Chapter 1892: Let’s Cherish The Present
—–
The idea of a “royal wedding” came from my father. Although I agreed it was possible, Aquarina and I didn’t want anything too grand that would draw excessive attention. This wedding was meant to be personal, shared only with our families and closest friends.
Perhaps the king and queen could visit for the day. The only real reason to hold it in the capital would be if my grandfather couldn’t travel—he always had to protect the elven city.
In the end, we chose Agartha. It wasn’t where we were born, but it was where we grew up during our teenage years, living close to one another. Though Aquarina and her family had their own manor, she often stayed at my house anyway. Sometimes it truly felt like we lived together.
“Alright, so Agartha it is?” Nepheline nodded, rubbing her chin after finishing a large apple. “That’s fair. The royal capital sounds fancier, but I’m not one to dictate where my daughter gets married… and technically, she already had something similar before, right?”
“Yeah, that ceremony with the Amazon Tribe was more like an engagement ritual,” Aquarina said.
“And Sylphy’s culture celebrates weddings differently…” Nepheline added.
“Hm, yeah, mostly from my human side,” I said, enjoying my pancakes. “Elves hold weddings deep in the forest, surrounded by nature. It’s a quiet, harmonious ritual. Often in places rich with spiritual energy, it’s meant to forge an eternal bond witnessed by all spirits…”
“That’s one reason elves who marry tend to love only once,” Nepheline continued softly.
As we ate, Master Felicia descended the stairs with a sleepy expression, startling Aquarina, who dreaded her upcoming test tomorrow.
“It’s why elves who fall for humans are called forever heartbroken,” Felicia said with a faint smile toward my father. “Even with Cultivation, lifespans can’t extend infinitely. True immortality doesn’t exist. Eventually, we all pass. Elves live longer than humans… so they usually choose other elves, even if they don’t always get along perfectly. You know that well, don’t you, Allan? Sylphy?”
“Uh… yeah…” I nodded, sighing softly.
It felt awkward, even a bit harsh, but Master Felicia had always been direct. It was part of her nature, and it often tested people’s patience.
Deep down, I knew she was kind and good-hearted, yet outwardly she could seem incredibly cold.
“Felicia… did you have to phrase it like that?” my father asked, frowning slightly.
“That wasn’t very kind…” Nepheline sighed. “Sheesh, almost two decades since we last met, and you’re still the same…”
“Hm…” Aquarina looked down at her plate, suddenly quiet.
I noticed the subtle sadness in her eyes. Perhaps Felicia’s words had stirred worries about the inevitable—the truth we both carried silently.
Over the years, no matter how hard I tried to push it aside, it lingered in my mind. It had once stolen my joy, but I had slowly learned to move past the fear.
Now, I chose to cherish the present.
“What comes later shouldn’t overshadow now,” I said gently, taking Aquarina’s hand. “What matters most is valuing every moment we share. I believe the time we spend together… will echo forever, leaving our mark on the world.”
“…Sylphy,” Aquarina whispered, her eyes meeting mine. A small tear glistened as she smiled. “A-Ah, sorry… What’s gotten into me lately? Haha… I’ve become so emotional…”
“It’s all right… Don’t dwell on it,” I murmured, hugging her close and kissing her cheek. “We can’t know what the future holds. I’m not saying we shouldn’t prepare, but as long as we do while still enjoying today, I think it’s okay.”
“That’s true. Prepare, but don’t let worry steal your present joy,” my father agreed with a warm nod. “That’s why I told you two to focus on what you want in life, not wars or gods. Those aren’t things young people your age should care about.”
“Hmm!” Nepheline smiled. “Exactly! Listen to your father-in-law, Aquarina. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Enjoy your time with Sylphy. Live fully, so you have no regrets!”
“Yeah,” Shade added softly. “My dear Aquarina, all I want is for you to embrace life completely. Don’t linger on things that haven’t happened. Focus on the good yet to come.”
“Hahah… okay, you’re all showering me with encouragement…” Aquarina blushed, embarrassed. “I get it… Master Felicia is just a cunt.”
“Huh?! Insolent girl!” Felicia’s brows furrowed.
“Come on, Felicia, you kind of earned that,” Nepheline laughed. “My daughter can be sharp-tongued sometimes. Just… don’t be a cunt, all right?”
“Tsk! Is this how you treat the one feeding and sheltering you?” Felicia huffed, clearly annoyed.
“S-Sorry, haha, that slipped out…” Aquarina apologized awkwardly.
“Master, why bring it up like that?” I asked gently.
“Hmm, I only speak the truth,” Felicia sighed.
I moved to her side, massaging her stiff shoulders while preparing her favorite tea and cream-filled donuts. “Hmm… And… ugh… Even if you’re doing this, it won’t erase what your girlfriend said— Ohh… Ahh, yes… I needed that massage.”
She was small and endearing despite her age, so I didn’t mind helping her relax. She had worked through the night again, leaving her shoulders tense.
I channeled Heavenly Flames to ease the ache, then infused spiritual energy to soothe her nerves completely.
“It’s good to speak truth, but sometimes the delivery can hurt others,” I said softly. “We all care for you deeply. We love you. So please… try to be kinder. We don’t expect cold words from those we hold dear.”
“…” Felicia rolled her eyes. “Fine, Sylphy. You want an apology? I’m sorry…”
She fell silent and ate alone. As I started to step away…
“When did I say you could stop the massage? And later, a foot massage too,” she added.
“Eeeh? So demanding…” I groaned playfully.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to, Sylphy,” my father chuckled. “Don’t let her boss you around.”
“Hmph…” Felicia sighed.
“Anyway, we’ll wait outside, Master. Come on, Aquarina,” I said, taking her hand.
“A-Ah, yeah! Thank you for the meal!” Aquarina called as we stepped out together.
Outside, the snowy mountains gleamed under a clear blue sky.
Today was unusually bright—a rare break from the constant clouds and snowfall. Sunrays danced across the snow, making the peaks shimmer like they were crafted from pure light.
“Woah… it’s cold, but beautiful,” Aquarina said, gazing around.
“Yeah,” I agreed, sitting beside her. “You know I’ll always love you, right?”
“Hm?” Aquarina turned to me, cheeks flushing as I nuzzled her face and kissed her cheek. “I-I know… Don’t worry, I wasn’t sad.”
“You shed a little tear!” I pouted.
“Aaah, well… yes…” she admitted softly. “Mostly because I’m so happy to be with you right now…” She squeezed my hand.
I pulled her closer, wrapping her in my warmth. In that quiet moment, surrounded by sparkling snow and endless sky, everything felt eternal.
