Scum Man Cannot Redeem Himself - Chapter 149

Chapter 149
That day, Nei’er pushed open the courtyard door and found a teen child squatting by the wall outside with a puffy face and ragged clothes. She was unable to identify whether he was a boy or a girl.
She was not very old and the person looked the same age as her, so she asked curiously, “Whose family are you from? Why are you squatting in front of our yard?”
The child blinked and looked at her, then looked down and was silent.
She asked a few more times, but got no response, thinking he might be a mute she ran into the courtyard and called out Xiuping.
The child’s head was bowed in silence.
The two were sure that the child was a mute. He looked thin, small, and dirty, really strange and pitiful. Sister Xiuping asked Nei’er to go to the kitchen to get two pieces of cake, and stuffed them into the hands of the child.
When the child saw the food, his eyes immediately glowed and he gobbled it up.
“How pitiful!” Nei’er said with pity.
“Yes! I don’t know how many days he hasn’t eaten.”
Xiuping felt compassion for the child. But they were servants and may not be able to help the child.
“Child, when you’re done eating, go beg for food elsewhere!” Xiuping also did not know whether the child could hear or not. Her boss had opened a welfare home, “Go to Fuqing City, there is a welfare home. You are young, the welfare home will take you.”
“Nie’er, go get some more cakes for him to eat on the road.”
Thinking of the long journey, she added, “Bring a few more.”
Nie’er, “Yes!” She said and ran to the kitchen.
She took out all the remaining cakes and gave them to the boy.
The two of them thought the matter was over, but the next day, the child was squatting by the wall in the courtyard again.
The third day was still the same. He ate the cake and left so on and so forth.
Gradually the group knew that there was such a small beggar squatting in the doorway every day, waiting for food.
If it was ordinary days, Xiuping may have dared to bring him into the house to ask the madam and the girl if he could stay. But Flower Boss repeatedly instructed them that Ning Qing must stay away from any strangers.
That day, the little beggar came again. Xiuping, Nei’er, Mother Shen surrounded the child discussing what to do.
Ning Qing was still too busy those days, either in the field to deal with follow-up problems, or in the house to calculate the books.
When Ning Qing came out of the workshop, she saw several of them gathered around a child and asked, “What’s going on?”
Xiuping described the situation.
After listening, Ning Qing said, “Go wash the child, change him into clean clothes, and then ask the nursing home to send the child to the welfare home.”
The child was still young. So it would be more appropriate to send him to the welfare home and to attend a voluntary school than to stay by her side.
With her instructions, they led the child into the courtyard immediately.
After some cleaning, everyone found the little boy, with clear eyebrows, was quite good-looking.
But when they wanted to take him to a welfare home, the child suddenly ran into the house, hiding behind Ning Qing, shaking his head. The meaning was obvious. He did not want to leave.
If the child had come before, Ning Qing may have only thought that the child and her had a destiny. She would not hesitate to keep the child as she could still afford to feed him a bowl of rice.
But with the situation she was in, Ning Qing had to be vigilant.
Such a large movement certainly attracted the attention of Zhang Rulan. She walked into Ning Qing’s house and saw the child behind her, “Where did this child come from?”
“A wandering child. I just changed his clothes. I didn’t expect him to be a handsome little boy.” Ning Qing replied to her mother with a smile, “I wanted to send him to Flower Boss’s welfare home, but the boy seemed unwilling to go.”
Zhang Rulan’ face turned ugly, “Hurry up and send him away. Don’t just take him home if you don’t know where he comes from. The world is very big. There are too many children like this. We are not running a charity hall. Besides, we are still in trouble. So don’t add some trouble to it. Give him more food and tell him to leave.”
After saying that, Zhang Rulan left.
Ning Qing felt the child’s thin little body obviously tense up when he heard them talking.
Was the child not deaf and dumb? So, turning to the child, she said, “How about I take you to the welfare home? There is food there every day, and you can also listen to the teacher’s lecture.”
The child lowered his head again and did not speak, but it was obvious that his body was trembling slightly.
“You’ve been in the welfare home? Was it bad there, you do not want to go back? If yes, nod your head, if not, shake your head, okay?” Ning Qing was very patient and her tone of voice was extra soft.
She tilted her head slightly and met the child’s gaze.
When the child’s gaze touched Ning Qing’s eyes, his eyes reddened and he nodded his head slightly.
The child could really hear, and several other people huffed.
“Can you speak?” Ning Qing asked again.
The child looked at the other people present and lowered his head again, which meant that he only wanted to talk with Ning Qing alone.
She understood and told them to go out first.
Sister Xiuping said, “Girl ……” She shook her head toward Ning Qing, reminding her to pay attention.
Ning Qing smiled. How could she be vigilant against a child?
When the others went out, Ning Qing asked again, “Can you talk to sister now?”
The child nodded.
