Chapter 1992: Standing Up For Myself
—–
“We apologize for our rudeness. We had forgotten you were the princess and also a hero… You have free roaming rights in any dungeon. Please excuse us!” The two guards quickly stepped aside.
“Hmph. I’ll let it slide today,” I said, stepping forward. “Come on, everyone— What?”
I noticed everyone staring at me with surprised expressions. Don’t tell me they thought I would always stay soft and kind? I have my own temperament too.
“Whew, I can tell you’re your mother’s daughter,” Aquarina laughed. “You’ve got her attitude sometimes… I wonder if you’re going to act even more like her as you grow older.”
“Hey, what’s wrong with standing up for myself?” I replied. “I have so many things to do and a big plan ahead. I cannot be bothered by what some foolish people say about me. If they keep looking down on me all the time, I’ll happily stop being Miss Nice Girl and show them exactly how merciful I’ve always been. They can complain and insult me as much as they want—but they’d better do it behind my back. Because if I see them acting like that to my face, I will remind them why the Elven Kingdom is the strongest in the world.”
“Wow, okay, that’s kind of hot but—hahaha,” Aquarina patted my shoulders. “Relax. Are you stressed?”
“A little… Let’s just get this over with. I want a warm bath and dinner,” I yawned. “But the sooner we finish, the better.”
“Hm, alright,” Aquarina nodded, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead.
“Ah, sorry about that. Was I scary?” I asked. “I’m still the same Sylphy you know, haha. But we all have to grow up eventually and start acting like adults. If I keep behaving like a child and let others trample over me—no, over us—it will only get worse over time. Humility can sometimes be a weakness exploited by those who want nothing more than to see you suffer. That’s… something I learned the hard way through my life.”
“Wow, okay girl, you talk like you’re forty or something,” Celeste sighed. “We get it.”
“There’s nothing wrong with that, big sis. I would’ve done the same if you hadn’t,” my brother nodded. “When they insult us or treat us like people they can trample, they’re not just insulting us—they’re insulting the Kingdom and our family. And that is obviously a serious crime.”
“Hm, there’s nothing wrong with being like that. It’s cool!” Celica said.
“Yeah… You felt really dependable there, Sylphy—even more than usual,” Mist smiled. “It felt like your mom was here with us. She’s always been super dependable. Whenever she’s around, I always feel safe, like nothing could possibly go wrong.”
“Hahaha, you’re comparing me too much to her!” I cried. “I-I’m not that much like Mom!”
As we entered the Swamp Shrimp Dungeon, we were greeted by a vast swamp stretching across a long cave, with several branching tunnels running beneath the water. The preferred way to travel was by magic boats or simply floating with spells, but not everyone was skilled enough for that—most adventurers stuck to normal boats.
This dungeon earned its name for an obvious reason: giant, monstrous shrimp monsters swarmed everywhere. The three bosses were a shrimp, a lobster, and a massive spider crab.
“We’ve hunted here a lot. We’ve stored what we got, and if we can purify the corpses, we could eat a ton of shrimp and crab at home,” my brother said.
“Sounds good, but we have to be careful. The deadly curse lingers in the corpses,” I replied. “Purification alone usually can’t destroy this new curse. The best we can do is use the corpses as materials for alchemy and such, then hunt fresh shrimp here.”
“Okay, I guess we can do that,” my brother nodded. “Ah, there’s a bunch over there.”
The swamp had been almost completely cleansed of miasma by now, so every new monster was healthy. A large swarm of Flying Swamp Shrimp—Tiers 5 monsters—appeared and attacked, leaping out of the water and gliding with gill-like wings.
They were easy to deal with. I sent Strength forward. With her blazing, burning fists, she punched them all away and took them down in seconds. Glutton stored the corpses.
“Like this, we’ve got ourselves some dinner.”
Now that I think about it, Alice and Yggdra once cooked me a stew using meat from the Glacial Dungeon monsters, but those weren’t cursed.
“Alice, do you know how to purify meat?” I asked.
“Well, aside from being your System, I’m also a Divine Spirit of Heaven and Celestial elements, Sylphy… You tend to forget that sometimes,” she said. “You barely ask me to fight nowadays.”
“I just don’t want you getting hurt, that’s all,” I said with a smile. “So you can purify it then?”
“Yes. Since I became your Spirit back when we made our Familiar Contract, I’ve already shown you my power. My entire existence is made of vast quantities of divine runes. When you channel them, you can unleash incredibly strong spells—don’t you remember?” she asked.
“Right. The first time I did it, I unleashed such a massive sword of light it split apart a giant demonic creature…” I nodded. “Anyway, the core is over there.”
With my Divine Eyes, I quickly located a source of Mana. I followed it and saw it interconnecting with many other sources.
By simply walking toward them and attuning to their Mana frequency, we reached the area where the core was hidden.
It was a cave accessible only underwater. We entered by swimming inside, using bubbles formed from our Auras.
Once inside, we found a vast, empty cavern. The Dimensional Stone covered the far wall.
There was a guardian, though—a golden-colored crab with blazing red eyes.
“Oh, a hidden boss?!” Zephyrus wondered.
“We didn’t catch that one!” Celica said.
“GROOOHHHH!”
The monster was a Tier 8 Golden Crab Emperor—a hundred-meter-tall giant crab with a shell as hard as mithril.
This thing could easily destroy an entire city if it wanted.
“Alright, let’s take care of this one and—”
SLAAASH!
Before my brother could act, I swung Scarlet.
A powerful slicing wave of burning divinity cut straight through the crab and killed it instantly.
BOOOM!
“Done.”
I ignored the corpse. We started punching and attacking the Dimensional Stone walls.
My brother stared at me in disbelief.
“I-I kind of wanted to fight it…”
“Come on now, we don’t have time for that, little bro.”
“Ugh, you’re right…”
