Chapter 1226: Imbuing elements (3)
Only this time, something different happened with this hobgoblin.
There wasn’t a layer of ice that suddenly appeared around the hobgoblin like it did with the zombie.
Instead, the blue light seemed to disappear without a trace after appearing for a while. If one didn’t see it earlier, they wouldn’t have even known that the blue light had been there.
The hobgoblin just stood there as if nothing changed.
Puffer was silent for a bit as she observed the changes with the hobgoblin, but once those changes stopped, she turned back around to ask, “What happened to it? Do you know what’s going on?”
I didn’t say anything as I focused on the hobgoblin as well.
Even though there were no external signs that there were any changes with the hobgoblin, I could tell that there were internal changes happening with it.
The connection between us allowed me to sense the changes that were happening inside of the hobgoblin.
I could feel the energy that was boiling inside of the hobgoblin.
With how intense it was, it was as if it was about to burst forth, but it seemed like the hobgoblin was able to hold back that energy in the end.
As I observed the hobgoblin, I could feel that with a single thought, the energy inside of the hobgoblin would burst forward.
So I waved my hand at Puffer and said, “Come over here so you aren’t caught up in it.”
Puffer was surprised to hear this, but there was no hesitation in her actions as she left the cage and came over to my side. There was even a trace of expectation and excitement in her eyes as she waited to see what I would do.
Once she left the cage, I also had the skeleton move away from the hobgoblin before giving the command.
“Freeze.”
As soon as this command was given, there was a layer of ice that appeared around the hobgoblin. It was just that this layer of ice was different from the layer of ice that had appeared around the zombie.
Instead of sticking to the hobgoblin, it was as if there was a layer of separation between the hobgoblin and the ice that formed. It was as if there was something that was keeping that ice from reaching the hobgoblin.
But that layer only prevented the ice from coming towards the hobgoblin.
It didn’t prevent the ice from spreading outwards around the hobgoblin.
The ice continued to spread, almost as if it would freeze the entire world.
It reached the edge of the cage before I told the hobgoblin to stop.
Only when I gave this order did the hobgoblin stop releasing the ice around itself.
The ice that had already been created remained and it didn’t seem like it was going to melt at all. That was just how powerful the ice magic that the hobgoblin used was.
It was to the point where there was a strange excited look on Puffer’s face.
It was as if she couldn’t wait to get her hands into the hobgoblin, as if she wanted to cut right into him.
But that wasn’t the only test that I had in mind.
Just this alone wouldn’t be enough to get excited about, there was still more to test if I wanted to see if imbuing elemental energy into a hobgoblin was worth it.
“Create icicles and shoot them.”
When the hobgoblin received this order, it raised its hand just like a magician would and there was ice elemental energy that gathered there in the form of a blue glow. It really seemed like it was a magician with the way that it gathered that ice elemental energy around its hand.
Only the icicles that formed weren’t really considered icicles.
The hobgoblin had just had ice elemental energy crammed into its body, so it wasn’t as if it was skilled enough to use it properly.
Instead of forming actual icicles, there were small chunks of ice that formed in the air as the hobgoblin did what it could to try and form icicles.
It really seemed like the hobgoblin was doing its best to learn how to use the ice elemental energy that it had been injected with, but it lacked the ability to do so.
But the most important thing was that it was trying to do this again and again.
It didn’t seem like it was about to give up that easily.
Perhaps it was because it was an undead and didn’t have a will of its own, so what it was doing was just following the order that I gave it.
However, there was something strange about the way that the hobgoblin continued to use the ice elemental energy like that. The way that it continued trying to form the icicles was almost as if it had an endless amount of ice elemental energy.
It was as if it wouldn’t run out no matter how much it used.
But that shouldn’t be since there was only a limited amount of that ice elemental energy inside of the orb in the first place. It shouldn’t have been an amount that would be enough for the hobgoblin to continue using it like this.
I closed my eyes to sense the situation inside of the hobgoblin’s body and I was shocked to sense what was happening.
It was that the orb seemed to be generating more ice elemental energy.
It was as if the orb made the ice elemental energy that it absorbed its own and it was generating more ice elemental energy based on that. It didn’t seem like there was a limit to how much ice elemental energy could be drawn out.
Only I knew better than that.
After all, I had the information from the Holy Empire about how the four empires had taken down the demons.
They had attacked them until they ran out of that corrupted energy.
So I knew that there was a limit to how much energy could be generated by the orb.
But for now, it didn’t seem like there was a limit to the orb’s regeneration.
With how the hobgoblin didn’t have a will of its own, it seemed like it would continue casting
spells until it fulfilled the order that I gave it.
If I were to gather more of these hobgoblins…
