Chapter 1979: Preparing for Scarlet and Sapphire’s Evolutions
—–
“Yeah, I’m glad you never got your hands on anything like that, or Aquarina and her family would’ve been lost…” I sighed. “This Cursed Miasma is just way too powerful; it makes even the simplest monsters far stronger than they should be. It feels almost unfair.”
“It’s a curse born from an Evil God… unfair by design because it draws on Divinity, a force above the world’s laws,” Nephilim explained as she walked toward me. “Sylphy, you’ve gathered quite a haul of items…”
“Ah, yeah,” I nodded. “These items…”
I glanced at the earlier message listing everything I had obtained.
[The {Reward System} has been activated. Congratulations, you have received several Rewards!]
[You have collected: [Lesser Soul Orb (C Grade)] x107]
[You have collected: [Spirit Orb (C Grade)] x64]
[You have collected: [Frozen Forest Monster Spiritual Heart Crystal (B Grade)] x33]
[You have collected: [Frozen Forest Monster Skill Scroll Fragment (C Grade)] x6]
[You have collected: [Small Frozen Forest Monster Treasure Chests (C+ Grade)] x11]
“Not bad,” I said. “I think I can use most of this right now… But these skill scroll fragments are the real curiosity. Why do they come in pieces?”
“So you can collect enough to combine them into a complete Skill Scroll,” Alice answered. “More new items will start dropping soon, so look forward to that.”
“Nice. Okay, I guess it’s time to evolve you two,” I said to Scarlet and Sapphire. “Come here… Alright, I’ve decided to give the heart to…”
Both stared at me nervously.
“Look, there are thirty-three smaller hearts I can give to the others, so why fight over it?”
“Even thirty-three won’t compare to that one—it’s a treasure among treasures…!” Scarlet protested.
“Yeah!” Sapphire agreed.
“Ugh, I don’t want you two fighting and then resenting each other—or me—for whoever I choose,” I sighed. “So I’m making the wisest decision and…!”
“Eh?!”
“Ah!”
They both yelped in shock as I conjured a sword from my Flames of Strength and sliced the heart cleanly in half with precise control.
Using Alchemy, I immediately sealed the leaking spiritual energy and refined the halves into two balanced spiritual hearts.
“There! Now you can’t fight over it, and neither can hate me! You both get one half. Suck it up!” I laughed.
“Eeeeh?!”
“What?!”
They looked clearly annoyed, their dragon-like decorations twisting into angry expressions, but I just kept laughing before moving on.
“Alright, let’s assign these… the shapeshifting weapon goes to Scarlet, the spirit armor to Sapphire,” I decided.
“I’ll also add Spirit Orbs—thirty to each.
And the smaller hearts? Fifty apiece.
As for the Soul Orbs, we’ll use them to enlarge your souls so you become much stronger overall. Fifty each! Yeah, I’m generous—your next evolution is going to be huge.
We’ll need new metals too. I still have a stash of Orichalcum saved up, and we can use Armageddon’s exoskeleton fragments—why not?
Hey, Armageddon, fetch me your best divine metals.”
“Ok.”
She vanished and returned ten seconds later through a burning portal, carrying large clusters of dark red, orange, purple, and blue metals harvested from her divine realm.
“I’ve also brought divine spirit stones of fire, stone, earth, and magma elements. Want some pseudo-divine monster parts as materials too?”
“Can you get them?” I asked.
“Can do,” she replied flatly.
“Ok, bring me the strongest ones,” I nodded.
“Ok.”
She disappeared again and reappeared shortly after, dragging the severed head of a giant dragon-like monster with red-and-purple scales and golden horns, a massive black serpent, and a colossal ant-like beast.
“This is it. I recommend incorporating the materials you’ve already collected from previous monsters as well… This will be a huge ritual. Does anyone else here know Alchemy?”
“We’ve helped her before, but we’re not experts,” Yggdra said. “We can support her with our spiritual power.”
“I can do Alchemy…” Violet offered quietly. “I always help Master…”
“Right, you’re basically a living alchemy cauldron,” Armageddon noted. “It would be better if she evolved, but her level isn’t high enough yet. I guess… it can’t be helped. I’ll assist you.”
“Really?!” I beamed.
“Why not…” she muttered, shrugging. “Whatever—just get to it already! Why are you staring at me with that huge smile?! Disgusting! I hate how you mammals make those weird facial expressions…”
As an insect, she genuinely found our expressive faces repulsive. I could understand that—her own rigid exoskeleton couldn’t show much beyond mild irritation or full-blown rage.
“Ouch, so angry! But okay,” I chuckled, patting her head. “You’re cute when you’re mad, haha.”
“GRRRRRR!”
She hissed, mandibles snapping open as flames licked out.
“Hahaha! Okay, okay, yikes,” I waved my hands. “Now let’s begin—wait, let me open these first.”
Before starting the ritual, I turned to the small treasure chests I had collected. They were all blue and frost-themed, so they might contain useful materials.
I opened them one by one. The chests vanished after revealing their contents.
[You have opened the [Small Frozen Forest Monster Treasure Chests (C+ Grade)] x11]
[You have received the following contents]:
[Lesser Soul Orb (C Grade)] x55]
[Spirit Orb (C Grade)] x32]
[Frozen Forest Monster Spiritual Heart Crystal (C+ Grade)] x11]
[Cursed Frost Weapon: Permafrost Miasma Blade (C+ Grade)] x3]
[Spiritual Frozen Forest Weapon: Freezing Tree Bow (C+ Grade)] x4]
[Cursed Frost Weapon: Cursed Frost Fire Hammer (C+ Grade)] x2]
[Spiritual Frozen Forest Weapon: Winter Tree Spirit Spear (C+ Grade)] x2]
[Cursed Frost Weapon: Permafrost Miasmic Winter Shield (C+ Grade)] x1]
[Cursed Frost Lich Ring (C+ Grade)] x2]
[Frozen Forest Dryad Queen’s Crown Fragment (C Grade)] x11]
“Okay, not bad—lots of useful stuff,” I said, examining everything. “Some hammers, bows, blades, spears, and one big evil shield… They carry the curse, but will they affect us negatively?”
“They’re regenerated by the system, so the Evil God can’t control their power anymore,” Alice explained. “We’ve essentially absorbed and repurposed that power—stolen it for ourselves.”
“That sounds even better. Okay… More orbs, hearts, and… two rings plus eleven crown fragments. What are these?” I wondered, slipping on one of the rings.
The ring was crafted from cold blue steel with a skull-shaped icy crystal on top.
The moment I wore it; the power of death surged through me. I released it, and a tall skeleton clad in ice materialized, a “Cursed Frost Skeleton.”
“What? Summoning?” I muttered.
I tried summoning more and discovered I could call up to thirty of them… They were fairly weak and would likely be crushed by the monsters here, but the ability itself was intriguing. I decided to use them as materials—one for each weapon—and see how they influenced the final result.
