- Chapter 1634 1634: Slimes And Goos

—–
Like that, after Agua talked about the Goo, a species of slime-like monsters, the group made their way through the jungles into this new spot. They had already spent several hours wandering around, and the sun was already beginning to set on the horizon.
Soon the night would arrive, and the ritual to call upon the spirit would come. Aquarina was growing curious about her parents, whom she hadn’t detected their presences at all, it seemed they had yet to come back from the dungeon.
They walked around several rocky cliffs at the borders of the Crater-shaped sanctuary, which was actually an ancient, now extinct volcano. On the way there, they found quite a lot of beautiful views, standing over these tall rocky cliffs while overseeing the jungles and the oasis was quite the sight.
“Wooah! We’re so high! I can’t believe it!” Silvia was amazed, as Justicio carried her piggyback.
“We walked down from over there, where there’s a lot of sand so its easy… but I never realized how deep this crater was.” Justicio pointed into the distance.
There was a large dune that went down into the jungle from the northeast section of the crater. This was where most people used to walk into the area.
“And where are the goos at?” Silvia asked.
“It’s a risky place but it’s over there, I think we can access through a floating bubble…” Agua said. “Come on, follow me!”
They went through a few other cliffs and long, thin corridors above the skies. They came across large nests of birds with huge eggs, Aquarina felt tempted at taking a few, but Agua stopped her.
Sometimes they would pass through a wall full of holes, where Sky Eels had made their home, they would come out the moment someone passed through, with their large jaws and long necks, trying to snap them out.
Aquarina and her friends easily disposed of a couple that tried to eat them, the rest of the Sky Eels’ holes weren’t close enough for them to attempt eating them.
They were generally not the strongest monsters out there at Tier 4, so the EXP wasn’t even worth a level, unfortunately.
However, Sky Eel meat was delicious.
“I guess we’re having Sky Eel for dinner!” Said Aquarina with a happy smile, storing the four monsters inside her Shadow.
“Do we really need to eat everything we hunt?” Silvia asked. “Wait, you don’t plan on eating the ants right?”
“Hmm, I mean… Kind of,” said Aquarina. “They got big legs right? I bet if you boil them they got some tasty meat inside. We should try them!”
“E-Eeh?!” Silvia felt disgusted. “But that’s disgusting!”
“I mean, aren’t crabs and lobster bugs from the sea?” Justicio asked. “Come on what’s the big difference? I’ll try them for once… I mean I’ve assimilated bug parts into my body and all, so it shouldn’t be that different.”
“F-Fire Ant meat? I wonder if it tastes good?” Agua wondered. “But they sure looked hideouts outside, so I don’t know…”
“We’ll try how they are later then,” Aquarina giggled. “So where was it?”
“We’re here…” Agua looked into the distance. “See that cave over there? Usually someone would jump from there, but I use magic and-“
As Agua pointed to the cave at the end of another cliff nearby that wasn’t connected by any sort of bridge, her friends all jumped over there with ease.
“Heeey! Come on!”
Aquarina called for her from the opposite side.
“Well… I shouldn’t have even worried…”
She went through using her Bubble Spell that helped her float in midair for a couple of minutes, reaching the other side.
Once there, she guided them inside the cave, which had several springs inside where cold, fresh-looking water came from.
“Goo are… usually stuck to walls and the ceiling, be careful. Sometimes they jump on people’s heads to suffocate them,” Agua said. “And-“
SPLASH!
One of such Goos jumped over Agua’s head, it was red colored.
“Bbrrrhhhh!”
She groaned as she realized she was the one being caught!
“A-Agua!”
Aquarina panicked, amassing Mana and hitting the goo with it, spreading her mana through the monster and making it explode without harming the girl.
SPLAAAT!
As the slime exploded and covered everyone around, there was some silence as Agua gasped for air.
“Haahh… Haah… Cough…”
“Are you alright? That caught me off guard!”
“Yes I’m fine… it’s the first time it happened to me, I was distracted… R-Release your Auras everyone, Goo can be a bit tricky.”
At Agua’s request, their Auras encompassed their bodies, as they walked inside of the cave to further explore its interior.
Suddenly, a few more Goos moved through the ceiling, Aquarina’s eyes spotted them trying to quickly jump over them again.
“Not happening!”
She transformed her Aura, fusing it with her Spirit Energy and turning it into a huge bag, trapping the goos inside.
“Heheh! Gotcha!”
Her friends were surprised she caught them so easily, as if she were a fisher grabbing fish directly from the ocean.
“Oh wow, so those are the goo then!” Silvia said. “Aren’t they weird little guys?”
“They sure are ugly though, look at their jaws and eyes…” Justicio muttered.
“…” Pyuku’s eyes widened as he glanced at the creatures, caressing the aura-made bag in silence.
“P-Pyuku?” Aquarina asked, growing worried.
“…”
Pyuku remained in silence even more, as if he was trying to do something.
Or perhaps, that he realized something!
“Wait, don’t tell me…!”
Aquarina panicked for a bit, believing these Goo might actually be Slimes that had mutated or something and were turned into monsters agonizingly.
“These are…!”
Everyone was expectant of his words.
And the truth was…
“Completely unrelated to me or the other slimes, no way,” Pyuku sighed. “They are indeed just similar, perhaps this is what you would call convergent evolution. When two completely unrelated lifeforms take upon similar shapes because that is more convenient for them in their current environment or something…”
“Wait, really?! Phew!” Aquarina sighed in relief. “I really imagined the worst…”
“They’re completely different than us slimes if you look at their cellular structure…” Pyuku said. “They’re most likely monsters born in this world, rather than slimes that came from outside.”
