Chapter 1937: The Sea of Consciousness
—–
A week had passed since my mother, my brother, and my friends returned to us. We had mostly relaxed and taken things easy, using the time to reconnect rather than rushing into dungeons or anything intense. Ruby had surprisingly clicked with the rest of my friends. Though she remained reserved, she was speaking much more than before and opening up noticeably, even if she wasn’t fully there yet. I supposed it would take time for her to completely lower her walls.
Throughout the week, I had kept trying to convince Aquarina to use the Cultivation Method Armageddon designed specifically for her. I begged her repeatedly because it was tailored perfectly for her growth, yet she refused every time. She insisted she didn’t need that much power anyway and that she was already plenty strong.
I agreed with her on some level, but we would face far stronger enemies in the future—I was certain of it. I didn’t want her wasting time on basic practice when she could master a proper method.
Still, she kept refusing, so there was little I could do. Armageddon had said the Method wasn’t especially compatible with me, but I decided to learn it anyway so the knowledge wouldn’t go to waste. I read the scroll carefully and absorbed its insights.
Recalling their conversation while I studied the Raging Oceans and Calm Seas Sutra, I closed my eyes and sat cross-legged in the lotus position inside my room. It was night; we had planned to head into town tomorrow with my brother, Aquarina, and my friends, so tonight I intended to master this method and demonstrate it to her.
“W-What is this? Some kind of trap?”
“It’s a Divine Cultivation Method I created specifically for you! It is called Raging Oceans and Calm Seas Sutra. It is both a Body, Soul, Spirit, and Mind Cultivation Method that also functions as a Meditation Technique. It will help you control your emotions much better if you master it fully and even weaponize your rage and calmness to gain unprecedented power. Your Divine Pathways are all a mess because you’re a mortal—you possess three Divinity Sparks, yet they feel hollow and weak without a proper Cultivation Method. With this, that problem will be solved… well, for now. You’re supposed to move on to other methods once you master this one.”
From what I remembered of that conversation, this incredible Cultivation Method cultivated Body, Soul, Spirit, and Mind while doubling as a Meditation Technique. It appeared capable of absorbing negative emotions and stockpiling them as raw power.
While meditating, I slowly absorbed the formula’s contents and made them my own, imprinting them across my Mind, Soul, Spirit, and Body.
FLASH!
In an instant, my consciousness transferred into an “Inner Sea” of my own, a “Sea of Consciousness,” as Armageddon called it within the formula.
“Wow…”
There, I saw that my Sea of Consciousness held all my memories and dreams, along with every power and my comprehension of Divinity and Elemental Spiritual Energies.
In simpler terms, it was a chaotic mess of countless colors.
Aquarina’s Inner Sea would likely resemble a raging blue ocean, where she could meditate within the waves and gradually calm them, absorbing the oceanic power.
But mine was neither fully wild nor calm.
It was simply messy, elemental powers, memories, dreams, hopes, everything tangled in strange ways
“Well, let’s give it a go.”
I concentrated within my Sea of Consciousness and sat cross-legged above it using Astral Projection. Slowly, the sea of countless colors and images began to swirl toward me.
Gradually, I guided it back to its origins, separating and organizing certain elements to make them more uniform.
Suddenly, many things within my soul began to shift. Conflicting energies and elements that had clashed before started flowing more naturally.
“Oh wow, it works with me too.”
I practiced for three straight hours with no backlash, stunned that it functioned at all, though in a different way than intended.
Armageddon truly was exceptional at creating Divine Cultivation Methods!
And there was no brainwashing. I would have noticed by now, if she had tried, she would have imprinted an exact copy of her consciousness into the formula, which would then recreate itself using mine and attempt to take over.
But there was nothing.
Armageddon had genuinely helped, and Aquarina simply refused to trust her… though I couldn’t blame Aquarina for her caution. Still, I would show her it worked perfectly, and maybe she would finally lower her guard and use it.
“Armageddon, come here for a moment.”
With a thought, Armageddon’s spiritual form manifested over my shoulder, a small version of herself. She looked slightly annoyed.
“Ugh, what do you want? I was busy raising my kids…”
“Oh, are you a responsible mother now?”
“Shut up… what do you need?”
“As you can see…”
I showed her I was actively using the Method. Her eyes widened.
“W-What are you doing?! I told you this method isn’t for you—it’ll crush your mind because the… the wavelengths are only for… masters of water? Wait a second, why is it working?” she wondered.
“So you made it exclusively for Aquarina, but it works on me anyway?” I asked.
“Yeah, this is beyond bizarre,” she said. “This Method is supposed to only work on her because it was crafted with her exact specifications in mind. But that fool rejected my kindness, which is so hard for me to show because it’s a disgusting human emotion.”
“Hmm, well, I guess there’s no brainwashing, huh?” I teased.
“Brainwashing?!” She looked genuinely shocked. “Tsk…! What would that ever benefit me? It would only enrage you, and then you would simply erase me. I already told you I intend to genuinely cooperate.”
“I know, I was just messing with you,” I said.
But even so, I didn’t trust her completely yet.
“I order you: try to take control over me using the cultivation methods you’ve taught me.”
“…?!”
Armageddon froze in shock as the order compelled her. She was forced to act and reveal once and for all whether she had been telling the truth.
What would happen?
Would she succeed?
Had she truly betrayed me or laid a trap to brainwash us later?
Or…
“Ugh…”
She facepalmed.
Nothing?
“You really don’t trust me…”
“So you never intended to, huh? I had the thought that maybe you would delay it, but nothing?”
“No.”
She sounded extremely grumpy now, and I couldn’t blame her…
But I also felt a wave of relief.
“I guess you cannot do anything, huh?”
“Of course not! Nngh! I already told you I didn’t put anything weird in them! I can’t! I don’t know what kind of power you think Cultivation Methods have, but unless they’re actual magic spells or curses, there’s no way to take over someone else’s body just by teaching them how to control their energies…”
“Right, maybe I was too paranoid. Sorry. But still—new permanent order: you will tell me every single plan you will ever have regarding betraying me.”
“…What?”
The order took hold. A white nail pierced her forehead and slowly vanished.
