Chapter 1900: Lost Baby
—–
“Ah, Sylphy, you’re finally awake, huh?” my father laughed heartily. “I guess you two got plenty of exercise last night.”
“D-Dad!” I blushed deeply, mortified that he would say something so bold.
“Hahaha, no need to be embarrassed! Welcome to married life,” he chuckled. “Now that you’re an adult, am I not allowed to make adult jokes?”
“It was funny. We did get a lot of exercise, yeah,” Aquarina laughed along with him.
“Aquarina…” I sighed, facepalming. “Uh, hi Ruby. Good morning. Sorry about this…”
“Sylphy! Today I learned a Fire Spirit Body Refining Method from your dad. It’s really good! With it, I can grow much stronger,” she said excitedly. “Oh, hi Aquarina!”
“Hey,” Aquarina waved casually.
“Oh, that’s great!” I said, nodding. “But do you need your body to be even tougher than it already is? I thought you didn’t want to get too muscular.”
“No, this one’s different. It uses spirit fire. Your dad said it can even shape the body according to what the mind desires,” Ruby explained. “But it only works well at higher Mastery Levels, so I have to train hard.”
“She kept asking if I knew anything that could help her shape her body however she wanted,” Dad added. “I remembered this method I rarely used myself, and it seemed perfect for her. Want the formula?”
“A shapeshifting fire spirit body refining method?” I mused. “Hm, well, sure.”
“Show me your hand,” he said.
“Hm?” I extended my left palm.
“It’ll burn a little,” he warned, as his index finger flared with spirit fire before pressing it gently into my palm.
“It doesn’t hurt at all, haha,” I giggled.
“Ah, I guess you’re already mostly immune to fire. You make your father proud,” he nodded warmly.
And then…
FLUOSH!
Father directly transferred “knowledge”—a complex series of circuits formed from spirit energy and mana—into my palm. I could instantly channel it to read the entire formula.
“Wow, it’s truly a Cultivation Method that refines the body using spirit fire from familiars…” I gasped. “And I just learned it? Just like that?”
“Convenient, right? It only works with Methods you’re compatible with, though,” he explained. “This is how Cultivation Methods can be shared quickly.”
“That’s amazing! Can I learn that technique too?” I asked eagerly.
“Sure, I’ll imprint it again,” he said.
He repeated the process, and I learned the name of the method: “Spiritual Imprint.”
Quite literally, it involved imprinting a spiritual pattern into someone’s body. This pattern could take the form of spells, cultivation methods, weapon techniques, and more.
The only condition was that the recipient needed some affinity with it, or nothing would transfer.
“This is so cool!” I exclaimed. “I had no idea such things existed.”
“Well, you’re still just beginning. You’ll discover many new wonders at the Academy,” my father said. “For now, focus on mastering Alchemy. You’ve already done an impressive job so far, Sylphy. Congratulations.”
“Thank you, Dad,” I smiled warmly. “Sooo, are we too late for breakfast?”
“We just finished. You missed it,” Ruby said. “The girls went back to their room. They wanted to keep working on their own projects.”
“I guess everyone’s busy today!” I nodded.
“Where are my parents, though?” Aquarina wondered. “Esmeralda was alone with us earlier, then she ran off to find my mom somewhere.”
“Really? Shade and Nepheline went to the city briefly with Felicia to get provisions,” Dad said. “They told me the baby was sleeping… I guess she woke up. Can’t you find her? I’m worried if she’s alone.”
“Yeah, we should look for her. I thought your mom was home!” I sighed.
“Honestly, my mom should have taken her along…” Aquarina sighed. “Esmeralda! Where are you?”
Aquarina and I began searching for Esmeralda, checking room after room, until we heard her little cry.
“Wuuuhhh… Waahhh…”
“E-Esmeralda?! Where are you?”
We expanded our Auras and Senses, finally locating her. She was underground! Somehow she had fallen through and reached the first floor of the house—the one where Felicia stored many dangerous items.
“Esmeralda!”
We rushed downstairs and knocked on the door. The entire house, being a golem and Felicia’s familiar, opened it after sensing our urgency.
“There you are! How did you get down here?”
Aquarina found Esmeralda crying, covered in mud and looking frightened. She calmed quickly once Aquarina picked her up, washed her with warm water, and I dried her clothes with gentle wind magic.
“Aw, poor little baby. Are you alright, my love?” I asked softly, patting her tiny head. “It’s okay. Mommy just stepped out for a little while. Let’s spend time together instead, okay?”
“Wuuh… uh-huh…” Esmeralda nodded as I wiped away her tears. Aquarina looked at me in surprise.
“W-What?” I asked.
“You’re really good with babies. She calmed down right away…” Aquarina said.
“Ah, I’ve practiced babysitting for years…” I laughed lightly.
“Oh, for Zephyrus?” she giggled.
“Yeeeah… Zephyrus,” I nodded.
Actually, it was for all my friends I had known since they were toddlers. I had been helping care for them practically since the day of my reincarnation.
This might include Aquarina herself, but I kept that thought quiet… She was now a young adult, so different from the adorable baby she once was.
Back then, she felt more like a little sister. Only as she grew did I start seeing her differently… though even then, my feelings were conflicted.
It was only now that I had fully embraced her.
“Your sister really reminds me of when you were this small and cute,” I giggled softly.
“You remember that far back?” Aquarina asked, surprised.
“I-I mean, don’t you??” I replied.
“Not much. It’s all blurry… It’s been over a decade. Most people don’t remember much from when they were one,” Aquarina laughed.
“Ah… well, that’s fine,” I nodded, smiling tenderly. “I remember everything. We elves have excellent memories, after all. Every moment I’ve lived stays vivid in my mind and heart, etched into my soul.”
“Wow…” Aquarina murmured, touched. “That’s beautiful.”
“Yeah,” I smiled, caressing her face gently. “I’ll never forget every sweet moment we’ve shared… I love you.”
“I-I love you too,” Aquarina giggled, leaning in for a soft kiss.
“Awuuh!” Esmeralda protested, swatting our faces with her tiny hands. They hurt—she was surprisingly strong.
“Ouch! Okay, okay…” Aquarina winced.
“Do you want food, Esmeralda?” I asked. “Maybe we can make some fruit puree and give her cow or goat milk. It should be nutritious enough.”
We headed back upstairs and prepared breakfast. I quickly made eggs, toast, and a few pancakes. We ate plenty of fruit to fill up, tackling the large bowl harvested from my dungeon. I didn’t want it lingering in my inventory forever.
