Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure - Chapter 1978: Bugpocalypse (2)

Chapter 1978: Bugpocalypse (2)
These mercenaries weren’t the only ones that were in this situation.
There were many different groups of mercenaries that had been moving through this Death Valley at this time.
After all, there were many people that relied on the resources of this place to make a living.
So at any time, there would always be a group that would be here.
There were even some that left people here to watch over what they considered their property.
But at this moment, all of them were facing the same problem.
Even those that had been guarding their property were shocked to find that this property had suddenly disappeared from right under their noses.
It was as if the thieves had snuck it out while they were staring right at it.
It was only natural that they would try to find whoever it was that stole from them, but they weren’t able to find any traces of the thieves. The only things that they were able to find were the same traces of bugs passing by.
No one pursued that any further since they didn’t think that the bugs would be responsible.
But it was hard to think about that now that there were waves of bugs that were coming at them.
There were those that tried to fight back since their interests were all located in this place.
If they were to lose it because of these bugs, then it was no different from losing their lives.
The problem was that there were far more bugs than they thought there would be.
They thought that with the defenses that they set up, they would be able to take care of a few bugs. However, it wasn’t just a few bugs that came at them.
They were even prepared for a decent sized wave to come since they had prepared decent defenses, but it was just way too much for them to deal with in the end.
As far as the eye could see was just a wave of bugs.
Even if they wanted to fight, there really didn’t seem like there would be a way out.
Compared to having a chance to figure things out if they ran, fighting these bugs would no doubt be certain death. That was why there was no one that tried to fight in the end as they realized that it was pointless.
Even if they could destroy a few bugs, it was impossible for them to fight against all of the bugs that were in front of them.
Once they came to this realization, they didn’t waste any time in abandoning everything.
It seemed like in times like this, there was no sense of camaraderie between them.
The only thing that was on their mind was trying to find a way to survive.
After all, it was only by surviving that they would be able to figure out what they could do next. If they died, then it would all be over and there wouldn’t be anything for them to even think about.
If they survived this, at least they would be able to figure out what their next moves were.
So that was why everyone abandoned everything and only thought about escaping this place.
But even then, it was hard since it wasn’t just one direction that the bugs were coming in.
It seemed like the bugs were coming from every single direction with the way that they seemed to be surrounded.
Those mercenaries thought that this was some kind of apocalypse, but with bugs…
“Just where did all of these bugs come from?”
That was the only thought that was on their mind when they saw these waves of bugs.
But as they were backed into a corner, the mercenaries could see that there was something that they missed. Once they grasped this, they didn’t hesitate to run in that direction.
Even though it seemed like the bugs were coming from every direction, that wasn’t the case.
When they looked closely, they found that there was only one direction that had a wall that they couldn’t escape from. From the other directions, they could see that there were gaps in the walls that they could actually go through.
So as long as they worked together, they would actually be able to break through this wall of bugs in front of them.
Though there were a few of them that did hold bitter feelings towards those that had abandoned them previously.
Still, that didn’t matter right now as they knew that they had to work together to get out of this.
That was why they suddenly grouped together and charged in those directions.
It wasn’t just a single mercenary that did this, it was all of the mercenaries.
It was as if they had suddenly come together for a single cause with how unified they were in their movements.
What they didn’t notice was that someone had been watching them the entire time.
“I’m sorry about the sacrifices I’m asking you to make.”
“It’s fine, I can always spawn more of them.” Queenie said without any sign of remorse.
I couldn’t help looking at her with a strange smile, but I didn’t question it since she said that it was fine. This was most likely just how it was when it came to bugs and their society.
But it seemed that the plan was working well.
If the mercenaries had stopped to look, they would have found that the bugs weren’t actually after their lives. The bugs were just pushing them out of this place and even making sure that they would be able to leave.
This was all a part of the plan I had to chase them out after all.
It would be a problem if any of the mercenaries actually were injured because of this since it wasn’t as if they were bad people.
Or at least as far as I knew, they weren’t really bad people.
Perhaps they’ve done stuff that they shouldn’t have done to survive, but it wasn’t as if I knew that about them.
That’s why it wouldn’t have felt right if I had injured them while chasing them out.
