Chapter 1845: Something’s wrong (6)
“Nothing at all?”
That was all I could ask after reading their reports.
No one said anything since there wasn’t anything that they could add to this.
At this point, everything had settled and there really wasn’t a single thing to show for it.
It was as if the forces of Destruction had completely abandoned everything and had run away.
But no matter how we looked at it, it really didn’t seem like the kind of thing that the forces of Destruction would do.
After all, they had plenty of chances to cause trouble for us. As long as they wanted, it would have been easy for them to set up a trap for us.
Yet they didn’t do that at all.
It really didn’t make any sense what the forces of Destruction were doing, which was why we were worried. There had to be something wrong that they would be acting like this.
“Is there really not a single thing?” I asked them once again.
However, it didn’t seem like they had anything to say when they heard this.
“Then I guess we can only assume that they took the threat that we posed seriously…”
No one seemed to agree with this since they could think of a few things that the forces of Destruction could do to mess with our racial alliance. Especially since there were still two of the Four Omens that we hadn’t faced yet.
War and Death, they were the most powerful of the Four Omens…
Yet they still didn’t do a thing when we closed in on them like this.
For that to happen, it meant that there was something for them to gain from not acting.
“In the end, will they break the seal on the God of Destruction? When that time comes, does that mean that we’ll have to fight a final battle?”
Once I said this, the looks on the faces of everyone at this meeting looked even uglier.
Even if Old Man Lancelot wanted revenge, that didn’t mean that he wanted everyone else to suffer for it. So in the end, Old Man Lancelot had the same look on his face as everyone else.
Everyone knew that this would be a destructive battle if we did have a final battle against the forces of Destruction and the God of Destruction.
This was why we had been trying to do everything that we could to keep the God of Destruction sealed.
“We don’t know how long it will take, but they are confident in hiding out. We have no idea where their headquarters are, so it isn’t as if there’s anything that we can do.”
Their faces looked even uglier when I said this.
“So is there anything that anyone knows at all?” I stressed these words as I said them.
I really was urging for anyone here to give us any kind of information at all.
The one that this was targeted at the most were the representatives of the ones that we had saved from these outposts. They were the victims of the forces of Destruction, but I really didn’t have the time to think about this right now.
After all, this was a matter of survival for the entire continent.
So even if they had suffered, I needed them to rack their brains for any kind of information that they had.
But in the end…
“I’m sorry, we don’t know anything else. We’ve already told you everything that we could remember.”
This wasn’t what I had been hoping to hear, but I could tell that they were serious about this.
It wasn’t as if we should have been expecting much from them since the forces of Destruction had been keeping them prisoner. Even if they looked down on these prisoners and talked in front of them, it wasn’t as if they would talk about anything important in front of them.
That would just be foolish and the forces of Destruction weren’t fools.
So in the end, we didn’t have a single bit of information even after destroying these ten outposts.
“At the very least, it means that they won’t be able to sneak up on us anymore. What we need to do now is strengthen ourselves and prepare for the upcoming fight.” I said in a resigned voice.
If I couldn’t force anything out of them with all of this, it meant that there was nothing to force.
After all of this, we had nothing to show for it other than being a step late.
But it wasn’t as if anyone could have expected the forces of Destruction to do something as drastic as this. It seemed like the determination of the forces of Destruction couldn’t be looked down on.
Or perhaps, it was better to call it their fanaticism.
After all, the thing that kept them going was their belief in the God of Destruction.
When it came to this kind of belief, it was impossible to shake it.
With this kind of belief, it was hard for them not to follow the orders that they had been given.
So it was like this that they were able to organize such a thorough retreat and it was because of this that we wouldn’t be able to find anything no matter how hard we searched.
Everyone agreed, but it seemed like they weren’t satisfied with the way that this ended.
I was the same, but there wasn’t anything that we could do about it.
So that was how I ended the meeting.
After this meeting ended, I was surprised to find that there was someone waiting for me.
“Big brother, I want to talk to you.”
It was the little girl that had been rescued by me, the one that was considered a genius by the others. Though with what she had demonstrated, I also had to admit that she was a genius.
But there was something special about her that I couldn’t get over.
It was what she had said about being able to see the destruction energy.
