Chapter 220: Chapter 201: Just Change the Destination
Ji Xizhi was no stranger to being followed in a car. Although she wasn’t very familiar with such incidents in the entertainment industry, she was all too familiar with them before she entered the fictional world. She had experienced it many times; usually, these followers would tail her to a less crowded area and then deliberately cause a collision, followed by kidnapping.
Ji Xizhi didn’t even have time to think about who was following her; she instinctively opened the map on her phone and began searching.
Xiao Yuan, who was in the driver’s seat, had just been muttering about the content of a study course when she heard the news about someone following them. Her entire demeanor became tense immediately, “Who? Where? Which car is following us?”
Xiao Yuan’s whole body tensed up, and she looked into the rearview mirror.
Without raising her head, Ji Xizhi hinted, “The black one.”
The moment Ji Xizhi spoke, Xiao Yuan quickly noticed that car.
The car wasn’t following closely, and the road was quite busy, which made it relatively hidden and hard to spot as a tailing car. It was only after Ji Xizhi pointed it out that Xiao Yuan kept an eye on it for a while and noticed something was off.
In the entertainment circle, this kind of car tailing happened way too frequently; many artists had encountered such situations, and it’s fair to say they’ve all been harassed this way.
Most of the people following cars were trying to pry into celebrities’ private lives. Many in the circle had written articles angrily condemning this, but there was simply no controlling it, and it was hard to legally protect oneself against it.
With a large fan base, such incidents became unavoidable. Ji Xizhi was currently high in the popularity charts within the circle, so occurrences like these were only a matter of time. Previously, she hadn’t faced it much because of fewer engagements.
Xiao Yuan had mentally prepared herself in advance and even took special driving lessons to learn some tricks on how to shake off a tail.
Now that they really encountered a tailing car, Xiao Yuan was still a bit nervous. She gripped the steering wheel tightly and said, “Zhi Zhi, sit tight. I’ll handle this; I’ll figure out a way to lose them!”
Xiao Yuan glanced at the road conditions and planned to change lanes.
Ji Xizhi was still looking down at her phone when she heard Xiao Yuan’s tense words. Only then did she lift her head and calmly said, “No need to lose them. There are many cars now; be careful of traffic accidents. Just keep driving.”
Xiao Yuan: “But… if we don’t lose them, they might follow us back to our neighborhood!”
If they indeed followed them back to the community, Zhi Zhi’s private life might be captured and turned into a comic strip.
Although Zhi Zhi’s private life had nothing shameful and was positively influential, in today’s environment, even eggs could be picked for bones, and there were a lot of black fans of Zhi Zhi waiting for an opportunity. If too much was exposed, it would surely affect her life, not to mention some people who may take advantage of the situation for illegal acts.
The more Xiao Yuan thought about it, the more worried she became, and her face wrinkled with concern.
From the front passenger seat, Ji Xizhi observed this and gently reassured Xiao Yuan, saying, “It’s okay; they won’t follow us into the neighborhood.”
According to the usual pattern, when they reached a less crowded area, they would deliberately create a collision; they wouldn’t wait until they drove into the community.
Ji Xizhi was already very familiar with this set of procedures; her expression remained calm. She turned the navigation on her phone to the maximum volume and raised her brows, saying, “Xiao Yuan, let’s not go back to the neighborhood. Just change the destination.”
Xiao Yuan: “Huh? Not going back to the neighborhood? Are we going to…”
She was about to ask if Ji Xizhi intended to deliberately take a detour to shake off the people behind them. When she glanced down and saw the determined destination on Ji Xizhi’s phone navigation, her words dried up instantly.
Xiao Yuan: “………… Okay.”
Tough! Zhi Zhi is tough!
–
In the black car trailing behind Ji Xizhi’s van, there were two young men.
Both were wearing baseball caps and black masks, and the man in the passenger seat had a camera hanging around his neck. There was also a large black bag in the backseat of the car.
The man in the passenger seat was closely eyeing Ji Xizhi’s van ahead with caution, saying, “Do you think they found out? Why does their speed keep changing?”
The driver responded, “Impossible. If they had found out, they would’ve tried to run already. There are many cars on the road now, so the speed changes are normal.”
The passenger reminded, “Be careful not to follow too closely; don’t get noticed!”
“I know, I know. There are enough cars here, so we won’t get discovered. Besides, even if we are spotted, so what? We spent so much money coming to A City just to see her once. Even if Zhi Zhi notices us, at most, she’ll say a few words. She can’t do much, and I don’t mind being scolded by her because I just want to know more about her. She’s so nice to her fans; she won’t blame us!”
“That’s easy to say, but if we can confirm which neighborhood she lives in this time, we can come back next time. We’re not familiar with this area, and we wouldn’t have known Ji Xizhi was around here if it wasn’t for running into her by accident. This time, it’s a chance that presented itself; drive carefully!”
“Alright, trust my driving skills!”
The two exchanged words back and forth.
The passenger also opened his phone and saved each page of Ji Xizhi’s job application that Director Jin had just posted on the trending topics to his album. He even saved the screenshots of Ji Xizhi’s replies to fans on Shanli.
After saving everything, he turned on his camera, aiming it at the van ahead and took several continuous shots.
The van kept moving, maintaining an average speed, showing no sign of suspecting a tail. The two young men relaxed quickly, continuing to follow the vehicle.
Ji Xizhi’s van drove off the main road onto a smaller one and soon stopped by the roadside.
The two young men in the trailing car were taken aback.
They casually glanced out the car window.
The driver said, “Why did they stop? Did they spot us?”
The passenger leaned forward to glance ahead, then eagerly prepared his camera.
“Probably, but don’t worry. Wait a bit and play dead. If all goes wrong, Ji Xizhi will definitely come over to knock on our window and tell us not to follow. Then we can ask for autographed photos and selfies, see her in person, then come up with another plan!”
The driver, hearing this, found it plausible. Other celebrities they had followed before had reacted the same way.
He simply turned off the engine and reached for the large black bag in the backseat, unzipping it.
He pulled out a small stack of Ji Xizhi postcards from the side of the bag, scattering them on the car, and began picking through them.
He heard a “knock knock knock” outside the car window.
The passenger had just adjusted his camera when he heard the knocking, instinctively thinking Ji Xizhi had arrived. He was so excited that he lowered the car window immediately, not even checking who was outside, and started snapping photos with his camera.
“Click click click click click,” was the sound of the shutter.
Along with the shutter sound came a stern male voice, “Hello, sir. Please do not take photos indiscriminately.”
The passenger was stunned: why was it a man’s voice?
He widened his eyes and looked through the camera at the newly captured photo.
Blue uniform… with a badge and numbers…
Where was Ji Xizhi?
It was, in fact, an officer—Police!
