Chapter 2001: Not hiding it at all

As I was thinking about what to do with this egg that I had received, I was surprised to find that it was fading away.

It seemed to be turning into energy, as if it was about to disappear from existence.

Only it didn’t do that as it turned into a wisp of energy that flowed into my hand.

When I looked down, I could see a faint glow coming from the Mark of God that was there.

Closing my eyes and sending my senses in, I could tell that the egg had actually entered the Mark of God and was currently stored there. It would only take a single thought for me to call it out.

However, I didn’t do that as I left the egg inside of the Mark of God.

I didn’t understand how the egg was able to do this, but it wasn’t a good idea right now for me to call it out. After all, there were people outside that would want to take this egg for themselves.

It was best if they didn’t know about this at all.

With that matter settled, I opened the door and went out to find King Lune waiting for me.

The moment that I came out, he immediately came forward and asked, “Your majesty, how was the ancestor?”

The tone that he asked this in made it seem like he was worried about the phoenix, but really I could tell that this wasn’t the case. I knew from the hidden tone of his voice that there was something else that he cared about much more.

It was different when humans knew things, they would let their greed go unchecked and they would reach a point where they would hurt themselves.

But in this case, it was more that they were afraid since this was something that they had enjoyed for a long time. It was as if there was something that was being taken away from them all of a sudden.

Part of it was because they hadn’t done anything even though they had been given this blessing.

With the blessing that the phoenix gave them, there were plenty of things that they could have done to improve themselves.

But it was clear that they didn’t do any of that.

“Your ancestor is fine.” I said in a simple voice.

This made King Lune a bit surprised and he even narrowed his eyes as if he was trying to see if I was hiding anything. However, I just calmly looked right back at him when he did this.

In the end, King Lune had no choice but to reveal a smile and say, “That’s good then.”

I didn’t comment on this at all since I knew that it wouldn’t benefit me to comment.

It was just that I didn’t expect him to not hold back at all.

“Your majesty, is there anything that the ancestor asked you to pass down to us?”

The way that he looked at me was as if he expected me to hand over something.

The way that he looked at me was as if he thought that it was his right to take this thing.

Though it wasn’t as if I was going to give anything to him.

Since the egg had been entrusted to me, that meant that this King Lune shouldn’t even think about it.

“No, there’s nothing.” I said in a calm voice.

This time, it didn’t seem like King Lune was going to accept that answer that easily.

“Your majesty, I hope that you understand that this ancestor of ours has protected our Solar Kingdom for many generations. As such, the position that they hold in our heart is far beyond anything else.”

He didn’t finish what he was saying, but it was quite clear what he was implying with this.

If he were to say a few more things, then it would have gone from indirect to directly asking me for something.

However, it wasn’t as if he would be able to scare me like this.

After hearing what he said, I just calmly looked right into King Lune’s eyes and said, “I’ve already said that I haven’t received anything from your ancestor.”

A trace of surprise appeared in King Lune’s eyes as he seemed like he was caught off guard hearing this.

However, I didn’t bother saying anything else to him as I started walking forward to leave this place.

After a while, King Lune silently followed behind me. However, I could sense the way that he was looking at my back as he followed me.

This was all predicted by the phoenix.

Though it shouldn’t be strange that this was the case since the phoenix had spread its essence across the land in the first place. That essence was what made up the very foundation of the phoenix, so it could be said that it was closely tied to the phoenix.

It wasn’t strange if the phoenix could observe the people of this land through that.

With its essence spread all over the Solar Kingdom like that, it wouldn’t have been strange if it was able to completely survey every part of the Solar Kingdom with this.

That thought really made it seem like the Solar Kingdom was some kind of military state, but it wasn’t like that at all.

I tossed that thought out of my mind before turning my attention to King Lune.

I didn’t look back at him, but it was easy to sense his intentions from the way that he looked at me. It really seemed like there was something that he was planning to do, but he wasn’t ready to do it yet.

When we came back, it was clear by the way that their royal guards looked at me that this was the case as well.

It seemed like they had already discussed this matter ahead of time, so they had already come up with plans.

I shook my head at Klein and the royal guards to stop them.

It wasn’t the time to break all semblance of manners just yet.
