Chapter 1967: The Plane Of Fate

Ding!
[After you’ve demonstrated your incredible abilities as a Monster Hunter, the System has blossomed with a new developing function: Drop Items.]
[To solve the problem of constantly relying on Quests, the Drop Item System will allow you to obtain rewards based on the monsters you hunt and how strong they were.]
[Do you wish to unlock the new Drop Item System?]
[Cost: 200,000,000 EXP.]
[Yes] [No]
After slaying the monsters and deciding to take a short break, I was shocked when this window appeared out of nowhere. I had already been feeling a little disappointed that I was locked into that long quest with my master to craft the cauldron, so I could no longer accept the smaller quests I usually received when fighting monsters and bosses inside dungeons.
Apparently, Alice had been working on this in secret and prepared it as a surprise to cheer me up. She’s always thinking about me, and I truly appreciate how sweet and caring she is as a friend… well, at this point we’re basically like sisters.
She spread her little fairy-like arms wide, smiling brightly. “Go ahead, Sylphy! This is my gift to you. Although it requires a lot of EXP, you’ll receive far more rewards from this new system!”
“It sounds awesome!” I said. “Okay, two hundred million EXP is nothing if I can get items like this!”
Convinced the price was absolutely worth it, I pressed [Yes] without hesitation. In that instant, I felt the EXP—the stored Soul Energy—drain from my reserves and flow straight into Alice.
FLAAASH!
Alice absorbed the energy, and within her a new System Seed formed. Instead of dropping it to develop on its own, she nurtured it inside her womb.
Slowly, her belly swelled, and she became pregnant!
“Woah?!”
As I gasped at the sight, Alice smiled warmly, gently caressing her stomach before shining with brilliant light.
The glow was so intense I had to shield my eyes.
Yet through the radiance, I glimpsed a silhouette emerging from her belly, like a blooming white lily.
Slowly the figure took shape beside her—a small Spirit of immense power.
The spirit resembled a tiny white fairy like Alice, about a third of her size. It was somewhat humanoid, composed of glowing white light, with short hair and delicate wings.
Then it looked at me and flew straight toward my chest, piercing through and entering my soul.
“Eh!?”
FLUOSH!
A sudden surge of power spread through my entire being. The surroundings warped and distorted rapidly until the dungeon vanished completely.
“What’s happening?!”
Completely unable to grasp what was going on, I found myself somewhere else.
White.
An endless expanse of white light illuminated everything—so bright and overwhelming I felt I couldn’t bear it.
Yet this White Light seemed familiar, like a power—or rather an “essence” or “source”—that the System had processed before.
“Fate? Causality…”
The force that primarily fuels the System’s incredible abilities: Causality and Fate itself. The power to alter Fate creates ripples through reality, allowing the System to change the world or any target within it.
This was one of the secrets behind how the System could create things from seemingly nothing!
However, this place—this entire realm or plane where light emanated everywhere—felt even more profound.
This little System Spirit, Alice’s small son, had connected me directly to this mysterious Plane.
“It seems the connection was made successfully.”
“Eh?”
I looked behind me and narrowed my eyes to see Alice floating there. She drifted closer and gently settled on my shoulder.
“W-What is this place?!” I asked desperately.
“Calm down, Sylphy, it’s okay,” Alice said. “This place is technically harmless. It is the Plane of Fate, where Fate itself exists as endless light. Through the Planes that form your Reality, light seeps in and forms Fate. It is an intangible power—an energy, or something like it—that influences the ’path’ of all things toward a certain predestined goal. It is like a blueprint for all of Reality; universes follow this blueprint, existing and ending according to what it determines is the best possible outcome for the continued existence and rebirth of everything.”
I gasped at the revelation. “I-I… Wait, is there any lifeform here?”
“We’re merely projections; you cannot enter the Plane of Fate physically,” Alice explained. “And if there are lifeforms… even I’m not entirely sure. I once speculated that my father originated from here, but then I remembered he was likely from the Plane of Souls.”
“Plane of Souls?” I asked.
“Oblivion,” she said. “It is where the souls of all living beings in Reality typically go to reincarnate. The Gods of Reincarnation are lifeforms born between the Plane of Fate and the Plane of Souls; they possess no true physical bodies either. They are Living Laws. That… that is the origin of my father. And we Systems are their lesser children, made of something similar. Our purpose is to help them perform their duties more efficiently and to assist chosen ones within the Material Plane, where all physical matter exists. Whenever a disturbance disrupts the cycle of reincarnation they manage, they send us to aid a chosen physical being in resolving the issue so the cycle can resume. Now… I see why my father wanted to send someone here.”
“You do?” I asked, utterly shocked by her words.
“Yes. This world, this planet, is disrupting the flow of reincarnation after all,” she nodded. “I believe it is the Gods’ fault. They have discovered and created technology fueled by the infinite energy generated when souls are trapped in constant anguish and emotional turbulence, then compressed within a small space. That is the power they use to run their machines, their giant spaceships, and even the heavenly realms they weave inside them.”
“…!” My eyes widened at a revelation I really hadn’t expected. “So your purpose…?”
“I have no purpose, though. I was discarded and sent with you because he summoned your soul for reincarnation by mistake,” she said. “You see, Gods of Reincarnation usually select Souls with very good Karma—a positive substance that forms when a Soul positively influences others within the Plane of Souls. The God then chooses this special Soul and asks for their help. Generally they’re good people who won’t hesitate to assist, promising to solve the problem… He, as a young god of reincarnation, made the mistake of choosing someone from a world not usually selected for reincarnations of this caliber… your world, and you. The true chosen one might have already arrived here with a proper, unglitched System. Their goal is to destroy the gods and stop them from interfering with the cycle of reincarnation.”
“T-That’s… it…” I muttered. “So that’s how it is… But you didn’t remember this before, did you?”
“No,” she shook her head. “I think he tried to delete a lot of my memories about these things, but I remembered now. Sylphy, the source of your Infinite Mana is directly tied to me and the connection we had with my father. That means… the real source of your Mana is within the Plane of Souls.”
“…” I looked around, awed by the revelation.
“You’ve become something akin to a living gate to the Plane of Souls,” she explained. “This is most likely why you can so easily accumulate EXP, which is Soul Essence. Over time, you might even become a Goddess of Reincarnation… or something else entirely. Perhaps you would become a Living Plane of Souls itself.”
“Eeeeh?!” I gasped. “I don’t want that…”
“It might or might never happen,” she chuckled.
“Okay, well, thank you for all the exposition, but can you tell me why we’re here anyway?” I asked.
“To further improve myself, I had to create a connection to the Plane of Fate,” she said. “Because the Systems created by the Gods of Reincarnation are fueled by Causality, which is born from Fate…”
