Chapter 1693: Investigation squad
The representative from the Sorcery Empire didn’t say anything when they made this request.
Instead, it seemed like they were distracted by something that was happening on the side.
Everyone just waited to see what the representative from the Sorcery Empire would say.
After a long silence, the representative from the Sorcery Empire finally spoke. However, what he said wasn’t related to them asking about exploring this place, but rather…
“The sages have just returned from exploring the area.”
Everyone was surprised to hear this, but then they listened with rapt attention.
If even the sages were moving, then that meant that this place was anything but normal.

The representative from the Sorcery Empire didn’t follow up after saying this. With the way that he paused, it was as if he was organizing information before sharing it with the others.

After another long silence, the representative from the Sorcery Empire finally said, “Extreme heat.”
“Huh?” Everyone seemed confused when they heard this.
Well, everyone except for me since I had already been expecting to hear this.
The representative from the Sorcery Empire continued by saying, “They’ve found that there’s an extreme heat that comes from these ruins. It was so intense that even the sages weren’t able to approach it easily. They didn’t want to risk anything, which was why they came back before finding anything noteworthy.”
The silence that followed was more than enough to show what everyone was thinking.
They were clearly disappointed that there wasn’t more information than this.
It was clear that they wanted something more concrete that they could discuss or create a plan from. However, this was the only report that the Sorcery Empire had given them, so there wasn’t anything that they could do about it.
After this awkward silence lingered for a bit, the representative from the Sorcery Empire cut through it to say, “Our Sorcery Empire has a proposal for everyone.”
Everyone was surprised to hear this, but there were many people that asked for him to continue.
They didn’t know what to do, so they were interested in seeing what proposal the Sorcery Empire had.
“We wish to create an investigation squad and draw on everyone’s powers. We don’t know what is down there, but we’re certain that if everyone works together, we will be able to figure it out.”
There was no hesitation this time.
Everyone immediately agreed to this.
They had already wanted to explore this place, but they had been waiting for the Sorcery Empire to agree to this.
However, if the Sorcery Empire were to propose something like this, then there was no reason for them to refuse.
But once something like this was decided on, there was something else that they had to decide.
“Who will be the leaders of this investigation squad?”
There was another silence that followed after this question was asked, but the silence that followed was different from before. It wasn’t that people weren’t willing to talk, it was just that they didn’t want to be the first to speak.
After all, the first to speak in a situation like this would have the worst position.
It was best to let someone else speak first and then try to take the spot for themselves.
However, things didn’t go the way that they wanted.
“We propose that King Zwein of the Kite Kingdom be the leader of the investigation team.”
I wasn’t the only one that was caught off guard by these words, the rest of the representatives were all caught off guard when they heard this.
“Why me?” I slowly asked in the end.
“It’s because of all the knowledge that you’ve shown. It seems like you’re the best one to lead this group.” The representative from the Sorcery Empire said without any hesitation.
I really didn’t know what to say, but it seemed like the others had something to say.
“That’s right, he should be the leader.”
“I can’t really think of anyone else to lead us.”
“I can’t even begin to count all of the time that we’ve been saved by his knowledge.”
It wasn’t everyone that said this, but it was a majority of people that said this.
When this many people spoke up, even the ones that wanted to oppose this couldn’t really say anything. After all, there just weren’t enough of them to say anything to have a meaningful impact.
So the only thing that they could do was…
“We accept this arrangement as well.”
At this point, it was best for them to cut their losses.
If they tried to go against this, then it was likely that they wouldn’t even be allowed to go with the investigation team. So it was best for them to go with the flow and get on the team first.
If they wanted to do something, that would come after they entered that place.
When I saw that everyone agreed to this, there really wasn’t anything left for me to say.
Since they were forcing this matter on me, the only thing that I could do was accept in the end…
But before accepting, there was something that I had to say.
“I hope that after I take this position as leader of the investigation team, everyone will listen to my instructions when we are inside. If anyone goes against it, I hope that they will not blame me if they were to lose their life.”
There was a silence that followed as no one knew how to reply to the serious tone that I had said this in.
However, I didn’t mind as I just waited for them to come back to their senses.
After a long silence, the representative from the Sorcery Empire spoke for everyone, “Naturally we’ll follow your majesty’s instructions inside.”
With that, it was settled.
Though I still had an uneasy feeling about all of this.
