“Thank you…” Ruby nodded. “I really never thought about it too deeply before… but I’m sure my mother would have told me something similar. I’ve never acted like a Hero before, and even now I’m afraid of what it means to be one. To be granted all this power… and misuse it or waste it away—though I’m fairly sure she wouldn’t agree to that.”

“We as a civilization have come very far, and the vast majority of the world is peaceful to an extent… but the world is still very dangerous. Monsters exist, and all kinds of other threats. We’ve always struggled against nature itself,” my mother said. “Crafters, Carpenters, Blacksmiths—they were all born to help our civilization prosper. You, a Hero who represents Craftsmanship itself, might lead humanity to a new Era one day.”

“…Eh? Really? I don’t really want to do that though…” Ruby muttered.

“Hahah, I guess you can say that now, but we are uncertain of the future,” my father laughed.

“Indeed, but even then, it’s still up to you,” my mother nodded. “Until then, don’t worry. Do what you can with what you have—that’s all.”

“I will…” Ruby nodded.

“Alright!” Nepheline celebrated. “I know not everyone is here yet, but still—let’s make a toast for the young generation of heroes!”

“OOOOHH!” Everyone raised their cups and cheered.

Seeing everyone here really made me feel grateful for the family and friends I was blessed with in this life.

And like my mother said, I will make sure to use all this strength I have to protect what I hold most precious.

Because maybe that’s what it means to be a Hero to me.
