Chapter 1999: Scattered essence (3)
“You’re the one that wanted to see me.” The god’s messenger said in a tone that almost seemed like they were teasing me.
However, I didn’t say anything in response as I waited for an answer from them.
“Well, there is a reason, but don’t you want to hear this old bird’s story first?” The god’s messenger brought the topic back to what we were discussing previously.
After a moment of hesitation, I slowly gave a nod.
I did indeed want to know what had led this god’s messenger to make the decision that it did.
After all, it wasn’t an easy choice to follow through on a promise that would lead to one’s death.
I wanted to know why the god’s messenger was choosing this instead of just cutting back the blessing that it was giving to this land.
It wasn’t as if the god’s messenger had to completely cut them off, all it had to do was weaken its blessing to the point where it would be able to recover. It wasn’t as if the humans wouldn’t be able to adapt without the blessing of this phoenix.
Only it seemed that this god’s messenger was determined to see things through.
The god’s messenger seemed like it could see through the gaze that I was looking at it with, so it gave a sigh before saying, “It all started back then in the dark ages. Before anything came to be, there was a lot of chaos because society was still being developed.”
The story that the god’s messenger told was actually quite the interesting one.
If my life was a story, this certainly would have made a great prequel to all of this.
Thinking about it, it definitely would have been a good prequel game to the game that this world was based on.
In the beginning, there were all kinds of people that fought to create a place for themselves.
The one that founded this Solar Kingdom had by chance come across the land that this phoenix protected and was able to form that contract with the phoenix. Though it was better to say that he was able to form a contract with the god that the phoenix served previously.
It was because of this contract that the founder of the Solar Kingdom fought in the war between gods, the first one that they waged against the God of Destruction.
When that war was over, the founder and the phoenix were the only ones left.
The god that they served had been destroyed in the war against the God of Destruction.
So that was why the founder chose to take that land that the phoenix once protected and created a kingdom in its place. That was how the founder had created the Solar Kingdom.
At the same time, it was the reason why the phoenix was willing to sacrifice its life for this place.
After all, this was the final resting spot of their master.
When the story was over, I couldn’t help looking at the phoenix with a complicated look.
It was clear that the phoenix knew what it wanted to do with its life and at the same time, there was nothing that would convince it to change its mind. It was determined to die in the land that its master once gave it.
It was just that this didn’t mean that this would stop the forces of Destruction.
The forces of Destruction were still rampant in this world and there was a chance that they would destroy this place. Just staying here like this wouldn’t be able to help the phoenix defend this place.
“I know what you are thinking, but I’m too weak to move in the first place. Even if I wanted to help you, it would be impossible for me to help you with much since I’m already about to fade away.”
I didn’t deny this since it was the truth, but I still felt that there was something that the phoenix could have done…
“It’s not as if I’m about to die right away, so I’ll help you when the final fight comes. Well, if I’m even able to last that long. But before then, I will protect this place that my master gave me.”
Eventually, I gave a sigh and nodded in agreement.
This was what this phoenix wanted and it wasn’t as if I wanted to tear it away from this place.
Since this was what the phoenix wanted to do, the only thing that I could do was respect its wishes.
Though there was something that still confused me.
Even if this did explain why the phoenix was adamant on remaining in this place, it didn’t actually explain why the phoenix had called me here.
It wasn’t as if there was anything that the phoenix had for me and it wasn’t as if there was a god for me to talk to. If it really wanted to tell me everything, it could have easily found a different way to do this instead of calling me here.
“It seems like we’ve reached the crux of the matter.” The phoenix said all of a sudden, as if it was reading my mind.
I slightly narrowed my eyes to look at the phoenix, but I didn’t say anything as I waited for it to explain what it meant by this.
The phoenix seemed like it was hesitating to speak.
It seemed like whatever the phoenix wanted to talk about, it wouldn’t be that simple.
Though the way that the phoenix seemed to be hesitating made me a bit confused.
The phoenix had already made up its mind on what it wanted to do, so it was strange to see that it was still hesitating.
It made me wonder if the phoenix even had anything to hesitate over.
“I called you here because I wanted to leave one final thing behind. Before this, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with this legacy, but now I’ve made up my mind.”
