Chapter 1963: Monster Hunting
—–
“Oh, here we are, huh?” Ignatius mused, floating beside me. As we stepped into a wider chamber, a vast infested cave opened before us. Purple ice crystals jutted from the ground everywhere, and a thick, miasmic curse hung in the air—definitely toxic for most living beings.
For us, though, it was harmless. My Familiars shared my immunities, so they shrugged it off just like I did. And thanks to my new Spirit Heart, this dark energy actually nourished me; I absorbed it steadily and converted it into raw power.
“I see. Everything’s damn purple. Brings back awful memories of those Miasmic Beasts inside your Dungeon, Sylphy,” Beelzebub sighed.
“I detect we’re not alone. A large horde approaches…” Armageddon warned. “Shall I handle them?”
“No. For now, just watch, Armageddon. You’re far too destructive, and I’m not sure I can trust you with this yet.”
“What?!” She bristled with annoyance. “Are you saying I’m untrustworthy?! I am trustworthy! I’m a reliable spirit and familiar!”
“Hah, calm down. I know you’re eager to prove yourself, but hold back a little. You need to see how we operate here before you get hyped and accidentally blast half the dungeon,” I said. “The nobles were already terrified we’d wreck the place. I’d rather not give them that satisfaction.”
“Hmph…” She huffed. “Fine, whatever. I couldn’t care less about your stupid dungeon anyway.”
“Wow, you’re so mad,” Sapphire laughed, my Living Shield gleaming. “Relax.”
“Just watch and learn, girl,” Scarlet added, my Living Sword humming with anticipation. “Observe your seniors and you’ll figure out what to do.”
“Ugh…” Armageddon—clearly older than everyone present—grew more and more frustrated as she was treated like a child or a “junior.” The teasing was obviously striking a nerve, but I couldn’t help enjoying it. She sat way too high on her throne and needed a bit of humbling. “Fine. Do whatever you want… Tsk.”
She was a temperamental goddess, but she obeyed and drifted to the rear. Moments later, heavy rumbling echoed through the cave, and a swarm of over thirty monsters charged straight at us.
“What Rank is this Dungeon anyway?” Ignatius asked, already beginning to transform into his True Dragon Spirit Form. His body swelled to over twenty meters long—and he could grow infinitely larger by devouring fire.
“Originally Rank C,” I explained. “Monsters ranged from Tier 5 to 6. With the Miasmic boost they’ve received, they’re now hitting Tier 8… probably many are pushing Tier 9!”
“Hoh, not bad!” Ignatius roared, expanding further as searing heat poured from his body. “Sylphy! Let’s take care of them!”
“Yeah, let’s do it, Ignatius,” I nodded firmly. “I’ll charge with Ignatius. Everyone else, cover our backs, handle any that slip past us or flank from the sides!”
“SURE!”
The group roared in unison. The ground shook. Dust clouds kicked up by pounding footsteps cleared, revealing Giant Horned Polar Bears—the most common monster here. Normally white bears with ice horns sprouting from their skulls and sometimes ice armor coating their fur.
The Miasmic Curse had twisted them brutally. They had ballooned from five meters to fifteen meters tall. Their azure ice horns and armor had turned sickly purple, sprouting razor-sharp spikes. Their forms grew even more monstrous: extra limbs, long barbed tails, enormous claws.
“ROOOAARRRR!”
As they bellowed, I saw that most of their bodies were now fully encased in thick Miasmic Ice Armor. Tough opponents, especially once I checked their status.
[Giant Horned Polar Bear – Curse Of Miasma Corruption Form (Tier 8: Rank 7)]
“Wow! Okay! Almost Tier 9! These guys mean business!” I grinned. “Let’s go, Ignatius!”
“Gotchaaaaaa!” Ignatius thundered.
RUMBLE!
I unleashed my Fire Draconification in an instant. Red scales spread across my skin, wings erupted from my back, and a long draconic tail lashed behind me. Horns and claws sprouted from my head and hands. A wild surge of power and adrenaline flooded my heart and veins.
Like twin blazing meteors, we hurled ourselves at the enemy. Our bodies ignited fully, merging into one massive, combined explosion that engulfed the entire front line.
BOOOMMM!!!
Flames roared outward in a devastating wave. Many monsters incinerated on contact, shrieking as the inferno swallowed them. Smoke choked the air.
I leaped through the blaze and saw Ignatius roaring triumphantly, swinging enormous claws to grab and tear apart one of the polar bears. Three more lunged at him—only to pass straight through his blazing spiritual body and burn alive from the inside.
“Gahahahaha! Yeah! I’m not weak at all! Tier 8 monsters are nothing to meeeeee!”
He drew on my Mana to swell even larger, channeling more and more blazing might. Though he wasn’t naturally on their level, his nature as my Spirit let him scale his power dramatically. His Skills were all high-ranked, and he had trained relentlessly while consuming Fire Attribute materials to sharpen his magic and abilities.
On my side, six monsters targeted me. Three struck instantly. I raised Sapphire to block their massive claws, then triggered her counter skills. She absorbed the impact and unleashed dozens of water-and-ice serpents that surged forward and detonated against their heads.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
I shifted focus to Scarlet next, channeling her powers into the blade. Rainbow Flames and Thunder crackled along the edge, boosting attack power and speed. With one sweeping slash, I cleaved through three more monsters. Their bodies resisted for a heartbeat before collapsing under the accumulated damage from our initial charge.
SLAAASH!
The first wave was gone, but more poured in from the left and right. Giant Horned Polar Bears weren’t alone. Humanoid figures covered in white-and-purple fur appeared—monkey-like faces, razor fangs, wielding enormous axes and hammers forged from miasmic ice.
[Abominable Yeti Warriors – Curse Of Miasma Corruption Form (Tier 8: Rank 9)]
Twelve-meter-tall weapon masters, infamous in ice dungeons. Five of them reached me, swinging colossal axes and hammers to crush me flat.
“Haaaah!”
I parried swiftly with sword and shield. Their five-meter weapons flew back into their own bodies from the force. As they staggered, I summoned Wooden Roots that erupted from the ground, impaling and coiling around them. I infused the trees with blazing dragonfire, turning them into pillars of flame that consumed the Yetis alive while pinning them in place.
“WRAAAAHHH!”
But more kept coming, attacking in coordinated waves. They conjured miasmic ice magic, blanketing the area in freezing mist while swinging their weapons. Blow after blow began to land.
Until they buried me completely in a tomb of miasmic ice.
“Ah, it’s really cold.”
The chill seeped into my bones. I unleashed my Draconic Aura in a furious burst. A colossal dragon of pure aura materialized around me, smashing its fist into the ice and shattering the prison apart.
BOOOMMM!!!
