- Chapter 1550 1550: Undine's Past

Aquarina sat over the rooftop of her house, glancing at the starry night sky in silence. This is something she would do whenever she didn’t feel completely exhausted about her day, she would spend quite a lot of time just watching the stars, the horizon, and thinking about her friends, about Sylphy, and all the other people she missed.
This world was truly vast, and full of all kinds of mysteries. This was something that Aquarina would always think about as she glanced at the starry night, the moon, and the stars beyond the cosmos.
Hell, even the universe was big, the different planets where all these other races came from, even the Gods.
It was an endless, infinite ocean of colors and life…
It made the world seem small, actually, despite how she always thought it was also vast.
But this helped her think that her friends weren’t too far away.
That they were right around the corner, somewhere, fighting and training like she did.
Waiting for the day they can finally regroup, together, as a big group, the family they became as they grew up together.
These memories they shared together… everything.
“Sylphy…”
Aquarina started to feel a bit annoyed over the “rule” of not using long-distance communication devices for this trip.
It was approved by their parents because if the children constantly kept contact with one another while missing each other, they would never be able to fully immerse and concentrate in the training they had to go through.
“Still thinking about her tonight too?”
Undine appeared by her side, materializing from a mass of water that emerged out of nowhere, sitting by her side.
She was much smaller than her, but actually much older than Aquarina.
“Yes… There’s not a day I don’t think about her,” said Aquarina. “Once we’re finally done and I met her again I’m going to kiss her all over her cute face…! She owes me a million kisses…”
“Hahah, I guess Sylphy might be thinking something similar,” Undine giggled. “Ah, young love is sure something, huh? Been a while since I ever felt love.”
“You did?” Aquarina wondered. “Wait, now that I think about it, what was your life like before you met me as a kid?”
“Well, I was born a few hundred years ago…” said Undine. “I was living in water, of course. Moving from river to river, sometime staying in the lakes. But I never gave the big step to the ocean, I always found it quite scary.”
“Did you make friends?” Aquarina asked.
“Yes, a few,” nodded Undine. “I had a couple of masters before you too! did you know?”
“Eh?! Really…?” Aquarian was surprised. “How were they like? Were they better than me or worse?”
“Two of them were children like you, and the other three were adults. A grumpy old fisherman, a housewife that always washed clothes in the river, and a hunter that always followed the river.”
“Were they Amazonians too?” asked Aquarina.
“Some were, others weren’t… I liked that jungle a lot though, very peaceful place…” Undine nodded. “I miss… my previous masters a bit, sometimes.”
“Oh…” Aquarina quickly realized that her spirit was much deeper than she ever imagined.
That she lived a very long life, had many masters, and saw them pass away one after another… realizing her life to be so much longer, while the friends she made along the way died one after another.
Aquarina lowered her head, feeling a bit sorry about what Undine had gone through, but she couldn’t bring herself to say much, she has never been a very emotional girl that’s good with words to make others feel better like Sylphy.
Yet…
Maybe the Sylphy inside her heart made her be a bit bolder about these things.
“What were they like?” she wondered. “Who were your first masters?”
“Hm? Ah…” Undine looked surprised Aquarina was interested, she always looked like a girl focused on just the stuff ahead of herself. “Well… my first master was a child. A boy. It was back then when I had been just born. He made a contract with me by accident, he was a human from a little village near a river. His name… his name was…”
“Undine?”
“I… don’t remember his name anymore…” Undine sighed, looking very depressed. “But I will never forget his cute face, and his smile. It was the first smile I saw, the first happiness I created. I remember… he belonged to a small village that was always short on water, so they sent him and other kids to fetch for water. The surprise of his parents when they discovered he could conjure water magic was… really quite something. With my help, he was able to bring water to the village with ease, and everyone was happy.”
“Hey, that’s nice,” Aquarina smiled happily.
“Yeah… It wasn’t… anything remarkable, another person,” said Undine. “He wasn’t an adventurer, he wasn’t that good of a hunter either, he was only a farmer at best, and… a good father.”
“Father?”
“I guess… I guess I did see him as my father, he grew up so much faster than me,” said Undine. “He taught me how to talk, how to read, and many other things… he always took care of me and was… he was so nice.”
“…” Aquarina glanced at Undine, realizing the person she had made a contract with. “Undine… You’re…?”
“Ah?” Undine tilted her head, as she noticed she was crying. “S-Sorry… I didn’t mean to scare you, I’m not sad… I’m just… whenever I remember him, and whenever I remember him passing away on his bed, surrounded by his family… I just can’t stop. I remember that back then I thought he was only sleeping, and I slept by his side for days. I tried to stop them when they buried him, and I kept visiting the people to tell them that he needed to be unburied and taken out of the dirt… I was so dumb, and they couldn’t even see me anyways. Hahaha…”
Undine looked at the stars, remembering that time.
When her first master breathed his last.
“Undine… Let’s go to sleep… Shall… we?”
These were his last words, as the old grandpa caressed her little head, before closing his eyes.
“Okay… master… let’s sleep.”
She cuddled with him, for days after days.
“Master? You’re still sleeping?”
He wouldn’t wake up.
“Master? They covered you on clothes… are you okay?”
They began to bury him.
“Hey! S-Stop… master is sleeping! Why are you doing this?”
They placed a grave on top of the ground where he had been buried.
“Master…? Are you okay down there? I’ll get you out!”
She kept trying so hard…
But to no avail.
“Why… why did master went to sleep forever? It doesn’t make sense…”
Undine looked down, remembering how dumb and innocent she was back then.
Aquarina smiled lightly, hugging Undine.
“Hey, at least he lived a good life, right?” Aquarina said. “I think you contributed to that beautiful life he had… I would say. He might’ve only lived as long as a normal person but… you’ll live for eternity maybe. So as long as you live, he’ll live… um, within your heart and stuff. Like Sylphy would say.”
“Hah… Hahaha!” Undine giggled, cleaning her tears. “You’re really having a hard time talking like this, huh?”
“H-Hey! Don’t tease me!” Aquarina complained, blushing in embarrassment.
But Undine nodded, patting her hands.
“You’re right…” she said. “Thank you Aquarina…”
“Ah, don’t worry about it,” Aquarina smiled, winking at her. “Alright! Shall we go have some shuteye? I’m tired! Let’s go nap.”
“Yeah…”
Undine cuddled over Aquarina, as her master allowed her to sleep with her for this night, something she usually didn’t.
“Master…”
Aquarina’s warm chest made Undine recall her first master’s warmth as well.
And she had placid dreams.
