Chapter 1955: Evercraft’s Royal Family Castle
——
“…Zephy, it’s… embarrassing in front of everyone,” Celica muttered.
Yep, we were all watching.
“Wow, this is really like those melodramatic TV shows I researched earlier,” Alice said, munching seeds beside me.
“Are you enjoying this?” I asked. “It’s not some kind of… what is a TV show anyway?”
As I spoke to her, I heard Zephyrus and Celica continue.
“Sorry, yeah, let’s leave that conversation for later,” Zephyrus said.
“Hm…” Celica nodded. “I need my space…” She quickly released his hand and walked off alone.
Ouch.
I guess she really was a little upset.
I knew Celica was a special girl and her mindset differed from ours in some ways.
She could be quirky about physical touch sometimes. My brother being too handsy might not have been the best move, especially when they weren’t that far along yet.
Though she did enjoy hugging at times and wasn’t completely averse to contact. My brother had simply gotten too nervous and fumbled the moment.
“Ugh…” he sighed, walking alone.
We watched him and felt a pang of sympathy. He was the only boy in a large group of girls, so it must feel overwhelming without a bro around to talk about these things with more confidence, right?
I’m his big sister, though, so I should be that “bro” even though I’m a woman. I wanted to be someone he could lean on and confide in without shame or fear.
But yeah, I really wished Luck and Zack were here right now. I missed those two guys so much…
“Hey, brother, is everything alright?” I asked as he glanced back at me with mild surprise.
“Ah, no, I think I screwed things up. What do I do? I think she’s mad at me… I didn’t think it through,” Zephyrus said.
“Well, it’s fine,” I reassured him. “I’m sure you can fix this by just talking to her, telling her you care about her and love her, right? Celica is a good girl. She’s just sensitive, so you have to be careful with what you say.”
“I… will, I guess,” he sighed.
“Did you really tell her you were going to marry her?” I asked.
“Um, yeah, it was like… well, I was trying to cheer her up back then,” Zephyrus admitted. “I’m inexperienced with all these things.”
“Heh, I see,” I nodded.
“Sis, what do I do about this?” he asked. “You know Celica better, right?”
“Well…” I explained that she had undergone a lot of growth lately, especially during our recent fight inside my dungeon, where she pushed herself hard and emerged stronger from the experience. “She’s not quite the same as she used to be before. Well, nobody is. We all change through every year of our lives. You changed the most among us, and very quickly.”
“It wasn’t quick to me,” Zephyrus said. “Those years I spent fighting were all real and… I guess they stunted me a little socially. I should probably… do something about it.”
“Yeah, but that’s not something that can be fixed overnight. It takes time, Zephyrus. First, think carefully about what you should tell Celica right now. I believe you should open up to her about what you went through. I’m sure she’s curious and wants you to lean on her too.”
“Ah…” He looked surprised by my suggestion, as if the thought had never crossed his mind. “I just want to be like Dad… or any man. I just want her to lean on me and trust me. But…”
“Yeah, Celica isn’t like that. Trust has to be mutual, Zephyrus. You also have to trust her with these things and open your heart the same way you want her to open hers to you. It’s a two-way street, not one-sided,” I explained. “I’ve gone through similar issues with Aquarina—lack of communication, stubbornness, our personalities clashing, differences in beliefs and perspectives… but that’s natural and normal in a relationship. You’re going to argue and get angry sometimes, but if you both truly love each other, you’ll learn to forgive, accept, be patient, and talk things out.”
Zephyrus’s eyes widened. My simple words seemed to enlighten him. “I see. I didn’t think about that, sis… I… I guess I really am inept at these things, huh? I might be trying to rush everything too fast. Now that I know she loves me back, I’ve become awkward…”
I chuckled. “Believe me, she’s a little awkward right now too. She usually never acts this way. It seems her love for you is so genuine that she’s trying to take things more seriously. Celica used to brush things off and stay in her own world—her puppets and everything else. She interacts, sure, but most of the time her mind is elsewhere. Now she’s grown, matured, and with you, I think she’s making an effort, but it’s hard for her because… well, you know why.”
“Yeah…” Zephyrus nodded. “Yeah, you’re right… Damn it, why didn’t I realize she was trying so hard to fit in with me too? I was a bit stupid…”
I patted his shoulders. “Don’t be too hard on yourself, brother. We all make mistakes and… it’s nothing that bad either. It’s just natural. She’s not perfect either. She’ll make mistakes too, and you’ll have to have the courage to point them out and tell her why she was wrong. As I said, nobody is perfect. Everyone messes up, and life as a couple isn’t a perfect fairy tale. No matter what, you’re going to disagree, argue, and sometimes get mad at each other. It’s just how it is. It’s part of life.”
“Thanks,” he said, offering a warm smile. “I guess I should’ve asked Dad or Mom about this, but I don’t know…”
“Yeah, just ask your big sis if you’re in doubt,” I said, winking at him. “Look, we’re here already!”
After that long conversation about feelings and everything that comes with being a couple, we had already walked through the entire noble district and reached its highest point. A tall castle rose from the hill, surrounded by walls and many golems.
The castle constantly released steam from giant pipes and appeared to be constructed from incredibly hard metal. It looked more like a massive factory than a royal residence.
“Welcome to Evercraft’s Royal Family Castle. The King and the chancellors are awaiting you, Great Heroes,” a dwarf with short blonde hair greeted us, guiding us inside the vast structure.
