that was beside the point.
For now, what mattered was how she had stopped her predecessor’s attempt to take over her body when the Mystic Eyes awakened.
In Evan’s case, Arlan Maddox had succeeded in destabilising Evansen’s soul and would have taken control of the body if Artemisia hadn’t intervened and placed Evankhell within it instead.
In Laurene’s case, the Mental Block skill Artemisia had given her without her knowing had prevented the attack meant to disrupt her soul, keeping Yvonne from forcing her out.
Now, they turned the question to Bianca, who responded calmly.
“My mother’s magic spared me from that unfortunate fate.
Since she was sending me to the Sandfire Palace to spend my early years, she made sure I was well protected, even when she wasn’t physically present.
When I was seven, I was almost kidnapped, something arranged by a Regional Chief who no longer walks the surface of this world. The kidnapper they hired used mirror magic, and to take me away, they sealed me inside a mirror.
That incident caused my skills to awaken, and with them came my Mystic Eyes.”
It was clear that exposure to a similar kind of magic had acted as the stimulus that triggered the awakening of her innate glass and mirror magic capabilities.
Bianca twirled a few shards of glass between her fingers, dissolving them into magic as she continued speaking.
“My mother had layered me with several protective spells of different kinds, from barriers that prevented physical harm to those that interfered with spiritual attacks.
They weren’t powerful enough to completely block the spiritual attack that almost destabilised my soul, but they delayed its effects long enough and alerted my mother that something was wrong.
My memory of what happened after that is hazy, but I know she was the one who, through her power, suppressed the attack long enough for the window of opportunity Felicia had to close, causing her soul to be lost.”
After this short narration, Evan raised his hand like a student in class and asked, “You awakened at age seven?”
At his question, Laurene immediately turned to him with a deadpan look and asked, “Evan, is that really what concerns you about this? Are we just going to ignore the fact that the kidnappers had someone with magic powerful enough to seal someone inside a mirror?”
Turning his gaze to Laurene, Evan shook his head and said, “No, Laurene, that’s actually not the most important part. What’s truly important is that her mother’s magic was strong enough to stop that spiritual attack.
We all know the circumstances behind that thing, so why doesn’t it sound crazy to you? That thing was an attack empowered by a Pseudo-Authority of Reincarna…”
Evan trailed off mid-sentence, his eyes widening as realisation dawned on him. He clicked his tongue, pressing his fingers against his temple as he muttered, “Ain’t this a bit too coincidental, Mr Author?”
“Huh?”
“What are you on about?”
Both Bianca and Laurene looked at him in confusion, but he dismissed their curiosity with a wave of his hand.
“It’s nothing serious,” he said. “It’s just… I’ve been talking about killing three birds with one stone so much that it actually happened. I really did kill three birds with one stone.”
Without explaining further, he turned back to Bianca and said, “Thankfully, your mother cared enough to blanket you with enough protective magic to block Felicia’s spiritual attack.
If that hadn’t been the case… well, ‘Aidos’ would’ve needed to choose a new Hero.”
He said the last part with a shrug, leaning back in his chair as he went on. “That makes three of our predecessors who are gone for good.”
At that, Bianca raised her hand and counted on her fingers before looking at Evan with a questioning expression. “Three, not four?”
On the Alpha Continent, there were four identified Heroes—Evan, Laurene, David, and Bianca.
That should have meant four of their predecessors were gone, but Evan had said three. When Bianca asked about it, Laurene opened her palm, and with a bright flash of light, an orb appeared.
