Reincarnated Hero System - Chapter 1216 - 1216: A Meeting in the Park I

The park stretched wide and open beneath the afternoon sky, its paved paths winding between trimmed lawns and clusters of old trees that cast broad patches of shade.
Benches were scattered along the walkways, some occupied and others empty, while the sound of passing footsteps, soft laughter, and the constant rhythm of people coming and going made the place feel alive.
Rosaline was sitting on the bench in the middle of the busy park, watching the many pet owners as they went about with their pets, most of which were domestic cats and dogs.
She glanced toward one corner and saw a cat playing with catnip, and when her gaze moved elsewhere, she noticed a dog running after a frisbee thrown by its owner’s children, who clapped excitedly.
With her striking beauty, she naturally had quite a few men approach to speak with her, but one glare from the grey-furred wolf that looked like he was sleeping in her lap sent them hurrying away before they could say a word.
Rosaline didn’t pay any of it much attention, instead quietly observing the different kinds of people that filled the park.
It was during this quiet observation of hers that one of the park security officers came up to her from behind and sat down at the other end of the bench she was on.
Immediately, the wolf resting on her lap opened his eyes and glanced toward the uniformed officer. He watched the man in silence for a few seconds before Rosaline lifted a hand to pat his head, prompting him to lower it again and close his eyes.
The moment the wolf’s eyes closed, the uniformed man gulped, a breath of relief escaping him as he began to speak.
“Lady Keasa—”
“Get to the point,” Rosaline said, cutting him off without even looking his way, her neon grey eyes focused on how the fur of a havanese dog bounced as it moved.
The man remained silent for a moment, clearly surprised by how quickly he’d been interrupted, but he quickly recollected himself.
“Lord First wishes to speak with you,” he said.
Barely a second after the words left his mouth, the man’s expression went blank, and when he blinked, the brown eyes that had been there before his eyelids closed turned a light green colour.
He turned his gaze toward Rosaline, his eyes narrowing slightly as he spoke in a demanding tone.
“Where were you all this time? And why didn’t you report your departure and return?”
“I don’t recall having any obligation to inform you of my whereabouts,” Rosaline replied calmly, continuing to pet the wolf in her lap without sparing the man a glance.
Before he could retort, Rosaline lifted her right hand and waved it lightly in front of his face as she added, “If you wanted me to report my location, you know what to do.”
“I won’t use a Command Mark for something so—!”
He cut himself off mid-sentence, brows furrowing deeply with annoyance.
Naturally, the one speaking through the Demonic Hand member disguised as park security was none other than the First Finger of the Demonic Hand, the man Evan called ‘Ferrid’, and after decades of dealing with Rosaline, he understood well enough that getting angry with her served no purpose.
The Command Marks that granted him control over her were limited in number, and Rosaline never passed up a chance to provoke him into wasting them.
She had no desire to be part of the Demonic Hand, after all. That much was evident from the fact that he’d been forced to expend one of those marks to make her his subordinate all those years ago.
28 years ago, the previous ‘Second Finger’ of the Demonic Hand was killed by the Dragon Lord Altrishia, not long after the Graugro Undead Disaster orchestrated by Dominik Velak, and the position had been filled temporarily by one of the First Division Senior Members since he couldn’t find anyone else suitable.
But later, while he was putting together the plan for the ‘Wolf of the END’ Disaster, Rosaline, who had originally been a member of the Second Division, became a Legendary, and Ferrid decided to place her in the position because of how essential she was to the plan, allowing him to add her as a target of rebirth for his ‘Child of Reincarnation’ Skill, which cost him another Command Mark since Rosaline naturally refused.
Unfortunately, he’d made an error in how the order was worded, forcing him to spend yet another Command Mark to make Rosaline the one overseeing the ‘Wolf of the END’ disaster, placing her in a role where her efficiency in gathering energy for the World Formation during the Disaster would be at its highest.
Originally, she’d only intended to drop the wolf and then dip, returning once the wolf was finished wreaking his havoc.
Ferrid took a deep breath to calm his agitation, then leaned back in his seat as he continued in his cold voice, completely ignoring Rosaline’s taunt.
“Not only did you fail to inform anyone of your departure during a critical period, the same time when I told you that you’d need to carry out an important mission to eliminate a potential threat, but when you returned, you also failed to notify anyone and instead went straight to the Alpha Continent to speak with none other than the one child who’s been the biggest pain in the behind for us these past few years.”
The moment Ferrid said this, Rosaline raised a finger and replied, “Correction, the biggest pain in the behind to you for the past few years. He is not a pain in the behind to me.
In fact, yesterday was the first time I met him and spoke to him, and it was quite a pleasant chat.”
When she said this calmly, Ferrid’s eyes narrowed.
“Rosaline…”
He called her name in a warning tone, and she turned toward him with a neutral expression before asking, “My name? Is there something you wish to say, Mr Ferrid?”
“You did not say anything you were not supposed to, did you?”
At Ferrid’s question, Rosaline blinked, and her eyes seemed to glimmer faintly as she lifted a palm to cover her mouth.
“Oh my, you seem to be quite curious about the contents of my conversation with Mr Evan. Well then, why don’t you use your skill to find out? You can manipulate fate and practically read the past and future, can you not?”
Her lips curled into a taunting grin, and as Ferrid’s brow twitched, she continued, “Oh my, my apologies. I forgot. Last I checked, Mr Evan is just like me, an Irregular. Or rather, we’re called Singularities outside this planet, aren’t we?
Our existences, as embodiments of errors in the universe, distort the natural flow of the laws of knowledge and causality.
If I recall correctly, while your skill is primarily one of fate law manipulation, the calculations it performs, using the information it reads through the law of fate to determine future outcomes, rely on the laws of knowledge and causality. Cause and effect cannot simply be ignored when it comes to fate manipulation, can they?”
Rosaline’s smile was bright by the time she finished speaking, making it blatantly obvious that she was thoroughly enjoying irritating Ferrid right now.
“No wonder you always seemed blind whenever Mr Evan entered the picture. You could never figure out what he was up to. Whenever he gets involved, your plans always seem to go awry.
Your skill simply does not work on him.”
She chuckled softly afterwards, shaking her head as she thought to herself, ‘I suppose this is fate’s own cruel joke toward him.
The same skill he relies on to read the past, predict the future, and plan his moves with the lowest possible chance of failure simply doesn’t function against the one person who is undeniably his greatest obstacle to achieving whatever goals he’s harbouring in that head of his.’
Rosaline knew from her parents that Ferrid’s fate manipulation skill was absurdly powerful, powerful enough that, at his full power, before he took the oath that now limited his Existence Level, Ferrid had been capable of seeing the fate of Aidos after the war that occurred a thousand years ago, even before that war had begun.
According to Rosaline’s mother, when what she referred to as the ‘Dimensional Rift Experiments’ first started, Ferrid had been the first person to vehemently oppose them, for a reason she did not understand until he later revealed his fate manipulation skill during the events of the war.
She later learned, from things the younger Ferrid had let slip, that he’d seen the ‘fate’ of Aidos after the war, all the way through to the formation of the original Demonic Hand, an organisation that the previous Seven Heroes had thoroughly crushed.
However, for reasons that neither Rosaline’s parents nor Rosaline herself understood, Ferrid had revived that organisation and now led it, working to bring back the same demons he’d once helped force off the planet more than a thousand years ago.
