Chapter 1902: The Truth About Gods
—–
As I continued reading the final lines of the system message, I pondered deeply about what a God truly is and what it means to become one.
[You have developed the [Divinity]: [Tier 1: Rank 1: Heroic Divinity of Heavenly Sun and Thunder (Demigod Realm)]
[You have ascended into a Demigod, stepping further along the Path to Heaven!]
[To further strengthen your Divinity, it is necessary to spread your Faith and absorb Divine Power while also cultivating your own Divinity through Enlightenment.]
One of the main reasons Gods need so many mortals is precisely this. It also explains why they settled here, terraformed the entire planet, and spread the tribes they created to worship them.
Worship.
But is worship everything a God needs? Simply cultivate mortals, command them to worship, and call it done?
Evil Gods would disagree. They draw power from Fear.
This realization struck me deeply. Worship and Fear share one crucial element: interaction and emotion.
Gods are not mere spirits, yet they are not ordinary living beings either. They are conceptual entities that feed on emotional energy. Their power fades when they are no longer worshiped or feared.
They require constant interaction with countless minds to grow stronger, drawing upon the invisible, ethereal essence produced by those minds.
In a way, Gods could be called Emotional Spectrum Parasites. Through belief, they latch onto people’s souls and consume their faith or fear. As long as people keep them in mind, Gods persist. The more this happens, the more elevated their existence becomes.
It is a strange thought, but they are beings that cling to living creatures for their emotions. The desires, souls, and minds of mortals exude these energies, which Gods devour to grow ever larger.
Influence is the key. The more a god occupies the thoughts of others, the more solidly their concept manifests.
I do not know if other types of gods exist that function differently, but this is the nature of the Invaders’ gods—and the kind of God I am becoming.
[As a Demigod, you can perform most abilities Gods possess. You have learned the following Divine Skills: [Divine Gift Bestowal: Lv1] and [Divinity Management: Lv1]!]
[Using [Divine Gift Bestowal: Lv1], you can create Divine Gifts with available resources, such as Dungeon Points, to aid those under your Divine Protection.]
[These Divine Gifts may range from weapons, accessories, and armor to living beings such as spirits, skill scrolls, and more.]
[The stronger your Divinely Protected grow, the stronger your Divinity becomes, and the more Faith you gain as they spread your name and perform feats in your honor.]
[Using [Divinity Management: Lv1], you can oversee your Divinely Protected, monitor their growth and potential, assess the potential of others, deepen your bonds, and grant special abilities such as [Divine Descent] and [Divine Avatar] to help you and your blessed grow even stronger.]
The Divinely Protected serve as Heralds of Gods, yet they could also be seen as “farmers” preparing the “crops”—the mortals. They expand the God’s influence, ensuring mortals produce abundant Faith or Fear for harvest.
This harvested power, whether Faith or Fear, is refined through the Divinity into an energy known by many names: Divine Power, Divinity Essence, or Divine Energy. It is an evolved fusion of Mana, Spirit Energy, Soul Essence, Lifeforce, and Elemental Essence.
Thus, Gods can reshape elemental structures and materialize creations at will, molding this energy into gifts, weapons, accessories, armor, or even spirits.
This is the power I have gained, though at my current level it remains limited. I need a “Connection”—my Saintess Aquarina—to create gifts for her. I cannot yet make them for anyone else, but there is a loophole: she can later distribute the items to others.
[Your Divinity manifests, granting power beyond your limits! You have gained +10,000 to All Stats! These new Stats do not affect your Glitched Status but add to your ( ) Status as extra bonuses.]
[You have earned the Title: [First Demigoddess of Humanity]!]
[You previously granted Minor Blessings to several allies. Do you wish to select one as an official Hero or Saint? Appointing an Official Hero or Saint is necessary for your Faith to properly establish and spread. You may choose more later as your Divinity grows.]
[The Divine Faith you earn as a Demigoddess is separate from the Civilization Stat {Faith}. Please note that only by influencing your Civilization can you increase its Stats.]
Though I have not yet greatly influenced this world as a goddess—aside from a few desert tribes through Aquarina’s heroic guidance and devotion as my Saintess—I still gather a steady stream of Divine Faith from my Dungeon every few days, thanks to its residents and even the monsters.
Yes, I commanded all dungeon monsters to worship me, only to discover they were already doing so. Gaining Faith this way proved remarkably easy. I feel like I am cheating, though. This is certainly not how Gods typically gather Faith.
I am definitely cheating.
Perhaps the Evil God of Dungeons, beyond Fear, amasses vast Faith from his own monsters. That might explain how a seemingly low-ranking god evolved into such a formidable threat—one even the rulers of the gods cannot easily stop.
The only reason I possess a Dungeon at all is Alice and the Glitched System. Without her, I would likely be nothing more than… I do not know. My entire reincarnation was orchestrated by that God of Reincarnation. Without Alice, I might not even be Sylphy. Another soul would have taken this body, while mine drifted elsewhere, losing all memories and becoming someone ordinary.
The thought weighs heavily on me. Though I once felt anger toward that God, there is truly no reason for it. All he did was bestow gifts upon me. I am deeply grateful, and he is certainly not like the other Gods.
Of course, Alice still harbors a grudge against her father for abandoning her with her burdens for eons until he passed her to me.
Setting all that aside, refining and forging my Divinity involves several steps.
First, I gather Faith or Fear—these intense emotions glow white or black. Then I absorb them into my Divinity, which is fused with my soul, drawing everything inward.
Next, I channel the power of my Divine Sunlight Halo, Divine Golden Thunder Rings, and Divine Star of Destruction to purify this Faith and Fear into pure Divine Essence.
This Divine Essence then flows through my Soul, Divinity, Body, Mind, Spirit Heart, and Magic Circle, accelerating my cultivation while my Divinity grows stronger with each cycle.
