Chapter 1925: A Mother’s Return
—–
When I stepped downstairs with Aquarina, I heard a voice I recognized instantly. The beloved voice of my mother, the one I had missed for all these years.
I rushed down the stairs, barely hearing her gentle reprimand as I ignored everything else and threw myself into her arms. Though, to be honest, I had even missed her constant yapping.
“Mom!”
My mother giggled as she hugged me back, her arms wrapping warmly around me. The last time we saw each other was two years ago, and not a single day had passed without me thinking of her, even if just for a moment.
I had grown up with both her and my father always present. To suddenly have her vanish from my life for so long had made me appreciate her presence so much more deeply.
“Sylphy… I missed you too, my love,” she said with a tender smile. I looked up at her—she was exactly as I remembered: dazzling, with long blonde hair and emerald eyes. The most beautiful elf woman in the world. That was my mama. “Come here, please… Your mama needs your hugs and kisses. Two years is nothing to us elves, but after I gave birth to you, time has felt so much slower. Perhaps because I’m finally experiencing so many wonderful new things as a mother.”
“Mom!” I began to cry against her chest as she held me tightly, kissing my head and forehead. I kissed her face over and over, hugging her with all my strength. “I missed you so much… Mom…!”
“Geez, you’re such a baby,” she giggled softly. “You’ve grown up so much in just two years, yet you still act the same as before, huh? Also, congratulations on becoming an adult now! I regret not being there when it happened…”
“It’s fine! We can celebrate it again, hehe!” I giggled through my tears. “I’ve been fine, really. I’ve learned so much from Master Felicia, and… well, Aquarina just got here a week and a half ago too! We’ve been doing all sorts of things together, and even before that, with my friends, we learned so much and…” I couldn’t stop talking. I was too excited to see her again.
“I see, I see. I’m glad you’ve been working and studying diligently. It seems all my teachings didn’t just go in one ear and out the other, hm?” My mother nodded, her flawless smile accompanied by the sharp, knowing eyes of a teacher who had lived for hundreds of years. “Good girl… or well, perhaps I should say well done? I guess you’re no longer a child.”
“Hahah, it’s fine! Call me whatever you want!” I said with a bright giggle. “You’re my mom after all. Don’t people say that no matter how old we get, a son or daughter will always be their parent’s child?”
“I have no idea where you heard such a thing,” she replied, smiling warmly. “But I like that saying. I can’t wait to talk more with you, but first, let’s not forget about your friends and your brother!”
“Ah! Right! I’m so sorry!” I exclaimed. I had been so caught up in my mother’s return that I completely forgot my friends had come back too.
Well, the friends who had gone with her—Lara and Mist!
And Nephilim could be considered my dear friend as well, though she was also my Familiar. I had entrusted her with protecting and caring for my brother for two full years.
And then there was my brother, Zepyrus!
Everyone seemed to be chatting with our parents and the others, but as I approached, they slowly turned toward me. Before I could reach them…
Someone covered my eyes!
“Eh?! Ah! W-Who?”
I was confused for a moment, and then I heard the voice.
“Guess who! Heheh!”
That cheerful, lively voice full of energy, surrounded by an aura constantly swarming with all sorts of spirits.
Yes, I could sense her presence from a mile away.
She had grown tremendously strong too!
“L-Lara…?”
“Yep! It’s meeee!”
“Laraaaaa!”
I cried out happily as I turned and hugged her tightly.
I noticed she had grown a little taller, now only a centimeter shorter than me.
She looked so beautiful. She had matured even more, carrying herself like a true princess of the spirits.
Her long, fluffy white-blonde hair, the big sheep horns curling from each side of her head and glowing with golden light, the accessories I had given her still adorning her.
And how could I forget her bright eyes, constantly shifting through every color.
There was also something new: a small rainbow-colored sigil on her forehead, shaped like a delicate star.
“Lara! Oh my gosh, you look so great!”
“It’s only been two years, Sylphy, heheh. It’s not that big a change, is it? You’re the one who’s changed! You’re so tall now and so pretty!”
“Aw, you’re the pretty one here!”
I hugged her again, patting her back and kissing her face.
“You’ve gone through a lot too? I can feel so much power within you! You’ve cultivated tremendously, amazing! All the Spirits love you even more now.”
“Oh yes! I met sooooo many wonderful people! I even achieved Enlightenment, as they call it, and the Spirits of the world respond to my call even stronger. We’re all one big family!”
“I’m so happy for you!”
As I hugged her and celebrated her return, I sensed another figure approaching behind me.
“Um… Sylphy?”
That slightly shy voice… though it carried more confidence now, she was still a little nervous.
She had a faint presence, wrapped in a pale white aura, yet I could feel immense spiritual energy and holy light within her.
And above all, even a subtle touch of “heaven.”
Wow, she had truly grown so much…
“Mist?”
“Yes, it’s me…”
I turned to look at her. She was completely grown up—taller than me now!
She used to be such a little potato but look at her now!
Her fluffy white hair, four eyes, and horns remained the same, yet she carried a much more dignified, beautiful, and still adorably cute appearance.
She was definitely still Mist, but she had grown in every way.
“Wow, Mist, you’ve grown even more than Lara…”
“A-Ahh… yes… I have, hahaha. I’m… I’m so happy to finally see you again… sniff… Buaaaahh!”
And then she completely broke, bursting into tears as she hugged me, sobbing against my shoulder.
I was so happy to see her that I started crying too, just a little.
“I’m so happy as well! Mist! You’ve grown so much! You’re so beautiful!”
“Hahah… thank you, Sylphy, you too! Ahhh, it has been so hard sometimes. I always felt like giving up! The trials were so impossible… but we pushed forward together, and now we’re finally together again!” she said. Whatever trials my mother had put her through must have been truly grueling.
“I agree, they’ve been really hard…” I nodded, gently caressing her face, wiping away her tears, and kissing her cheeks. “But no more crying, okay?”
“Okay! Heheh!” she giggled, occasionally flashing her sharp teeth that she still tried so hard to hide. “I already greeted Celeste and Celica. I cried with them too…”
