After setting out of the town that the Sorcery Empire gathered everyone in, it didn’t take us long to reach the barrier that the Sage Council set up.

The reason that we had gathered here was because it was the closest place to the volcano. Otherwise, we would have gathered in the capital of the Sorcery Empire since it would give us a proper place to gather ourselves.

Once we arrived, there were sages that came forward to greet us.

These sages were the ones that were here to maintain the barrier to prevent anything from happening to the surrounding lands.

When they greeted us, the first thing that they asked was…

“Do you need us to do anything?”

I was the one that this question was directed to, but I knew that they weren’t asking this just because they wanted to help.

It was clear that these sages were asking this question for the same reason that the Azure Sage came to meet me. It was clear that they wanted to see if they could follow the investigation team down there.

It wasn’t because they wanted more benefits like the group from the Democratic Union.

The reason that these sages wanted to help was because they wanted to learn more about what was underneath the volcano.

They were doing this purely because they were scholars.

It was completely different from the materialistic views of the Democratic Union.

But I rejected them since I needed them to maintain the barrier around this place.

There was no telling what would happen, so it was best if they maintained the barrier just in case.

After all, I knew exactly what was hiding underneath the volcano and I knew that this thing wasn’t weak. If there were any backlash from that thing, then it would no doubt cause great harm to the surrounding area.

It was better to have this barrier than to not have it.

It was better to be safe than sorry.

Since the sages couldn’t follow the investigation group, the only thing that they could do was send some of their students to follow the investigation group.

To say no to the request of the sages wasn’t a good idea.

At the same time, it wasn’t as if it was bad to have more magicians as part of the investigation team.

So they were allowed to join, even if there were some people that felt that it was unfair.

But those people that felt it was unfair were those that had used sneaky tactics to bring more people in the first place. For people like them, there was no need to care about how they felt since they would complain no matter what.

After this matter was settled, the only thing that was left was to head under the volcano.

After accepting their requests, the sages were more than happy to help remove the barrier so we could enter.

With the help of the sages, we quickly made our way into the barrier.

But the moment that we entered the barrier.

“What is this heat?” That was the only thing that was on the mind of the group.

There was this wave of heat that hit us right in the face.

The reason that we hadn’t felt this heat before was because of the barrier that had separated this heat from the rest of the world. But this was an intense heat that really felt like it was about to melt us.

This was a heat that felt like it could burn the world itself.

As expected of the barrier that was created by sages, it had been able to make the outside world seem completely normal even though there was this intense heat here.

That just went to show how much power the sages possessed.

But just because we didn’t have a sage didn’t mean that we didn’t have a way to deal with this heat.

I nodded to the magicians that came with us and they immediately put up a spell around us.

It was a simple application of water and ice magic that didn’t take up much of their mana.

After all, they were students of the sages, so they weren’t that weak. As students of the sages, they were high grade magicians that could easily handle this kind of heat.

Once the heat was taken care of, I said to everyone, “This is just the beginning. I hope that everyone will brace themselves and prepare for what is to come.”

They seemed like they were ready to face anything.

With a nod, I continued leading everyone forward towards where the entrance was.

In the distance as the volcano, but at least it seemed like it was inactive now.

Under the volcano was the entrance to the cave that had been revealed because of the volcano’s eruption.

However, the one problem was that this cave was surrounded by lava.

In the end, this problem was solved by the magicians of the Sorcery Empire again who used their water spells to cool down the lava so we could enter the cave.

Only the moment that we reached the entrance, we could feel the heat once more even with the spells still active.
