Chapter 1571: Rescue mission (11)

“How dare you harm me like this?!”

That was what the figure said after the ball of black energy opened up around him.

But then, there was a spasm that came from that figure.

It was as if there was something happening to the figure with the way that they shook like this.

Eventually, they calmed down…but the voice that came from the figure was different from before. Well, it wasn’t that the voice itself was different, it was that the tone of the voice was different.

“Let me go!”

This was a much more desperate voice compared to before.

The one from before was the voice of someone who was in control and this voice was the voice of someone that was being controlled.

This voice should be the original owner of the body, the one that had been taken over by the “divine artifact” that they mentioned.

So this change in tone was more than enough to confirm what we had been suspecting this entire time.

What followed was another spasm before the voice from before said, “Settle down! I’m giving you what you wanted, so stop fighting me!”

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a faint smile when I saw this.

This was just a perfect example of someone that had their body snatched with the way that the two sides of them were acting. One was trying to break free and one was trying to regain control.

But I quickly put my hand down on Joan’s head again before releasing the same light as before.

While they were fighting with each other for control of the body, that was the perfect opportunity to attack them. If I missed this chance, there was no telling when I would be able to get another chance like this.

If I missed this chance, they might even escape once they took over their body again.

Joan also realized this, so she took the divine energy that I gave her and mixed it with the divine energy that she got from the Mark of God.

Once again, another flame breath came out that was aimed at the figure.

Even though the figure was struggling, it could sense the danger that came from Joan’s flame breath.

One hand came up while the other hand reached out to stop that hand. It was clear that there was some kind of internal struggle that was happening inside of the figure over who would control the body.

But in the end, it seemed like the source of the corruption energy won as corruption energy suddenly appeared.

This corruption energy came up and formed a wall in front of the figure that obscured the view of the figure, but it wasn’t enough to stop the flame breath. The same thing happened where the flame breath purified the corruption energy as soon as it made contact.

However, defense wasn’t the reason why this corruption energy wall was raised.

Rather, it was just to provide cover while the figure ran.

When the flames cleared, the figure was no longer in the same place as before.

Instead, it was in a completely different place that was far away from where it had been previously.

However, it seemed like the flame breath had still made contact with the figure with the way that part of it was revealed again. It had only made contact with a small part of it, but there was a large part of that dark energy that was purified because of it.

Once this large part of the dark energy was purified, there was a change that appeared with the figure once more.

There was more shaking that came from the figure as if it was struggling against itself.

It was clear that the original personality of this figure was coming back and fighting against the one that had taken over its body.

“Just give up and let me take over! You can’t do anything with your weak powers!”

“I will never give up!”

There was more back and forth shouting between them as it seemed like the fighting between them was getting more and more intense.

This time, I didn’t do it alone.

This time, I called for everyone to help with attacking the figure.

They had been taking care of the other strange creatures and the corruption energy around us, but they had mostly taken care of them by this point. That meant that it was time to take care of the source.

“Everyone attack together!”

With that, there was another flame breath that was shot out by Joan at the figure.

The figure tried to fight back, but it seemed like it wasn’t even able to control the corruption energy anymore with the way that the wall that it summoned broke apart. It was clear that it was losing more and more of its power as more and more of itself was being purified.

It was to the point where even the weaker attacks were having an effect on it.

“Damn it all!”

That was what the dark energy controlling the figure said before suddenly breaking free.

The dark energy had been around the figure until it suddenly said this.

Once it said this, it broke free of the figure and started to run.

It was clear that it realized that there was no path forward for it, so it was making a break for it.

As soon as it broke free of the gnome, the dark energy took the form of a shadow. At the same time, the moment that it broke free, the gnome that it had attached to previously dropped to the ground.

There was still no artifact that could be seen, but there was no doubt that this shadow was the one that had been controlling the gnome.

“Don’t let it get away!”

After saying this, I pulled out the Staff of Earth while still providing divine energy for Joan.

I could feel the draining sensation coming from doing both at the same time, but we just couldn’t let this shadow escape.
