Chapter 1904: A New Goal
—–
After Aquarina’s impressive performance in the test, she was accepted as one of Master Felicia’s disciples and officially joined our group. Following a celebratory feast, Master Felicia immediately assigned the next challenge, as if she had been eagerly awaiting Aquarina’s completion. Naturally, this felt exhausting for Aquarina after everything she had already accomplished, but she would need to adjust to our demanding routine.
“Very well. You have three months to complete this task. It will be the first of your final three tests,” Master Felicia announced. “Aquarina, since you joined late, you’ll be starting at this advanced stage as well. It’s tough, but I’m willing to offer private lessons if you need help catching up.”
“Understood,” Aquarina nodded.
“The objective is straightforward,” Master Felicia continued. “What do you think is the most important creation for an alchemist? The one thing we must truly master?”
“Potions?” Celica ventured.
“No,” Felicia shook her head.
“Magic accessories?” Celeste suggested.
“Not those either,” Felicia replied with a smile.
“Magic weapons? Elixirs? Antidotes?” I guessed.
“None of those,” Felicia said. “The most vital thing an alchemist can produce—and what you must perfect—is the Alchemy Cauldron itself, along with the knowledge behind its creation.”
“Huh? Alchemy Cauldrons?” Celeste repeated in surprise. “But didn’t you already gift us some?”
“And what of it? Do you plan to rely forever on cauldrons made by someone else?” Felicia laughed. “The ones you have are merely for beginners. You need to craft your own personalized cauldrons, infused with enchantments that harmonize perfectly with your magic. These are known as Soul Cauldrons. Once created, you refine them with your Alchemy Soul, transforming them into something akin to a Soul Weapon—or as I prefer, a Soul Treasure.”
“S-Soul Treasure? Hold on, that’s completely new to me!” I exclaimed. “I didn’t know such a thing existed. Soul Weapons… wait, I get it now. Soul Treasures are those special artifacts that connect directly to the soul and function like Soul Weapons, right? Uncle Shade and my dad each have one.”
“Exactly. Legendary Weapons like theirs are Soul Treasures,” Felicia confirmed. “But they aren’t limited to weapons. Soul Treasures can be anything—armor, accessories, or even cauldrons.”
“That’s intriguing,” Celeste murmured. “But are we really qualified to forge a Soul Treasure? I don’t even recall creating an Alchemy Soul, whatever that entails.”
“You already possess everything you need,” Felicia assured us. “Today’s lesson will cover Soul Treasures, Soul Cauldrons, and the Alchemy Soul. Let’s move to the classroom and settle in.”
We followed her into the small room within Master Felicia’s sentient house, taking our seats on wooden chairs as she began the lecture.
“First, your test: you must create your own cauldron. It needs to be at least SS Grade. I won’t accept anything less—it will form the foundation of your growth as alchemists,” Felicia declared.
“SS Grade?!” Aquarina gasped in disbelief. “There’s no way I can manage that yet!”
“Don’t worry. I’m confident you can,” I said, offering her a reassuring smile. “We’ll just need to gather the right materials. Right, Master?”
“Precisely,” Felicia nodded. “Now, about the Alchemy Soul—it’s not as complicated as it sounds. You’ve all inscribed numerous Alchemy Runes into your Magic Circles, haven’t you? The next step is simply to imprint those runes into your soul and manifest the Alchemy Soul.”
“And how exactly do we do that?” Ruby asked, raising an eyebrow in clear skepticism at her master’s casual description of something so daunting.
“It’s straightforward,” Felicia replied. “Release your Soul Aura, channel your Alchemy Magic into your hands, and infuse it directly into your soul. The process may sting a bit, but after a few hours, it should complete. Once your Alchemy Soul awakens, your abilities will reach new heights. You’ll finally be able to properly process and synthesize materials beyond Tier 7.”
“Anything past Tier 7 has always been incredibly difficult,” Celeste agreed. “So this is the key to handling those. It sounds painful, though. Why an Alchemy Soul specifically?”
“You’re all seasoned alchemists by now,” Felicia explained. “When synthesizing powerful materials, they sometimes manifest Alchemy Spirits that resist the process. Normally, you repel them with magic or physical force. Defeating them not only completes the creation but also enhances its quality.”
“Yeah, we’re familiar with that,” I nodded.
“Then you can likely guess the challenge with higher tiers,” Felicia continued. “Tier 7 and above materials are far too volatile and fierce. Physical or magical attacks won’t suffice. You must use your Alchemy Soul to draw the spirit into your Soul Cauldron and battle it directly with your soul. Only through this victory can you truly subdue the spirit and elevate your alchemy. This benefit extends to Synthesis, Geomancy, and Transfiguration. Furthermore, when your Alchemy Soul and Soul Cauldron align perfectly, you can project an Alchemical Domain—a space where processing materials, and even influencing the world around you, becomes far easier. It grants a tremendous advantage, allowing your magical power to surpass others at your level. Understand?”
“That was a lot, but I think I follow,” I said quietly. “Could you tell us more about Soul Treasures, Master Felicia?”
“Of course. Soul Treasures are magical artifacts bound to your soul,” she explained. “To create one, you refine an artifact you’ve forged using your Soul Flames. Sylphy, you’ve actually done something very similar already.”
“Me?!” I blurted out.
“Yes. Aren’t your sword and shield examples of that?” Felicia asked. “You’ve refined them into Soul Treasures long ago. By now, they’ve even developed souls of their own.”
“Oh…”
The realization struck me. That was the proper term for what I had achieved—thanks to the System. By planting System Seeds into my sword and shield, I had granted them artificial souls and forged an eternal link to my own.
So this is how Soul Treasures are normally created… minus the System Seed, which isn’t something others possess.
“In that case,” I said curiously, “isn’t my cauldron, Violet, already sufficient as a Soul Cauldron?”
“No, dear, she isn’t,” Felicia replied firmly, dashing my hope in an instant. “Violet has evolved into a unique monster, much like your inventory that became a mimic. You’ve contracted both as familiars—entirely different.”
“But my sword and shield became comparable to Soul Treasures using the same method,” I pointed out.
“It likely depends on intent, original form, and final evolution,” Felicia clarified. “Your unique ability seems to offer two paths: transforming an object into a monster, like the Alchemy Cauldron Slime or Inventory Mimic, or into a Living Weapon—an advanced form of Soul Artifact.”
“Wow,” I murmured. “I had no idea that’s what happened.”
Felicia laughed. “You wield such extraordinary power yet remain oblivious to its depths. With your first cauldron, you simply took the monster path instead of the artifact one.”
“It’s alright,” I shrugged with a smile. “I love Violet just as she is. Even if I create a new Soul Cauldron, she’ll still assist me. She’s a rare alchemy-type monster, after all.”
“True enough. I’d love a familiar like her!” Felicia admitted enthusiastically. “Sylphy, couldn’t you ask her to divide or reproduce? Maybe pair her with another slime or goo so I could have just one egg. Her species must be extraordinary.”
“W-What?!”
